BELKNAP, Rebecca Truax Rebecca Sue Truax Belknap born September 22, 1928 in Richmond, Arkansas and passed away April 4, 2016 in Richardson, Texas. Preceded in death by parents, Bruce and Winnie G. Truax; husband, Herbert John Belknap. Survived by sons, Bruce David Belknap, Philip Duane Belknap (Suzanne); daughter, Bonnie Beth Belknap; grandson, Austin Philip Belknap; sisters, Ellen T. Buck, Barbara T. Slover; nieces, Gwynn B. Gontarek, Shawn G. Weaver, JoAnne Gregorie. Rebecca received her undergraduate chemistry degree from Memphis State University (now University of Memphis). Her graduate degree in chemistry was from Ole Miss (University of Mississippi), where she met her future husband, Herb Belknap. She was very active in the First United Methodist Church women's circle and the welcoming committee for new members by preparing loaves of bread for each member. She was an active member of the North Texas Reelers Square dance club and as an expert seamstress she made many of the square dance outfits. She was an avid tap dancer all her life and was still dancing at age 86. For many years she made the dancers' costumes for the recital performances. Her Chemistry career included being a research chemist in leukemia at Wadley Institute in Dallas and was the Director of Quality Control for Nuclear Medical Laboratories (NML). Family will receive friends on Sunday, April 10, 2016 from 2:00PM - 4:00PM at Restland Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held on Monday, April 11, 2016 at 11:00AM at First United Methodist Church in Richardson, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Caring Ministries - First United Methodist Church of Richardson or a charity of your choice.
