Still remember the day, 1971, Boca Raton Arts Fair, he sold me 2 daisy paintings I stood and admired. Never forgot his kindness and humility. They still grace my home.
Donald F. Allan, great American artist (strongly influenced by the 19th century Hudson River School of artists such as Thomas Cole, Asher Durand and Albert Bierstadt, as well as the Trompe-l'oeil school of still-life painting), the most companionable of companions, the sweetest and tenderest soul I ever had the privilege of knowing, the funniest and most capable deliverer of hilarious one liners, a spiritual giant who truly loved as his God would have him love--his daily practice was to make every life he touched a happier, better appreciated and more positive one, and the most exceptional and effective father to not only his own children but to all persons with whom he came in contact. Dad, your example of the best that humanity has to offer will never be forgotten!! With love and eternal appreciation.
My condolences to the family. I pray you find comfort in your memories and solace in the God of all comfort, and hearer of our distress and prayers. Psalms 145:18
Thora was my first Primary teacher in Manhattan. Don and Thora were frequent guests in our home during the NY 1951-1970 years, I tried to make contact with the Allan family many years ago but did not have their address. Please give my love to the family. They hold a special place in my heart while I was a youth in NYC.
I think Don Allan's artwork was indeed a reflection of the kind of person he was: decent, warm, gentle, kind hearted and basically good to all who had the honor of crossing his path. I will always remember how lovingly sweet and patient he was with his children and grandchildren-men like Don Allan come along once in a lifetime. I hope his legacy and tender memories bring a measurement of peace to his family at this time. My thoughts and prayers are with them.
kind, gracious truly a beautiful man
Brother Allan was not just a beautiful father to his amazing children, but also a father to so many of us. Such a sweet spirit. He and Sister Allan have such a special place in my heart, always. My love and prayers to all the Allan's... I love you all so much.
One of the kindest and gentlest people I've known. My memories are of an exemplary husband and father. His influence will be everlasting.
