Dallas, Texas
DALLAS, TEXAS - Ronald 'Ron' E. Springs was born on Nov. 4, 1956, in Williamsburg, Va., to Willie R. and Ethelyn C. Springs. He passed away on May 12, 2011, in Dallas, Texas.
Ron grew up in the Williamsburg area where he attended Lafayette High School. He became well-known in sports through playing football, basketball, baseball and running track. Until recently, Ron set and held the record for the most rushing yards in Lafayette High School's history. He played so well that Woody Hayes, Head Coach of Ohio State University, personally recruited him for the Buckeye's. He played for Ohio State until he was drafted to the Dallas Cowboys in 1979 and later played for Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1985-1986.
Ron's character, skills and support for other athletes motivated them to do their best in whatever sport they played. This held true in his hometown and at Ohio State and with America's team.
He was a natural leader and comedian and well-loved by all that came in contact with him. He also has served as Master of Ceremony at Bruce Hornsby Concerts.
Ron was preceded in death by his father, Willie R. Springs Sr.; and his sister, Sonia Springs Wade.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Adriane Springs; his mother, Ethelyn C. Springs; his children, Shawn A. Springs, Ayra Springs-Foster (Je'kel) and Ashley V. Springs; his brothers, Otis Horace Smith (Louise) and Willie Roscoe Springs Jr. (Brigette); and his sister, E. Lynnell Springs.
The Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 19, 2011, at Covenant Church, 2644 E. Trinity Mills, Carrollton, Texas.
Arrangements by Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 West Northwest Highway, Dallas, TX 75225, phone: (214) 363-5401.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011, in the Lafayette High School Auditorium, 4460 Longhill Road, Williamsburg, Va. For additional information, call (757) 229-3450 or (757) 345-2021. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

We lost our "second son" when Ron passed away. He brought joy whenever he was in our home and on the phone. God must have been lonesome and needed a good laugh when he took Ron to be with him. Adriane was considered a daughter to us and knows how much she and her family are loved by us. Ethelyn, you are still in our heart even though it has been several years since we have seen each other. His memory will never die. "Coach" and "Mama" Luhn, Coffeyville, Ks.

Ronnie was not only a teammate to the players, but to the staff and other members of the Cowboys organization. As one of the Athletic Trainers while Ron was with us I admired his toughness and ability to raise the morale of the team during some of the "down" times. I'll always remember him as a friend and consummate professional.

Ron may have been from the Williamsburg area his heart was as big as his adopted home state of Texas. I first met Ron through football camps with the Hampton Roads youth foundation and we became fast friends. I had him at the dealership to sign autographs on a few occassions and he was always the "life of the party". He made sure everyone was always taken care of. He was just one of those rare guys that knew his status as a Pro made him a role model and he made sure to always be the best he could be. Will miss you Ron... prayers to all of your family. I thank God I got to know you!

We will cherish our memories of his smile and laughter.

Ron was a kind and incredibly generous person who never lost sight of the values we grew up with in Williamsburg.
He made his family and
hometown very proud. I'm grateful to Everson for being a
faithful friend until the end. I'm
also thankful for the memories of good times shared,
especially at the Tabb family
parties(Crystal City Gateway
Marriott). We had good old
fashioned fun (much to Coach
Landry's dismay LOL) You will
always be remembered for
your wicked sense of humor,
being a good cook, love of
music, your impeccable taste
in clothes, and devotion to
family. Thank you for making it
possible for me to see my first

prayers are with Shawn,

well as your dear mom,

Being a huge footbal fan I heard about Ron and Everson's story on the national news a few years back and would think of Ron from time to time wondering how he was doing. I too am a kidney transplant recipient (2 times) and am almost the same age as Ron and know all too well about dialysis and transplantion. I am deeply saddened to hear about his passing.
