I am sobbing at the loss of this unbelievably talent woman. While at SMU, I was honored by the opportunity for daily classes with her; she changed my life through her deep, unmatched, knowledge of dance technique. She also agreed to work with me one-on-one in an Independent study project in ballet pedagogy; and afterward supported the expansion of my Graduate Assistant ship to allow me (a jazz and tap guy) to teach Ballet II for non-majors. Her advice, support, and sheer brilliance changed me dramatically. I will remember her always--for beauty she generously shared with so many.

Karen taught for the two years I studied at Alice Willey's studio in Dallas, 1969 to 1972 (the last days of Dallas Ballet Theater). She made ballet fun, and we adored her. Karen's ballet classes and J. David Kirby's jazz classes made Miss Alice's studio a place we wanted to be, and they're the reason I had a career in dance.

I'm so sorry to hear of her passing, and I send sincere condolences to her family. Another piece of my youth has dimmed, but Karen will never truly be gone as long as she is remembered by everyone who knew and loved her.
