Betty was one of my dearest friends. I met her at Balboa Baptist Church, She was a great example to me of what it meant to be a follower of Christ and also taught me most of what I know about quilting. I am grateful and blessed to have had her as a friend for the past 15 years, I will miss her greatly as we have talked often on the phone since she moved to Texas and I moved to Tennessee. She dearly loved her family and I know all of you are saddened by your loss but grateful she will no long have to suffer pain. May God comfort all of you.

I first met Betty when I moved to Hot Springs Village in 2006 and joined her quilting bee -- the FreeBees. She was so helpful and encouraging to a first-time quilter. When we began getting to know each other -- our histories, families, etc. -- we found out that Betty and Lynn lived in Helena, Arkansas, when they were first married and he managed the local Montgomery Ward where my aunt Nina Porter worked. Aunt Nina and Betty became friends and my aunt even gave a tea in Betty's honor when she moved to Helena. Right before Betty left Hot Springs Village for Texas, she shared with me a photo and newspaper article about this tea. According to Betty, Aunt Nina rushed to the Helena Hospital to be with her when her first child was born.

Betty was a great lady, gracious to everyone, and a joyous person. You and your brother should be very proud of her. God bless you and your family -- all of whom Betty loved so much. Take care and may God keep you safely in the palm of his hand.

I taught with Betty at Sam Houston High and knew her a kind, thoughtful teacher and friend. She will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.
