March 21, 2012,
Mayor Vandergriff was a great man and did so much for so many. I lived in Arlington from 1954 until 1987 and watched him guide the city from a small town into one of the greatest cities in America. He dedicated his life to everyone who lived there. His passing was the end of an era yet is memory will last for a long time.

I first moved to Arlington, Texas in 1981, I had a problem with the Veterand Administration over my VA Disability and contacted my Congressman, Tom Vandergriff, and I talked with him personaly and met this caring dedicated Man, I will never forget, when he was County Judge in later years when I was downtown Fort Worth I would stop in and visit, I was always met with welcome. Through Tom Vandergriff I gained a High Standard that I hold all elected officials to. I have yet met but a handful that could compare to the Standards that Tom had bestowed on me through his actions and caring and his friendship when we talked. I will truly miss you Tom Vandergriff..

"I worked for the City of Arlington in the late 60s early 70s. He had a way of inspiring city emp. to serve the city in the most positive ways. I believe he gave me an attitude to succede in in my carrer. I sometimes wonder what I may have been if I had stayed with him and the city. I truly believe the "Metroplex" would not be as great as it is if not for Tom Vandergriff.

Memories of Mr. Vandergriff start in the late 1960's when I worked at Vandergriff Chevrolet on Division. Those were the days he wore his fedora to work. Very nice man to work for and look up to as a fine example. He would help anyone every chance he got. A wonderful man, the kind you don't find a lot anymore. Our prayers are with your family.

My deepest Sympathy to the family, Judge Vandergriff was a very special person in our family here at Tarrant County Courthouse. He will never be forgotten and will always be remembered in my heart. I got the enjoyment of sometimes walking with him to our parking garage and he showed respect for all who met us along the way. I could go on about all the kind things he did for the employees here at Tarrant County, but it would end up being a book... God Bless you all and Thanks for the nice meomries Judge Vandergriff

Dear Vandergriff Ohana,
Mahalo for sharing Tom with the public. What an impact he made on the community, state, and nation. When I moved to Arlinton in 1982 from Hawaii, the name I heard talked about most was Tom Vandergriff! My deepest condolences to you, as well as us. God's peace be with you. Aloha,
