I'd heard Clarece for many years when I had occasion to go to a service of some kind at Lovers Lane Methodist. One of my closer friends is Paul Shipp, whose mom was Irene, father Bill, and sister is Carol Hengels. My church has always been Highland Park Presbyterian, so I was pleased that Clarence was also able to play for us in her retirement.

Retirement from LLUMC wasn't really a true retirement for Clarence, as was obvious from reading her obituary and seeing how many places she was still playing. As a long time choir member I appreciated her ability to accompany in rehearsals as well as her considerable ability to play those magnificent instruments. She filled in some necessary gaps for us we've had over the last 2 or 3 years and was much appreciated by us at HPPC.

I"m sorry I wasn't able to attend the memorial due to previous commitments. And I'm sorry for your loss as well as ours.

I am so sorry! She was wonderful playing on the piano/organ! I loved hearing her perfect playing, as I was signing w/ Sign Choir! It was sad to see her go, at her retirement party, at LLUMC

I sang in the choir at Lovers Lane Methodist Church when Clarece played the organ. She was a perfectionist genius. She told me she loved the perfectionism of Bach. One of her most amazing performances was one she did using only the foot pedals which was totally unreal to experience. Clarece, though totally gifted with brilliant genius, always was down to earth, humble, and inspiring to those of us who were musicans ourselves... Her last performance at Lovers Lane was so cherished by those of us who attended.... she was an example of true Christian Service on every level. She will be missed and our memories full of her treasures of music she left to us. She truly walked in the humility of God's grace and love.
Love her,
Janet Butler
