I worked for Dr. Smart in the lab while a pre-vet student at Utah State in the late 1960's and have considered him a friend and colleague since that time. I was saddened to learn of his passing.
I am saddened by the passing of our dear friend and fellow "Bear Laker" but I am also very thankful for his tremendous influence on me during our years at Utah State.
It saddens me to hear of the passing of Dr. Smart. I will miss his periodic visits to the lab. He was a major influence in my professional career, being the primary individual responsible for me coming to work at the Utah Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. He was a brilliant individual with which I was honored to work. I am proud to have been blessed with knowing Ross and being able to call him a colleague, mentor, and friend.
I was very sorry to hear of the loss of a great man. I was blessed to see Ross every month or so, I was very excited to see his name on my books when I came into to shop. I loved to ask him question and hear about his thriving grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.
Dr. Smart is one of the most influential people in my life. He inspired excellence and directed me into the study veterinary pathology. What a great teacher, mentor and friend.
I was associated with Dr. Smart through my pre-veterinary training at USU and again, later in life, as a member of the faculty. His kind interest and wise counsel were always appreciated. His example and legacy as a great human being will always have a special place in my heart.
Sorry for your loss..My grand-mother was Sarah Smart Hawkes. Lived in the Preston, Idaho area..My e-mail address
I am very sorry to hear of his passing. Dr. Smart was an instrumental part in helping me in my Veterinary career. Observing his daily work ethic, and knowledge of our profession is something that had a great impact on me as a student at USU. A wonderful man that will be greatly missed.
Dr. Smart will forever be remembered for his contributions in the veterinary field. However, it is his contribution to my character that will have the longest impact.
We are saddened by the passing of our wonderful, close friend and relative whom we love dearly. He has been a part of our entire lives in one way or another.

I am so sorry to read of the passing of Dr. Ross Smart. What an amazingly kind man he was to me. He always exhibited a quiet respect and fairness to everyone he came in contact with. My thoughts and prayers are with all of his family members and love ones. Love, Laurel
During my career at USU, Ross was a great friend and example of what a dedicated scholar and disciple of the Savior should be and do. His quiet accomplishments did not go unnoticed and will not be forgotten.
