On this sad anniversary month Id like to share a memory.

Craig has just completed the script and libretto for his original musical. He was kind enough to let me read it. I thought it was lovely. It had all the qualities I loved...it was equally informed by American and theatre history, but was also full of Craigs own very modern sense of irony. It was sly and romantic, just like those drawing room comedies from the prohibition era we both loved. For the music Craig had collaborated with a shy but talented young composer for several years.

At the time I had a few connections in the recording industry and tried to interest them in the project. They either didnt have the vision, or ears, to understand they should invest in this musical.

I like to think that now, in the post Glee, post-new My Fair lady revival era, this unproduced musical would find a home. If Craigs niece, or his other heirs still have the play and score, they should try to circulate it again. Even a good community playhouse could see the potential of this musical and do a successful version of it.

Happy belated birthday, my dear, dear, friend.

Thank you for being a part of almost all of my memories during approximately my first 10 years in NYC.

Thank you for being my friend. I miss you.

Love always,

Sharon

Dear Craig:

Just heard the sad news, and wanted to say how much we who knew and respected you, will miss you. You are gone from us too soon my friend. I always looked forward to your emails and news of more creative efforts from you. May we meet again in the best of all circumstances one day in the next lifetime!
Love and farewell,

Carol

Craig,

I just found out that you have passed. I knew that something was amiss when I sent you a Merry Christmas/Happy New Year email and it was returned to me stating that the account was closed. I feared the worse, and I avoided looking into why that might be. I finally summoned my courage to google you, and now I know that you are gone.

You were my friend for over 30 years, yes, I just counted. I will miss you forever and cherish the memories of our many dinners around Manhattan. When I think of the King Crab restaurant, or Round The Clock, or jambalaya or THE VILLAGE VOICE (where it all began) or sitting at the fountain at Lincoln Center, I will continue to always think of you. I always knew that you were my biggest fan, and I hope that you knew that I was yours. As I sit here trying to write something worthy of your wit and charm, I can barely see through my tears.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family - your mom, sister, nieces, etc., the family that you wrote so lovingly about in your emails. You were a great writer and you always made me laugh.

Although we never saw each other after you left New York, we always stayed in touch. We never forgot each other. Without you to tell me what the year holds for us Aries, I guess I'm going to just have to wing it.

I miss you. I miss you. I miss you.

Love Always,

Sharon McFarland
