DOANE, Richard E. age 76 of Dayton, unexpectedly passed away early Friday, May 9, 2014 at Good Samaritan Hospital. Richard was born May 3, 1938 in Lebanon, Ohio, son of Russell and Irene (Peters) Doane. Richard was proudly self employed at Doanes Alignment Service where he perfected his craft. Preceded in death by his wife Wanette G. Doane in 2005. He is survived by 1 daughter Marilyn and husband, Shane Newton of Greenville; 1 son, Bryan Furrey of Kettering; 1 brother, James Doane and wife Linda, 1 sister, Kathy Doane; 5 grand children, Chris, Nathan (Julie), Dawna, Kati & Laura; 3 great grand children, Kyle, Trevor and Levi; and a host of other relatives, friends and network of racing community that has supported and shared in Richards lifelong passion. It was Richard's wish that he be cremated and a gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-7pm on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Morton Whetstone Funeral Home , 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. If so desired, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association in Richard's memory.

Just received a call from Richard's son of his passing. Richard and Wanette were good friends of ours. We raced with Richard for quite a few years. Our sincerest sympathy goes out to the family.

Richard was one of the rare gentlemen in Drag Racing from the old school, who put the CLASS in Class Racing. I will miss his friendly smile and always kind words. RIP, and Godspeed...

It was with heavy hearts that we read about about the passing of Mr. Doane. He was such a truly nice gentleman. We will miss visiting with him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
