Lorain Veronica Ohnemus

Lorain Veronica (Dittmer) Ohnemus, 87, died January 8, 2017 at Taylor House Hospice after a courageous battle with breast cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday January 12th at Holy Trinity Catholic Church 2926 Beaver Ave, Des Moines, with a luncheon following the service. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Cemetery, Lacona, IA. A visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday January 11th at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home 8201 Hickman Rd, Urbandale with a Rosary service at 7:00 p.m.
Lorain was born August 9, 1929 to August (Gus) and Mary (Bauer) Dittmer in rural Warren county Iowa. She attended Rosemount grade school and Lacona High School graduating in 1947. In 1954 Lorain married Floyd Ohnemus and together they raised five children.
When Lorain first moved to Des Moines she worked at LB Price Mercantile. After having her children she was employed with the Des Moines Public Schools in both nutrition and as a building associate. She worked at various schools including Franklin Junior High, Meredith Junior High, Hoover High School, Hillis Elementary and Greenwood Elementary. Lorain enjoyed traveling, gardening, volunteering with various activities at church, and spending time with her family.
Lorain is survived by her children: Victoria (David) Myer of Northglenn, CO, James (Pamela) Ohnemus of Davenport, William (Paulette) Ohnemus of Carlisle, Thomas (Jodi) Ohnemus of West Des Moines, and Kaye Ohnemus of Urbandale; twelve grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and four step-great grandchildren.
Lorain was preceded in death by her husband Floyd; her parents; sister Evelyn and brother Darrell.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Taylor House Hospice, or a charity of the donor's choice.

I was so sorry to hear that Lorain passed away. She and Kay came to my Dad's (Darrell Wadle's) visitation in Chariton in April. It meant so much to my family and especially to my Mom (Erma). She was a very kind and caring person.

I am so sorry for your loss. You used to use a lot of her funny sayings, and she faithfully sent the cereal box packed with homemade cookies during our years together at NMSU. She made curtains, pillows, quilts, and your beautiful wedding gown. What a special mom.
