James Manning Obituary

SMITHFIELD - James Earl Manning, Sr., 62, of Smithfield, VA, passed away July 23, 2014. After a 19 month battle with ALS, Jim claimed the victory and was rewarded as he met his loved ones in heaven. A native of Hampton, but has lived in Smithfield VA for the past 43 years, Jim was retired from the X43 Machinery Installation Nuclear for the Newport News Shipyard. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Joseph F. and Betty C. Manning; wife, Ruth; son, James E. Manning Jr.; 2 brothers, Joseph Howard and William Kenneth. Survivors include his wife, Belinda Manning; sisters, Sue M. Hower and Lucille Manning; mothers-in-law, Ruby Butler and Julianne Peck; 2 stepsons, Jesse and Matthew Gardner; 4 step grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces. A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 12:00 pm at Parr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3515 Robs Dr., Suffolk, VA with Rev. Donald Sawyer and Rev. Rick Alexander officiating. Interment will follow at St. Luke's Memorial Park, Smithfield, VA. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 6:00 - 7:30 pm at the funeral home. I am so sorry about James, i worked with him in the 1970's in X43 and we became long time shipyard friends. He was a great man with a great sense of humor. God bless you all and I will be praying for you and the family. I was out of town at a Pastor's conference so i am sorry i missed his funeral.
