Stephen "Steve" Martin, Sr.
Carlisle
Stephen Martin, of Carlisle, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Stephen was born on March 24, 1946 in Des Moines to Floyd and Gertrude Martin.
Stephen served his country proudly in the United States Army Reserves as a medic during the Vietnam War. He graduated from Tech High School in 1964. In 1969, he moved to Carlisle and has lived there since. Steve started his career in 1964, at Meredith in the photo department and retired in 1998 after 34 years of loyal service. Steve was an avid Hawkeye fan. He enjoyed bowling, golf, softball and cherished time with his family.
Stephen leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 47 years, Shanda; children, Tammy (Jon) McCormick, Steve Jr. (Kim) and Trevor (Shelby); grandchildren, Wendy and Matt Hassel, Colby, Haley and Jacob Martin and Abby Zoll; step-grandchildren, Mariah and William McCormick; brothers, Marty and Brad Martin; sisters, Sandy Formaro and Trudy Harley; and numerous other loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Garden Cemetery. Family will greet friends starting at 12 noon on Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association or to Steve's family.
