Mrs. Nelson, Elmer, and Gwen – and the extended family
Please accept my deepest condolences for the loss of Elmer Sr.
He was larger than life – in every way. He took over the room – no matter what room – and no matter who was in it.
I have far too many memories to write here. And to be sure, all of them bring a smile. I remember how one Christmas, Santa Claus stopped by the McCracken house and delivered stockings full of Hershey's kisses. I still remember how I thought it was funny that Santa reminded me so much of Mr. Nelson…I remember him taking Elmer and me to a 76'ers game back when Wilt Chamberlain played. He took us right past the usher and down to the floor so we could see just how big those players were. He took us to the Haverford High basketball game at the Palestra to see Ray Edelman and Steve Joachim - the year Haverford won the state title. To this day, that's the most exciting basketball game I've ever seen. He made it that way.
And all the hundreds of times he'd walk out to the knee high field where we were always playing something…He always had words of encouragement – to keep us trying to get better.
I never heard him say one bad word about anybody – ever !!
He was a Great Guy and I'll miss him…but I'll never forget him.

When both my Mother and my Father passed away, Elmer was there. I was 9 years old when Mom passed away and I remember him taking me to see the fish in the basement of Marvils. He was a kind and caring man. When my Dad, who was terminally ill, passed away in March 1997 at our home, we called Marvils and Elmer came. I felt at peace knowing he was taking my Dad to the funeral home. Since then we have retired to Ocean City and had seen Elmer ushering at the Tabernacle. He was a man of faith and we were happy to know him.

Elmer was a good friend many years ago at The Stony Brook School on Long Island, NY. We were classmates, and happy ones, too. I have fond memories of Elmer. It is unfortunate that so many years have passed without our having been together. As with all believers in Christ Jesus, he is in a much better place. My sincere condolences to Elmer's family.
