In the fall of 1985, Coach Holz told the UMS football team that we should go to the high school parking lot on a Saturday morning and participate in a can collecting fundraiser, as UHS was installing a new grass field and was raising money. Two players showed up as did one, lone adult volunteer . . . Barney Davis. As Barney drove me and the other player around to ask neighbors to donate their cans he spoke with pride about his family. How fitting that my first memory of Barney related to him serving our community and helping kids. As most of you know, Barney became a fixture at UHS events, working at the gate. Due to Barney's humble nature, Urbandale students did not realize they were in the presence of a real American hero. We thank the Dennis family for sharing your husband, dad, or grandpa with the Urbandale community. He exemplified service to country and community, and always did so in a dignified way. May God bless your family.

Just heard the news. So sorry for your loss. He was a great guy. He made it to 93! What an accomplishment. My prayers are with all of you.

Urbandale softball lost its best fan. I loved entering the field on game day and seeing Barney's smiling face each time. You are missed Barney. Shannon S
