August 17, 2012
To the family and friends of Pfc. Benjamen Chisholm:
Remembering Benjamen on the anniversary of his passing. May our fallen heroes never be forgotten.
The days keep passing and yet it still seems impossible to me. Even now I have to say the words...but it feels like a betrayel and I am angry - desperately angry. If I could just get there I know I could dig that bomb up out of the road. I would find it and I would dig it up and I would destroy it before you ever woke up. Before you lifted your head off your pillow that morning. If God would just let me do that. Or if I could go back to a night in 1988 when you were two and we were sitting on the floor and you were sitting in my lap and Grandma was sitting on my bed and we were talking. I would go back to that night and I would figure it all out. These days I play with Lily and I love the tinkling sound of her laughter and how the second she hears music she starts dancing - just like you did at her age. At night we blow kisses up at the stars to say "goodnight Daddy". My favorite time is right after bath - sometimes - not all the time - but sometimes - she'll snuggle and Place her little hand up to my cheek. I can't help the tears that run down into her fingers and her big blue eyes - her Dady's eyes - try to tell me it's okay, but it's not okay. You aren't here with her - with me - with us - everyone misses you. I miss you - every second of every of minute, if every hour, of every day. I love you Bug - Mama
Ben you are One of the best people to walk this earth.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed
But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.
For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.
I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you .

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to our Brother-in-Arms PFC Benjamen Chisholm. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Ben. And to Ben it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Ben, you are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,335 military Legionnaire Veterans of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Ben’ family and loved ones.

Ben, I was so excited when you started chatting with me on Monday. To think that would be the last time. I will never forget that. I miss you so much! I will always remember the good times when we were with our friends. Thank you for everything. You always knew how to put a smile on face my when something was bothering me. I love you!!! To think we will see each other again brings great joy to my life!!!!!
Ben you will always be in my memories, your crazy dance moves, always making jokes, making sure that everyone was having a good time around you. You will be missed. You are an American Hero!
Ben, I have a feeling that you will always be the brother who will kick my butt, but also be willing to drop everything if I'm ever in need. Being LDS, I know that in eternity, everything lasts. While we're upset that you're gone, you're where we all aspire to be eventually. Heaven wouldn't be heaven without you, and I know that the desires of your heart were, and always will be good. You were always smiling, always laughing, always joking and you were taken way too early in our books. Then again, we're selfish and would have given anything to keep you in our lives a little longer. Many took you on as their family, most importantly and permanently, my family. Your name is Ben Chisholm, but you'll always be a May. It says something when everyone you know has something good to say about you. We don't mourn for your loss, we are sad that we must continue life without you by our sides. But we will see you again, and that's the most important part. I love you Ben, and I will miss 'til the day I see you on the other side of the veil.
"I've heard it said that people come into our lives for a reason, bringing something we must learn, and we are led to those who help us most to grow, if we let them, and we help them in return."
I hope I helped you in some way, just like you helped me and everyone else that knew you.
Like I said before, heaven wouldn't be heaven without you, my 5th brother.
Thank you PFC. Benjamen Chisholm for your service. You are a true hero. And thank you to the Chisholm family for your ultimate sacrifice to our country.
My prayers are with the family and friends. Thank you for your service and for giving all. God bless.
My deepest sympathy in the loss of PFC Benjamen Chisholm. He gave the ultimate for my freedom and yours. Thank you.
