Gloria Montgomery Obituary
Greece: 73, passed away peacefully April 15, 2015. She was an Educator at West Irondequoit High School for 27 years. Her drama career included TV Commercials, 49 plays in community theater at Greece and Penfield. Gloria was an active member of Elders Gates UMC: Council, Trustee, Sunday School Teacher and directed Xmas Theater for many years. As a Daughter of the American Revolution (DAR), she held several board offices.
Gloria was the daughter of Madeline Schummer and Ernest Whitman. Received degrees from Nazareth College of Rochester, SUSD of Blackhills in SD, SUNY at Brockport and "ABD" at SUNY in Buffalo.
She married Ivan Montgomery in 1962 and had 2 children: Denise and Stuart. Her survivors include her husband, Ivan, children, Denise and Stuart, her sister, Vonnie Ackerman and niece, Carrie Ackerman; both of SD.
A Celebration of Life Service for Gloria will be held at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 4115 Dewey Ave., Greece, NY 14616 at 3PM Saturday, May 2nd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, donations, 6520 North Andrews Ave., Fort Lauderdale, FL. 33309-2130 in Gloria's memory.

I never met Gloria but knew of her through her sister Vonnie and niece Carrie. She was a creative and interesting soul. Her legacy will be that she influenced many during her life and the world is a better place for her presence. This is not RIP, it is a recognition that she will live on in the hearts and minds of the many people she affected. People who will think about her every now and then. May she make the afterlife, interesting.

I am so thankful I was able to visit with with Gloria on my last visit to Rochester. My husband and I had a very nice brunch with Gloria and Ivan. She was my shorthand teacher back in the early 70s. RIP Gloria.

Gloria was a wonderful friend from school days in Sturgis, SD up to the present. She was so fun to be around, a great organizer of class reunions, and a precious human being. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her classmates of the class of 1960, Sturgis High School. My deepest condolences to Ivan, Denise, Stuart and Vonnie. We share your loss.

Mrs. Montgomery was my favorite teacher at IHS. I was graduated in 1975. She left a lasting impression on me and these 40 years later I still think of her often.

I met Gloria doing Neil Simon's "Rumors" in 2006, she was special in many ways, a delight to be around and someone who would gently put me in my place when I was misbehaving, I will miss her infectious laugh, super lady!
