Gary was a joy. We were grateful for his friendship and sad for his early departure.

This is a very belated sympathy comment, but I just want to register the feeling, often expressed by members of Wayne Presbyterian church in Wayne, PA, that Gary's time with us changed us as a congregation. He infused a sense of joy, and humor, and caring into all his interactions at Wayne, and he encouraged us to be more caring, and more joyous. To all his family, especially his nephews and nieces, I send my sympathy.

I just learned of Gary's passing today and was shocked because I did not know he was even ill. As I read the comments I saw no one from his time at Bel Air Pres in CA when he was my youth pastor. Gary's love for The Lord was only equaled by his love of people and passion for practical jokes. One of the first times I met him we were shopping for a church BBQ when Gary lurched into the frozen food bin as if he were in the grips of an uncontrollable fit. Frozen food went flying and we kids stared in absolute shock. Store personnel soon rescued Gary and he quickly brushed himself off and proceeded to the check out stand. It was not until we got outside that he burst out laughing and let's us in on his joke. We were all hooked on Gary from that second on and he used that ability to bond thru humor over and over again and not just with kids. I smile now knowing he is where he spent his life his life striving to be, but I would caution the disciples that if someone ties your sandals together while you are not looking... You may want to keep an eye on this Reddish character. I love you Gary Reddish! The world became a sadder place today when I learned you left it my brother. My prayers go out to your family and your larger church family and the loads of people in Southern California who do not know you are gone but know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior because of you!

Gary had many passions beyond youth ministry and music. At our church he served tirelessly in pastoral care and counseling, and was often called to a hospital room or the home of a chronically ill parishioner in the middle of the night; people knew that, when called, Gary would go, no matter what. He was warm and caring, and quite funny. I will never forget my mother-in-law's memorial service, which was quite small, held in the sanctuary at Wayne Presbyterian Church. Gary read scripture, prayed, and preached the homily, but also ran up and down the chancel steps two or three times during the service to play the organ. What a precious pastor and friend he was. We have missed him so much since he moved away, and still speak of him often.

Gary was a friend and mentor to me while I worked with him in Wayne, PA. His pastoral heart and love for people made him very special to so many. He is now at home, worshipping the Lord our God for all eternity. I like to imagine him playing the doxology on God's awesome organ! We miss him, and remember him fondly.
