Denny,

I am sorry for the loss of your dad. My older brother would see your dad on occasion and always have a great chat.

We just learned of Vernon's passing and sorry to see such a nice man leave us. I don't know how to reach the family, so this will have to do. I am Sherri Enke, daughter of Babe and Nancy Cox. We are related -- I remember your family coming to visit us on the farm in Clear Lake. Kathryn and Harold Grattidge were my grandparents. Vernon and your mother were always so kind. They drove all the way to Ft. Madison to celebrate my Mom's 80th birthday. I will remember him fondly as a real gentleman!

Denny, I'm so sorry for the loss of your father. I'm happy that you have Alice to be with you as your support and partner.

Vern was a good neighbor and friend. We are saddened by his passing but joyful about his being reunited with his lovely wife, Betty. We were lucky enough to have known them both through Holy Trinity and the neighborhood. Mark and Bonnie Sirois

Sorry to hear of Vern's passing. I always admired his dedication, his smile, his sense of humor, and his love of golf. A special memory involves the '99 US Senior Open at DMG&CC. We ran into each other at the driving range; no one else was around. Then up came Larry Nelson (winner of the 1983 US Open, the 1981 and 1987 PGA, along with 29 other wins). He had come out for a late afternoon workout. So there it was, just the 3 of us. Though I can't recall what we talked about, I remember how special it was, just 3 golfers (well, Larry, Vern [who recently shot his age] and me) talking golf on a summer afternoon.
Vern's dedication to his church (who's going to take his place in the funeral choir?)and St. Vincent dePaul are well known and are a witness to all. God bless Vern and all of you. You will be in my prayers
