McMahon, David J. 74, of Edina, MN passed away on March 27, 2011 after a lengthy illness. Preceded in death by his parents, John F. and Helen McMahon; brother, Gary; and grandson, Thomas. Survived by his loving wife, Colleen Anne (Phelan) and their seven children, Cammy Baer (Tim), David Jr., Kevin (Kate), Danny (Colleen), Mary Kate McFadden (Mike), Margo Fochler (Steve), and Julie McMahon. Also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Jack, Michael, Matt, Danny, Meg, Joseph, Jane, Maura, Emmett, Maeve, Danny, Fiona, Seamus, Nuala, Conor, Patrick, Molly, Sean, Brendan, Danny, Libby, Jane, Tanner, Lily and Aidan. Also survived by brother Steve (Trish), and sisters Carol Young (George) and Patty Cumming (Charles), and sister-in-law Zita McMahon. Born in Brooklyn, New York on Sept. 17, 1936, Dave was raised on Long Island as a long-suffering Brooklyn Dodgers fan, and developed a life-long love of music, his Irish heritage, and the beach. Fulfilled a childhood dream by attending and graduating from the University of Notre Dame, and remained a devoted fan of the Fighting Irish. Met Colleen Phelan of Beaumont, Texas in the spring of 1958 and thus began one of the great love affairs of all time. Dave and Colleen celebrated their 51st Wedding Anniversary this past January. In 1999, Dave retired after 39 years at General Mills, where he served as Director of Trade Relations representing the company in its dealings with key customers and industry groups. Although Dave accomplished much during the course of his career, his proudest and happiest moments were those spent in the company of his wife, children, and grandchildren. His deep faith in God, personal integrity, loyalty, commitment to family, and sense of humor were all qualities that defined his life and were what made him the best spouse, father, grandfather, or friend a person could ever have. We love you, Poppy. The family wishes to thank Dr. Mark Menge, and all of the physicians, nurses, aides and staff of Frauenshuh Cancer Center. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 1311 Mamaroneck Ave, White Plains, New York 10605 or www.lls.org/donate. Interment Lakewood Cemetery. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM Friday, April 1 with visitation one hour prior to the Mass at the Church of Our Lady of Grace, 5071 Eden Ave., Edina. I will never forget David's positive attitude, smiling face, wonderful & helpful counsel at GMI, and fun shenanigans during N.D. breaks in N.Y.C . And, Marcia and I are thankful for the times that we were able to get our young families together in Mpls. I regret that we did not attend David's celebration of life, but think and pray for him everyday . God bless and love to all the McMahon's, Jerry (Butch) and Marcia Hayes

Poppy,
We (the McMahon grandchildren) lost one of our greatest fans in your passing. The efforts you made to be a part of your grandkid's most important life moments was remarkable. I know that you would have been at every event of every grandkid if you could have been in 10+ places at once. Now you can. Whether it's a sport event, a school event, important life event, a moment of triumph, or a moment of needed encouragement, I have no doubt you'll be smiling down on each and every...

Dear Poppy,
You are by far the most caring, generous, and loving person I have ever come in contact with. I miss you very much, and you will hold a special place in my heart eternally.
Love,
Tanner

I remember at Aunt Margo's wedding when it was getting windy and cold, Nuala and I ran to Darlin' and Poppy and they cozzied-us-up! I loved that. I miss you Poppy.

Proud Poppy!
