Thomas Bunkall Obituary

1928 ~ 2014
Thomas Merlin Bunkall, 86, passed away April 11, 2014 in South Jordan, Utah. He was born on March 5, 1928 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Ada Simons and Thomas Bunkall. Growing up he was known by his middle name - Merlin. It wasn't until he served in the Army during the Korean War that everyone began calling him Tom. He also picked up a hobby during the war that he enjoyed all of his life - playing the harmonica. He served an LDS mission to the Northwestern States. Tom married Marjorie Peterson in 1953 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married for 52 years before Marjorie passed away in 2006.
Tom spent the largest part of his career working for Mountain Bell. He enjoyed and was good at fixing and building things. His talents also extended to landscaping and gardening in the beautiful yards he created. In later years, Tom developed a talent for woodcarving. Tom and Marjorie loved the outdoors and often took the family fishing, camping, and boating. Tom faithfully served in many callings in his church including membership on the High Council.
Tom is survived by six daughters, Laurie (Larry) Chandler, Julie (Bruce) Wilson, Kathy (Kirk) Kimball, Cindy (Mark) Gomez, Tammy (Stephen) Anderson, and Lisa (Kurt) Jensen, 18 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters, Mae Jensen, Elaine Brown, Darlene Templin, Myrna Gaylene Bunkall, and his brother Gary Bunkall.
The family would like to express appreciation to the staff of Carrington Court and Millcreek Hospice for their loving care.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the LDS South Jordan Utah Stake Center, 2450 West 10400 South. There will be a viewing prior to the services from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Huntsman Cancer Institute. Interment, Murray City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to www.broomheadfuneralhome.com.

Dear Daughters, Tom is one of my favorites, he was one of my older cousins that I always looked up to. I love the whole Bunkall families both of them. While I was growing up I just assumed they were all one happy but whatfamily. We (the Thaxtons)would go up to 2700 south and visit them often. Tom is such a favorite. I'll never forget him and my Grandpa Bunkall (his cousin Mel) trying to entrap me as a kid and say who looked older since they looked so much alike. I love Tom and Marge very much! So grateful to be a part of an amazing family. All my love and prayers!

Tom and Marge were such kind and peaceful neighbors. It was sad to see them leave the Hyland Lake neighborhood. Together they created beautiful homes and beautiful yards and great memories.

When I was small he used to pick us pin us to the wall and say your as pretty as a picture, He was patient and took me on my first waterskiing trip. He had a gorgeous yard all my years growing up and always a smile on his face. He loved all his girls and his wife was his princess he treated her like gold. Tom was a beautiful man with a heart of gold and will be missed. Kris Loyola Bednarik (a old neighbor from the old neighborhood)
