Fern was my dear friend's mom, my Girl Scout leader and my mom's friend. She was an amazing lady, a very kind and loving person. I love the thought of her being with my mom again.

I will forever and fondly remember Mrs. Wilson. She was so kind and sweet on us. To this day I remember the dish of candy corn in her mother's room, helping roll the best molasses cookies in sugar, the sound of her typewriter, her very creative homemade dill pickle and peanut butter sandwiches, and her laugh. A long life well spent is never a loss!

Fern has been my true dear friend and trusted Tutu to my daughter. She was so graceful, lovely and classy. She became so tiny as she aged, we could pick her up in our hands. She had a Japanese taste for subtlety, and she was easily entertained, she enjoyed most everything and would get silly with us. We read the Tolkien books together and she mastered all the Silmarillion. She answered every letter I wrote. She kept my presents. She had a way of saying my name that just made me melt, I imagine we all felt that way. She was impeccable in dealing with her changes and losses in life, and accepting the ever present help of Mary and Heather- and others I am sure. I admire her tennis stance in life,a stance of power in all her dealings, whatever loss or pain came she faced it humbly without anger...except for ball hogging. Cherie,I think you must be having a big welcome party with all your dear ones in heaven. But we miss you.

I greatly enjoyed my friendship with Fern which started on the tennis court but did not end there. We are both Nebraskans and Alpha Xis and had other common interests. What I remember most about Fern is that she was always so interested in learning about me rather than talking about herself. She was joyous and had that twinkle in her eye. Heather, you were such a bright spot in her life.
I'll end with a tennis story which I think depicts Fern so well. Ten years or so ago she fell on the court and broke her pelvis. When I talked with her she wasn't as upset about the fall as she was at the fact that her male partner had hogged her ball!
Rest in peace dear friend,
Jan Bradbury
