Thinking about you today, sir. I've decided to join the US Armed Forces, after a lot of thought and encouragement from you. You always told me I would be great, and almost a year since you have left us, I finally believe it myself. Thank you.

Buddy, Mike B and I were close friends and Navy pilots, who while in our mid 20's were almost inseparable. We lived in Pensacola, FL and flew for HC-16, our first squadron. I have nothing but great memories of Buddy, a truly great human being and someone who I feel proud and privileged to know. Buddy was always in the best physical shape and we often worked out together. He once told me his body was like a Ferrari and he had to keep it tuned up (one of the many proud Italian statements he would make and yes he had a great sense of humor along with being a great story teller). We all bought motorcycles and Corvettes and as you can imagine we totally enjoyed our bachelorhood back then. Of course Buddy was an outstanding pilot and Naval officer. When I crashed off the coast of Cuba due to an engine failure on takeoff, it was Buddy the squadron sent out to pick me up and get me back in the saddle. Both Buddy and I made the Navy our career and I was fortunate to see him on occasion and know what a great father he was to his children. I attended his Change of Command and knew his leadership abilities would take him far, in fact he was a Commodore and achieved the rank of Navy CAPT. Today I visited Buddy's grave, prayed and said my goodbyes which was especially hard as no one so full of life should have to die so young. So fair winds and following seas my good friend, the world is a lesser place without you in it, you will always live in my memory...

It's sad to say that I could only meet him a few times, though those few times, he told me a lot about him, and just by looking at him I could tell he was a great man, I am a Cadet at Grossmont, and he told me a few times I would make it big, and told me that he would love to have me, sadly before I could meet him one more time while I'm a cadet, he passed, his ceremony was held earlier this evening, it was a good ceremony, everybody cried, I cried. It was a good thing he did for Cadets and others. I will miss him dearly through the few times I met him. Our Cadet CO gave a good speech, and I think if the Captain was there, watching, he would've loved to see how many cadets came on their own accord, even some that have never met him.
