I just found out of the sudden loss of COL Alexander "Big Al" Davis and my heart goes out to the Davis Family. COL Davis was a gracious man that represented his family with dignity and walked among us with distinctive warmth. He was my Battalion Commander when I was a Drill Sergeant and later officiated my promotion to First Sergeant upon my request. He was a man that left behind a lot of people that admired him; this includes me. May God bless you always.

To the Davis Family: Words are inadequate vehicles to express the sense of grief and loss that I have this morning upon hearing of the untimely death of my friend "Big Al" Davis. we worked together at Fort Lee Fort Monroe and Fort Eustis and we were fellow Trojans... Al was a larger-than-life personality who could fill a room just by entering it... Our last conversation was in January, right before I retired, and I told him he would always be going places--always be achieving greatness. May God continue to hold you in the palm of His unchanging hand

It was the guys like Sonny who showed us how to be the men that we became. He always did things the right way and was an example without being a preacher. He truly was a leader and maker of men.
