News Death Notice
COOPER, John Lee "Jack" age 91 of Dayton, born July 25, 1922 in Arizona, Louisiana, departed this life Sunday, February 16, 2014. Jack was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Carlton Williams. He retired from Delphi General Motors after 36 years of service. Jack, along with his wife, was an avid bowler for over 30 years, receiving many awards and trophies. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines. He trained at Camp Lejune's Montfort Point, NC and attained the rank of private first class. Preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Emma Cooper; children, Patricia Curry and Derrick Cooper. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Gladys Cooper; daughters, Jean Mims and Marie Johnson; stepsons, Christopher (Marcia) Fields, Ricky (Margaret) Fields; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Bell and Elizabeth McCuller; special granddaughter, Nikon (Chris) Hairston; special friends, Mr. and Mrs. Carl and Ann Young; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be held 1:30 pm Friday, February 21, 2014 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 502 Pontiac Street. Rev. Leon Wilkinson officiating. Interment Dayton National Cemetery. Visitation from 10 am to 1:30 pm. Family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 pm. Arrangements entrusted to the House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc., 2107 N.
