I was a freshman in Dr. Allen's intro zoology class in the fall on 1973. I was saddened to read of his passing. He was a phenomenal educator!

Dear family, as you know your dad is one of a kind. As a former student, teaching assistant then colleague my memories of Les are many and rich. Through all of them run his consistency of friendship and humor. Here's just one. As his Embryology lab instructor he would seek feedback about student comments on his teaching. When I told him how they were asking me if I had ever seen him waste a moment the next class period he waited until the tardy bell rang before entering the classroom. Thne in the echo chamber hall of the old Brimhall building you could here his deep rumbling voice begin to lecture and when he reached the classroom most had a half page of notes. The question was never asked again. May the blessings of the Gospel bring sweet peace until the Celestial dawn of being forever reunited with such a beloved father.
