Jan, I am so sorry to learn of your father's death. May he rest in peace.

A few years ago, John came to visit us in Colorado. Since it was elk bugling season, we took him to Rocky Mountain National Park. As we neared a large bull elk grazing in a meadow next to the road, John insisted that Ron stop the car so he could get out for a picture. This is not advised. We protested. But John left the car and walked quickly into the grass to face the animal. We held our breaths. Fortunately, it didn't react. Somewhere there is a close-up snapshot of a big bull elk shot with a standard lens.

I will miss John's stories and humor. I especially
appreciate his kindness to Jane and to my dad and mom during difficult times in their lives. Like everyone in his generation in our family, he was an excellent role model for all of us as we grew up. It was my good fortune to know him.

When our father passed away at an early age, John became the male figure in our lives and included us, especially me, in his activities with one of his sons who was of the same age. At the time, I didn't fully appreciate the impact he had on my life, but as I got older, I gained a better appreciation of his influence and for this I am forever grateful.
May he rest in peace.
