Jean Harpham Obituary

Jean Harpham

Jean Mary (Wilkinson) Harpham passed away at home on Monday, February 25, surrounded by family after a lengthy illness.

Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, she became a registered nurse at The Hospital for Sick Children. She married the late John Harpham on September 16, 1950. In 1951, they moved to Wilmington, DE, where John worked as a PhD chemist for Hercules. Along with the entire extended family, she returned every summer to the family cottage at Oak Lake in Stirling, Ontario.

Jean's greatest love and joy in life was her family. She devoted herself with heart and soul to the care of her husband, children and grandchildren. Active in community affairs, she was a devoted member of The Cathedral Church of St. John for over fifty years. She was a volunteer for decades for the Junior Board of the Memorial Hospital Wilmington Medical Center, St. John's Next-to-New Shop, Wilmington Flower Market and Wilmington Garden Day. She beautified her home and those of her children using her extraordinary gifts for gardening and needlework.

She is survived by her three sons, Ted, David and Jim, and her sister, Marg Deeth. She is also survived by her daughters-in-law Wendy and Martha; her grandchildren, Becky Mandeville (Hunter), Rachel Harpham, Jessie Voit (Benedict), Jackie Harpham and Will Harpham; as well as her nieces and nephews, Tim Deeth (Lynda), Jean Deeth and Carolyn Deeth (Philip Blackford); and her great-nieces and great-nephews, Matthew (Sarah) Deeth, Michael Deeth, Thomas Deeth, Corey Deeth, Christopher Blackford, Ben Blackford and great-great-nephew Jackson Deeth.

The family wishes to thank Levine Coates for her friendship and loving care throughout the last year of Jean's life, as well Joanne and Belinda from Delaware Hospice

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 1, at 11 am at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, where the family will greet friends beginning at 10 am. Interment in Lower Brandywine Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Delaware Chapter, 240 N. James Street, Suite 100A, Newport, DE 19804.
