Eugene Smith Obituary

SMITH Jr., Dr. Eugene S. Born May 26, 1934, passed from this life to his eternal salvation on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at age 82. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Henriette, son Eugene III (wife Pam), daughter Carol Paulson (husband Ferren), and son Frank (wife Heidi), 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren and many other loving family members and friends. After graduating from Pepperdine College, Eugene served his country by joining the Army, and it was while stationed in Germany that he met and married Henriette. Upon their arrival to the U.S., he joined the family business, Gospel Teachers Publications. He served his community as a Board Member of the DISD from 1971-77 and was an active member of many civic organizations. As owner of the family business, he was able to support his true passion in life, which was spreading the Gospel. He traveled the world doing mission work and supporting others in their efforts to teach the Gospel to the world. He and Henriette continued to travel overseas to support congregations until last year. He is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Sr. and Kathryn Smith, brother Tully Wilkins and sister Mae Trevathan. Burial will take place at the Dallas National Cemetery. He will forever be remembered, loved and missed by many.

Not sure what to say?

I am just now learning of Gene's passing. We had various ties -- as fellow-Christians, fellow-Pepperdiners, and fellow Dallas County residents. But it went beyond that. He was the printer of my Christian journal, The Restorer, in its earlier years. Later on, we interacted on the mission field in Ukraine, where we both went to spread the gospel of Christ. He was determined to make a lasting impact on the world for the benefit of eternity, and he will not be forgotten by those of us who knew him.

Two years without Eugene are very hard. We miss him, his faith in our Lord, his teachings and his love for our Lord. Until we will meet again in heaven, we will remember him.

This is a time to remember. Eugene was one of the people who made us stronger Christians by showing his strong position in holding to the truth, sacrificing some benefits and pleasant things in order to stay faithful. We love Eugene very much and we don't say goodbye as we will meet in better place, he will just need to wait for us there a little.

On behalf of Effah Family, Brescia, Church of Christ, (now in UK), I would like to express our condolences to the wife of our late brother Smith Jn, Sister Henriette, the sons, daughter, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, the WVBS, The Church, friends and the entire members of his hometown, for the loss of our lovely Brother, Eugene Smith Jr.
May the Lord Comfort, Strengthen and Encourage you in these difficult times.

I have known him since 2002 when he starter the WVBS course with Brethren in Europe. I was one of his students in Brescia Congratulation, Italy. Through his immense efforts together with his wife and some times brother James and other sisters as well, l am able to assist many Churches with teachings and sermons. He has really accomplished his duty as a Christian and am proud of him in the Lord. I am making much efforts to learn much from the unpresidented legacy he has left behind. It is a great challenge for many Christians to sacrifice our lives for the course of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Mr, Eugene Smith Jr. I trust, the angels are ready to receive you onto the bossom of Father Abraham. May your soul rest in peace.

It is my prayer that the Lord helps to bring the funeral to a successful end. God bless everyone.

Eugene Smith jr. was my bible teacher when he came to Romania with his wife Henriette and many other people, for preaching the bible. Then I met not only Eugene but also God. He was a very good teacher for me so that after one month I became a christian. Since then we kept in touch and always when he came to Bucharest we learned more and more about God. He changed my life since we met and he will remain in my heart as the messenger of God. I keep on praying for Henriette to be stong in these difficult moments and may our Lord keep her in His love and care. Doina Buiuc, Bucharst Romania

Eugene Smith was my first teacher of the Bible, back in 90'Th. He taught me about the existence of Go and because of him I became a Christian. I remember Eugene very strict in respect of the Bible, he had so strong believes. Eugene and Henriette became very good friends and we keep in touch for long time. They came in Romania many times, and every time they wanted to meet their students.
Eugene will be in my heart forever, he changed my life and I am very thankful for that.
I pray for Henriette, the sweetest lady I ever met. May God give her peace and strength. Mihaela Galkin, Bucharest, Romania

I have many memories of Gene (Mr. Smith, as I used to call him) since my childhood. We were neighbors two different times and a long-time family friend of ours. I will remember his hearty laugh and infectious smile. His family and ours have gone on many trips together over the years, have eaten in each other's homes, gone to school with his kids, and played many rounds of ping pong together using "Ellis County rules" (as he and my dad used to call it)! I appreciate his 50 plus year friendship, especially with my mom & dad and know he will be sorely missed. I pray the Lord will comfort his kids, grandkids, and his wife, Henriette, in the days and months ahead as his presence will surely be missed in their lives. Hugs to you all, Jan Ott
