My name is Lorna Moffett, daughter of Lydia Washburn and Ben H. Moffett, formerly of Provo, Utah.

My mother was a student of Lorna Call Alder at BYU and she loved this woman dearly. In fact, I am named after your mother!

I was surprised to see her obituary in the newspaper, as I don't take a paper and rarely check the obituaries, but just happened to one day and I am so very glad that I did. I had NO IDEA that Lorna Call Alder was still living during much of my life. I would definitely have made it a priority to pay her a visit - to search out where she lived. I always wanted to meet this grand woman of whom I had heard so much about.
My mother went to BYU with a broken heart from being orphaned and from the break-up of a relationship with a young man. I am sure that the love that your mother emulated, nourished my mother and helped her through some very difficult times. My mother became a school teacher, and a good one. She had a good role model - Lorna Call Alder.

I remember her sister Fulvia Dixon Law as she was in a dinner group with my parents when I was quite young.

It is heart-warming to know that through the gospel of Jesus Christ we are assured that your dear mother lives. She is progressing and happy and best of all, she will be reunited with each of you on a promised day in the future. I know, in my heart, that she and my mother have re-newed their acquaintance in their new heavenly home. Life and love continue. "Sweet IS the peace the gospel brings."

I would love to correspond with anyone - everyone in your family. I would love to meet you. Please contact me at 801-290-2448 or email: lmoffett428@yahoo.com

God be with you at this tender time.

All my love, Lorna Moffett

Sister Alder was an amazing woman, and an example to each of us who knew her. She taught both my wife and I at BYU in our Elementary Ed Art classes. What a fun, creative class that was. Hers was a life well lived. We express our condolences to the family.

Lorna was connected to my mother's family in Mexico. My Aunt Bertha Belle Harris was Lorna's child hood friend with whom she traveled to New York to Columbia Univeristy and later to Berkley, California. Lorna was instrumental in the Benjamin Franklin library in Mexico and my Aunt Bertha was the Head Librarian there until her death in 1952. I will always remember Lorna as a wonderful kind and spiritual woman of God. She had a very positive influence on our family. My mother, Margaret Harris Brand loved Lorna like her own sister along with her other sisters. BYU is a better Univeristy because of the life of Lorna Call Alder. May the Lord bless her family with peace and love from the Brand and Harris' families.
