David Terhune Obituary

David Nelson

Terhune

David Nelson Terhune, (66), of Montchanin, Delaware died unexpectedly of cardiac arrest on Tuesday March 19, 2013, while working with family at their beloved sugarbush, Green Mountain Mapleworks, in Calais, VT. David was born April 26, 1946 in Newark, New Jersey, son of the late Nelson and Lucille Terhune. He is survived by his wife Becky, his two daughters, Kimbirly Hermann and her husband, Robert, of Colorado Springs, CO, and their children Rachael and Kaylie; and Pamela Hoover and her husband Jason of Westford, VT and their children Asa, India and Burke; his sisters Marcia and her husband, Robert, of Newark, DE, and Gwendolyn and her husband, Brett of Magnolia, DE and two nieces, Megan Lynch, her husband Daniel Monk & Lisa Elliott, along with his Aunt Almira and many cousins,

David earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics at Allegheny College in Meadville, PA and his MBA from the University of Texas at Austin, after which he began his business career as a Certified Public Accountant with Arthur Young & Company. For the past thirty-five years David has served as a corporate officer and/or director of eight companies. He served as the Chief Executive Officer of Applied Extrusion Technologies, Inc., a leading developer and manufacturer of oriented polypropylene film. He also served as the CEO of Cosmo Films, Inc. He formed Insyte Services, LLC, to provide consulting services to the plastics and packaging industries. He served as Editor of Orientate, a worldwide Executive Briefing servicing the BOPP industry. David took up the game of golf rather late in life with the same dedication he gave to all he did and for the past 8 years was the President of Fieldstone Golf Club in Greenville, Delaware. Most recently, David was actively involved in the production of maple syrup. Green Mountain Mapleworks was established four years ago and David, along with his son-in-law Jason, was building a family business. In 1998, David was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. With a fierce will to live, spiritual strength and a fabulous doctor he battled into remission and has passionately and actively been involved in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society ever since. He was an active member of Green Hill Presbyterian Church, and enjoyed being the Supervisor of the historic cemetery. David touched many lives, both personally and professionally and his presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 28 at Green Hill Presbyterian Church, 3112 Kennett Pike, Wilmington, Delaware. The family will be at the church at 9:30 a.m. for calling. A celebration of David's life will follow at Arsht Hall, 2700 Pennsylvania Avenue, Wilmington, DE. Donations may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 100 West 10th Street, Suite 209, Wilmington, DE 19801 or to Green Hill Presbyterian Church.

Not sure what to say?

I am in shock. Dave was the first supervisor that I had that I thoroughly admired, appreciated and respected. He was an integral part of Michael Stevens Interests based in Houston. He and Michael both have passed away way too young. Becky, I have thought of you both many times over the years and shared my admiration of Dave to many friends and colleagues. Be well and comforted by the wonderful life you built together. Prayers and Best Wishes Always,
Robyn Wonnell

I am still in disbelief that David is gone. He was such a great person that truly touched my life in a profoundly positive way. He inspired me to finish my degree and is the reason I went back to school. David will be missed deeply. I can not thank him enough for everything that he did for me. My thoughts and prayers are with Becky and the family. My deepest sympathies and God bless.
