John G. Wunder
Ogdensburg - Funeral services for John G. Wunder, age 78, of Ogdensburg, NY and formerly of Rochester, NY, will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at 2:00PM at Frary Funeral Home, Ogdensburg, with Pastor David Hart officiating. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery with military honors. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 from 12:00PM until the time of the funeral services at Frary Funeral Home. Mr. Wunder passed away Saturday afternoon, November 25, 2017 at Riverledge Nursing Home.
John is survived by his three sons, Timothy Wunder and his wife, Julie, of Norfolk, NY, James Wunder and his wife, Gwen, of Jacksonville, FL and Johnny Wunder of Ogdensburg; a daughter, Lori Rubenstein and her husband, Hal, of Dewitt, NY; seven grandchildren, Brittney and her husband, Justin, Jesse, Jacob, Sarah, Allie, Dylan and Maxwell and one great grandchild, Justin. John is predeceased by two sisters, Joan Opitz and Ruth Braunle.
John was born on July 20, 1939, in Rochester, NY, the son of Carl and Florence Witty Wunder. John joined the United States Coast Guard in 1957 and was honorably discharged in 1977 after twenty years of service. He served as the chief boatswain in Key West and Oswego and retiring in Ogdensburg. John married Jo Ann Winifred Buffett on May 27, 1963, in Watertown, NY. She predeceased him on December 30, 2005.
John was affiliated with the Ogdensburg VFW, American Legion and a past member of the AMVETS. He enjoyed socializing at various clubs and after his retirement he cleaned and performed maintenance at various businesses in Ogdensburg. John enjoyed spending time in his backyard oasis where he worked on his garden. Mr. Wunder loved the NY Yankees and football.
