Tom, Tammy, Emily, and Hannah:

Words cannot express the sympathy and sorrow I feel for your loss. Although I didn't know Sarah personally, I'm sure she shared some of the same traits that I appreciate from Emily and Hannah: a wonderful, spirited, gifted, humble human-being whose mere presence brought happiness to others. Please accept my condolences on behalf of my personal family, our team, and the entire Metro FC organization.

Dear Tom, Tammy, Emily and Hannah:

You have our deepest sympathy and our hearts break for you. You will be in our every prayer. May your faith sustain you in the days and weeks ahead.

Despite our own sadness, I could not help but think of Sarah’s brilliant smile and little-girl giggle when she was tickled about something. I remember a soccer tournament years ago when our Sarah and yours played for the Tipp City Fireballs. I think we were in Lima for the weekend and they were about 12 or 13 at the time. With our conversion van packed with girls after the morning match, we set off for Ponderosa for lunch, Sarah included.

After everyone had argued about who sat next to whom, and the fake pouting was over, the giggling started. The laughter soon attracted a waitress, who brought coloring pages and crayons. The girls had the greatest time with a coloring contest.

Even though they were all well-behaved kids, it wasn’t long before the onion rings on the buffet became ear and nose rings. Soon we were all laughing till we cried.

I don’t remember if we even won a game that weekend, but I remember the fun and love they had together. Sarah will be remembered forever for her athletic feats and the part she played in delightful memories like the one above.

Mr. and Mrs. Merritt,
I can not begin to tell you how sorry I am for the loss of your beautiful daughter. She has been in inspiration and role model for us all here at Tippecanoe High School. I couldn't believe my ears when I heard the news yesterday. You have my deepest condolences and my heart aches for you.
Emily and Hannah,
I try to think of the words to say to you right now and they all escape me other than I love you girls! Sarah has been a great role model for you two and her love and personality truly shines through in you girls. You know if you ever need anything, I'm just a few houses down or a phone call away. My heart goes out to you and your family. Keep her memory alive within you!
