So sorry to learn, belatedly, of Mike's passing. He was one of my favorite people and best mentors at UPI in Dallas in the '70s and '80s. I think of him each year when we go to the Formula One race in Austin -- Mike had me do feature interviews for the Dallas Grand Prix F1 race in 1984. That launched my addiction to the glories of F1. He was a special man, one of the very best writers it's ever been my pleasure to know, and a genuinely nice guy.

My condolences to all of Mike's family. Mike was a great Unipresser and a true gentleman. To me, he was the Iron Man. During the Olympics, for example, he would calmly churn out countless well-written stories. Each would be imbued with a word, a phrase, a sentence that made it Mike's. What a talent. He is missed.

Sincere condolences on Mike's passing.

He was an outstanding journalist, great man and good friend.

He will be missed.

May God Bless Mike and the Family.

Mike was one of my mentors in sports writing and I was always happy to be paired with him at The Wide Open -- Colonial's media golf day. And I was thrilled when Mike asked me to be his substitute whenever he wanted a night off from covering the Texas Rangers and sometimes the Mavericks. I'll never forget him saying, "Call me if Nolan Ryan has a no-hitter going into the seventh inning and I'll start driving to Arlington." That's how dedicated Mike was to his profession. He was a great role model for all. RIP Mike.
