As a young girl studying ballet, I saw your mother dance "The Firebird." Her grace and elegance enthralled and inspired me. With my special treasures I kept a small card with her picture on it. What a wonderful role model she was and continues to be for the Native community.

Dear Elise,
My thoughts are with you, your family, and Maria's faithful care givers as she leaves this world and her spirit now dances free in the clouds, prefect and free of pain.Maria was a treasured member of our Sunrise family and I share with others many memories of her early years with us.I feel so honored to have known her.
May happy memories remain in you heart and you be at peace.

Dear Elise,
I was so saddened to hear of your Mother's passing. I have been a fan and admired her since I was in the third grade and read about her in the Weekly Reader in 1953.
I remember going home from school clutching the Weekly Reader and cutting out the article with her picture and pasting it on a sheet of paper and placing it in a folder.
My children grew up hearing about Maria Tallchief and the Weekly
Reader and now you know it. Somehow I think your Mother knows it also.
RIP Maria Tallchief, RIP.
