Very sorry to hear that Dr. Kikuchi passed away. He was my adviser at Delaware from 82-86 and inspired me to succeed, not matter what the circumstances. I am forever thankful for the encouragement he provided.
Laura and family,

Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. Remembering you and your loved one today and always.
Professor Kikuchi was dear to my heart in so many ways. He had such a gentle spirit. My prayers are with Laura and family. Rest in peace, my Buddy.
Ms Laura receives on behalf of my family and on my own behalf our heartfelt words of sympathy, which I extend to all their families for the death of her husband Dr Shinya Kikuchi, who was a good friend and professor of professors: God rest his holy glory.
I am shocked. Always dreamt of doing my PhD with him. Now when the application time has come, this news was like a bolt from the blue. May god give his family the strength to bear this irreparable loss.
I owe so much to my greatest teacher, who guided me through graduate studies at UD (2003) and PhD at Virginia Tech (2007). I was always hoping for more time to pay him back for all his support, kindness and friendship. I was always looking forward to seeing him during his visits in Europe or northern Finland that he loved so much. Laura will you please accept my deepest sympathies. Professor, rest in piece. You will be remembered.
Dr. Kikuchi, in addition to being a co-chair for my doctoral committee, was a friend and colleague. Even when ill, he was enthusiastic and supportive. I will miss him.

I am very sorry about the death of Prof. Kikuchi and offer my deepest condolences to Laura.
I met Shinya in 1999. Since then he still is a reference point as one of the best person and scientist I have ever met. He was and will be an inspiration to me for its passion in research and teaching.
Thank you Shinya Sensei!
Still stunned by this. Condolencies to Laura and all that were close to him. Shinya was my host when I visited UD in 98 from the UK - a period that changed my career. Always looked forward to catching up with him at TRB, which will be a different place now for me without his company to look forward to.
We met Prof. Kikuchi and Laura when we were at Virginia for my husband duty as post- doctoral Researcher. He was very kind and helpful. During our stay in US, he always treat us as a guide, we learned many things from him. We will miss him. Our sincere condolences to Laura and entire family.

My sincerest sympathies to the family of a man who meant so much to us all. Shinya's mentorship to me is the number one reason I've been so fortunate in having a successful career in transportation. He was kind and patient while only accepting the best from his students and will be sorely missed.
Dr. Kikuchi influenced me and countless others to enter the field of transportation engineering. There is no doubt that Dr. K was brilliant intellectually. He understood every aspect of transportation, and was an expert in the theoretical as well as practical. It was Dr. Kikuchi's human side that made him special. Dr. K was always available to encourage and was always looking for opportunities to make transportation engineering real to his students. He was a great professor, a great person and an amazing friend. The ITE Student Chapter at the University of Delaware was founded by Dr. Kikuchi. So many contributions, so little space. The world is a little bit smaller without Dr. K. I will miss him terribly. Way too soon. Condolences to his wife and family.
My condolences to Ms. Kikuchi and the rest of his family. It was an honor to have known a professor as eminent and knowledgeable, and yet so humble. Your presence as a professor, researcher and mentor will definitely be missed. May you rest in peace.
