I too knew Omer though time at St. Marks in the 60's. I did visit him
several years ago at his care home.(with Conrad Pinette).

73 years of friendship, good times, and great memories.

Omer and I were members of the same "gang" that hung out at St Marks College at UBC. Although we have not lived in the same city nor often in the same county since 1963 when I left Vancouver to join the foreign service, we always kept in touch. Over the years he remained in good standing among those near and dear to me and my family. He rarely wrote letters and stopped sending Christmas cards when he went to the senior's residence at the Augustinian House in Ladner. Nevertheless we always managed to get together during my infrequent trips to Vancouver from Ottawa or one of the foreign capitals where I had been posted by the government. He usually played the role of host whether it was at his family's beach house at Whiterock or later on the Volare in the Gulf Islands. Ours was one of those friendships where regardless of the length of time since we had last seen each other, it was as if almost no time had passed. When I called on him unannounced at the nursing home in South Surrey last May with Conrad Pinette, Omer was on the phone. Without any other sign of recognition, he said to the caller "my two worst enemies have just walked into the room" That was Omer. May he rest in peace.

We knew Omer in the 1960s at UBC, St. Mark's College, Newman Club. Omer was the 'wise', philosophically humorous observer of the antics of a much 'younger set'. On the occasions we met post-graduation we found him to be as cryptic, interested, interesting and friendly as ever. We understand how his family and close friends will miss him.

Sincere condolences.
