TO THE YANEY FAMILY. I DIDN'T KNOW OFFICER YANEY,BUT THE WAY PEOPLE SPOKE OF HIM REALLY TOUCHED MY HEART IN A WAY HE OBVIOUSLY TOUCHED THEIRS. YOUR LOSS WAS HEAVEN'S GAIN. GOD BLESS.
My deepest sympathy to the entire Yaney family,I have known the Yaneys as long as I can remember. We grew up in the plat together playing tag, kickball, hide and seek, or down at the creek.. David was always telling us about Custer. Dave was always meant to be in law enforcement. When we were kids growing up in the plat he was always playing army, cowboys, or cops and robbers, he was always the good guy.
Yaney was such a great man and loved by all that knew him. I was so saddened to hear about his passing. May God with you all during this time, to help comfort you and help you gain understanding. I truly know what you all are going through. God Bless
May God's loving embrace , comfort your hearts.

THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS TO THE FAMILY HE WILL BE GREATLY MISSED..GOD BLESS..
I am a dispatcher at Englewood PD and although I did not know nor had never met Officer Yaney I definitely knew OF him and already miss hearing his indistinguishable voice on County North. Trotwood will never be the same. My heart goes out to all his family and friends who will forever miss him with hopes that the wonderful memories will someday fill the void left behind.
I am sorry for your loss. My prayers are with your family. God Bless.
One of most amazing and caring policeman I've ever met!
I knew Dave since we were in elementary school. I remember us walking into the last standing building at TM, recently torn down, many mornings while in junior high school together. He was always witty and a jokester but I also knew his soft side as he would always insist on carrying my books for me. It didn't surprise me at all when he became a police officer and I knew he'd be a good one. He liked everyone and never judged people; he was a fair cop. He was a genuine person and a very dedicated police officer and always willing to listen or lend a hand. I was proud to know him. I hope all of these heartfelt words/memories from others will comfort his family during this difficult time. Rest in peace my dear old friend, I am certain that you are with God now & walking the streets of gold.
To the Yaney family,
Brad and I are so very sorry for your loss. These are times when the "thin blue line" is not so thin, and the entire police community mourns with you. You are all in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God" - Matthew 5:9.
Officer Yaney lived next door to my late grandmother. She was very elderly, and he would help my mother by keeping an eye on her house, and always staying in communication with her. Mom has always been thankful and grateful for his help. I never had the pleasure of meeting Officer Yaney, but I'm eternally thankful to him for his assistance to my mom.
David,Thank-You for the countless times you took my mom to Miami Valley Hospital for her Radiation treatments in the back of ambulance 303. You made those treatments so such tolerable for her with your witt, humor and hilarious jokes. You always made her smile. For everybody you have touched while on this earth , we will miss you.
Watch out for those Pit Bulls up there.
Dave was a special man and an admirable police officer. The community and his fellow officers loved him. We are thankful to be part of that family. May this outpouring of love from the community Dave loved, ease the sorrow all of us feel.
Our thoughts & prayers go out to all of his family & friends. Mr. David was our hero & may he rest in peace.

I grew up in Drexel. The police wasn't very friendly with the younger people. Yaney changed that. If you treated him with respect he did the same. And everybody I knew loved him. Dave didn't judge us because of where you was from. He touched a lot of people, young and old. With all the people he dealt with day in and day out he always remembered your name, no matter how long it was since he last ran into you. If they trained all of the police to treat people the way Dave did. He was 1 of a kind. Thanks Yaney for all that you have done for all of us. Prayers for you and your family.
I came to know Officer Yaney over the past 4 yrs. He made a major impact in mine and my families life. He was such a wonderful and caring man. My heart is truly saddened by his passing.

Our deepest sympathy to your family and friends during this difficult time. The Parker's and Powers' families.
Our sincerest condolences to the Yaney family. What a blessing it was to have known you and your family. Your courage and strength will be fondly remembered when thinking of you. In grief and sorrow we turn to the Lord to calm our fears and lift our burdens. When worries abound and the future looks bleak, Then our faith must not falter and never grow weak. For whenever we're troubled and things become grim, we turn to the Lord and ask help of Him. He wipes away the troubles and burdens we bear; His compassion and mercy keep us safe in His care. When our wellspring of faith remains steadfast and true, He loves and protects us in all that we do. (by Dolores Karides). Rest assured the path of faith will one day lead us home. Godspeed dear friend to your heavenly home in the sky. And, thank you for devotedly serving our hometown. Your roots are planted deep and we feel content that your path will bloom like wildflowers along a country road.

My thoughts & prayers are with the family, friends, many law enforcement officers and emergency responders that knew and cared for Officer Dave Yaney. Dave became a friend in the field over 25 years ago when I first started my career as an Animal Care & Control Officer with Montgomery County Animal Resource Center. We met during his years with Madison Twp and later Trotwood. He always had my back when I called for his assistance. I think he could recall every citizens first name in his beat or so it seemed at times. He was a great guy! I loved his sense of humor! He will be missed!
To the Yaney and Wells families - We were blessed to share this Earth with such a loving, funny man. He was a regular, in the mornings, for coffee and a paper at Go-Fers, until our family sold the business. I was always amused at the conversations he and my dad (who always called him "Sarge") would have. He was a treasure. Our prayers to you and everyone who knew him. So very sorry for your loss.
Thoughts and prayers are with the family yaney you helped me and my family more then you ever knew!! God bless you r.i.p
Dear Yaney Family,
Dave was a wonderful example of what a law enforcement officer should be. I wish everyone would have had the chance to meet him. He will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him. I will never forget him and his famous toothpick and ball cap!! I am so sorry for your loss. Just remember, even though he is not physically here, he is still here in spirit and walks beside us still protecting us everyday until we are reunited with him!! God Bless you all during this time of sorrow. RIP David Yaney! Gone but NEVER forgotten

Dave and I met at Trotwood Rescue in the early '70's. I'm honored to call him friend and cherish the many, many memories we accumilated along the way. Dave was a free spirit sporting the " infamous" cat hat and mirrored shades. I'm so proud of the respected , honorable man we know today. Although our paths rarely crossed lately, the bond of yesteryear remained solid. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Beth and your children. You truly are the " light" in Daves life. Rest in peace old friend! Chuck & Minnie Lake, New Lebanon.
I am so sorry that you have lost your dad. My thoughts & prayers are with you and your family. God will carry you through this. Please hold on to all the good, heart-warming and comforting memories. Know that he is in a much better place now, yet still with you always.

Such a Wonderful Person a neighbor for years! God Bless you, and God Bless your entire Family!
R.i.p Officer Yaney. We all love && miss you. You was a hero & thats what ill rememeber you for. I miss you.
Beth I sent an entry earlier, but I forgot to mention this. My morning ride to work will be just a little lonelier. On many mornings Dave and I would ride down Main Street side by side. He would often rev his engine or make a funny face at me as we drove down Main street. We would wave by as he would turn into Speedway and I would continue down the street to go to work. I will miss the morning funnies with him. My prayers are with you and the children.
What to say about Dave, He was a great neighbor. Would do anything for you. He would shovel the snow off my driveway many times. When I went to pay him all he would say is for me to make him a sweet potatoe pie, So of course I made one for him, on many occassions. . As he would turn the corner going home he would always say, "Hey Hottie what ya doing." would always incourage Linda Huffman and me when we walked. He will be missed. Beth and children thank you for sharing him with me. The neighborhood will be just a little more silent without Dave. He truely gave of himself.
All our prayers go to the Yaney Family.
The World will Not be the Same anymore.
Dave, you were loved and admired. Going on Patrol with you, staying with you and your wonderful Family and making it possible to truly experience live in the States are just a few things that you gladly Shared with me.
Thank you for being such a Good Friend!
Love to you, bro'! Rest in Peace!
Capt. Marc Buervenich, German Army SOF Res.
I worked at the Mont.Co. Animal Resource Center for 30 yrs and of all the Police Officers I assisted or assisited me on a call I was always glad to see old David on the scene. Any guy that would go into a house full of Timber wolfs with you with just a control pole you had to like and respect. We alway kidded about retiring and how gray we were getting and sharing a joke. From the Madison Twp days till now he will alway be my favorite. He was one good Cop and a American Hero. My heart broke to hear of his death. My prayers go out to his Family and the other Trotwood Officers and crews. We lost a good one. RIP my friend......
I met "Yaney" back in the late 70s when I first appeared at Trotwood Rescue with my shiny new paramedic credentials, ready to "save the wrold".
Over the years I was a member of Rescue Yaney taught me many important things.
1. Always treat the sick, injured, and elderly with respect and compassion.
2. The best way to use the many tools in the Rescue truck was to hand them to Yaney and get out of the way.
3. How to handle the idiots, drunks and druggies a the KISS concerts at Hara Arena.
And most important...
4. Don't even think about changing the channel on the TV during a John Wayne movie.
Dave, you were the John Wayne of Trotwood, tough, ornery, dependable and dedicated. The Duke would have been proud of the man you were, the life you lived and the lives you touched and influenced, including mine. You will always be remembered.
Thoughts and prayers for the family at this time of sorrow
This candle is lit in your memory of ALL of the lives you have touch and made a difference.
Dave Yaney, you are going to be truly missed. I have never met a more sweeter, kind and caring person that Dave was. We are going to miss your big smile and jokes & stories at the dental office. You always brought a smile to our faces when you came in the office. Our condolences goes out Beth, Sara, to rest of his family.
Dr. Shepler's & Staff.
I didn't know him a whole lot but he is my uncle and may he rest in peace. And you deserve to be jovial even at rest. You will see me at your viewing and funeral and may your soul live on and on fovever and ever lastly I want to tell you that your family and friends will always love and cherish you and the memories with you. Nobody shall disturb you in rest because you greatly deserve a happy and great afterlife. I took all this time to tell you and everyone that we all love you very much and you deserve to rest in peace because you were a great man in life. I wish myself and others could have known you better but I just want to retell you to just rest in peace.
Our prayers and condolences to the Yaney family. Dave was a very good friend and a good family man. His loyalty and service to the public was beyond exemplary. We deeply feel for his family, and love them like our own.
My sympathy to the entire Yaney family, I have known the Yaney family all my life as neighbors then also had the pleasure of being one of Dave's co-workers. There are so many posts from so many people, Dave truely had compassion for his fellow man and treated people with respect and dignity, my idea of a great officer and person. I know how much he loved and respected his family and never had a bad word to say about anyone and always could think of something to make you laugh. Dave changed the lives of people for the better and for some of them I'm sure was a bright light on a bad day. I dont think anyone will ever know how many lives he did touch, i hope that his legacy lives on with fellow officers everywhere and everyone takes just that one extra step as Dave did to help people out and show them he cared, a class act for sure. Kathy

I will pray for him an his family he was a good man
When I was young and deciding who I wanted to be, I showed up at Trotwood Rescue and Dave Yaney said "You don't wanna be a cop, you wanna be an EMT." Years later when I was working with Captain Sampson and riding with different officers, every time I saw Dave (and each time we crossed paths for many years after) he would always tease me and say "See, you should have been a Cop." I'll miss occasionally running into him and going through that routine as we always have. There is only one Trotwood, and it was blessed to have the one and only Dave Yaney protecting it. A great hero has been lost to us.
The law enforcement community lost a good man, and I wish his family the best during this difficult time.

Its so wonderful to see all these people he touched, saying these nice things. It's a great way to put a smile on the faces of our family.
Dave was a Living Legend in the law enforcement community. He was a rarity; an embodiment of what police officers should be. He was a man among men. I've known Dave since I was sixteen and today when I heard of his tragic passing, I thought about the very first time I met him. I then thought of the talks that we have had since. Then I thought of the only time that I had the privilege of working with Dave as an Officer. At that point, I shed a tear for my fallen brother and friend. Dave you will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the Yaney family. May he rest in peace and watch over you all as you continue on in your lives. To Sarah and Jared, may he watch over you both as you continue to serve the communities. RIP Sgt Yaney
Words cannot express the sorrow I feel for the Yaney family. I first met Sargent Yaney during the blizzard of 1978 when he was a EMT he took my 3 month old daughter to the hospital. I knew David for nearly four decades and always considered him a man of honesty and integrity. He would often stop by my family's home, while on duty, to have a brief cup of coffee and chat about things. A splendid example of what law enforcement is, and should be.
In loving memory of our family friend, David Yaney. The Lake family has so many wonderful and hilarious stories dating back to the good old days of Trotwood Rescue and the Madison Township Police. Rest in peace, Dave; and give our regards to John Wayne and General Custer! We loved you like a brother!

Rest in peace my friend and fellow officer. You will be greatly missed by all of us. I know that everyone at the Humane Society will miss you as well. Thanks for all you have done. Prayers go out to all family and friends
I was a Paramedic with Trotwood Rescue then Trotwood Fire after the two merged. Yaney was my favorite officer to work with. He was kind, gentle, and respectful of everyone. He had such a huge impact on Trotwood and Drexel; I think he knew just about every resident of Drexel. Even criminals respected him, you couldn't help too. Yaney played a huge role in my career teaching me how to stay safe in rough neighborhoods. Rest in peace, Dave.
Dave, you made a difference in our lives by being there when we needed a police officer and a friend! Thank you. You will be missed!
A man of HONOR and INTEGRITY. A shepard of his community, and a leader of men.
I remember Officer Yaney when I lived in Trotwood. He lived up the street from me and I knew his daughter, Sarah. He was a great man and he will be missed. My thoughts are with his family and friends. Thank you for all that you did Dave. Rest In Peace.
