Although I didn't know Johnnie; you'rer in my thoughts and prayers at this time and may you always cherish the many memories you have.

Johnnie did alot of good things by helping lots of artists get their start and letting those who were aspiring stars have an opportunity to perform in front of an audience.

I am exactly 9 days older than Johnny was and not able to attend the Revue now. I have so many wonderful memories of Johnny and Wanda, the bus trips cruises and other events and have many treasured photos. Some of those memories include Luanne, Ashley,Wanda's mother and other family members. I always loved going to the show fron the Grapevine days to Arlington and Johnny made each one so
cherished and delightful. I will keep Wanda and the family in my thoughts and prayers for the continous success of the show.

I am so sorry to learn of Johnnie's death. Back in the mid 40's we lived outside McGregor and around the bend from "Big Johnnie", Gertrude, "Little Johnnie" and Wanda. My sister and my two brothers and I had a lot of fun times playing baseball with Johnnie and Wanda. He was a sweet man and never forgot people from his past. He'll be missed. Back about 12 years ago, another Arlington Police officer and I rented out the Music Hall to put on a yearly variety show for police employees with proceeds going to the police associations's Santa Cops. Johnnie asked me about it and said he would like to set up a collection jar at the Christmas shows for his audiences to donate. I thought, ok, a few extra hundred dollars would be helpful. It turned out to be in the thousands and has been every year since then thanks to the generous people. Another great Johnnie idea! Thanks, Johnnie.

We have been attending the Johnnie High show almost every Saturday night since the show moved to Arlington. To be able to attend such a high quality show has been such a privilege. For a man to be 80 years old and still have the same love and passion for his music and show as he did when he first started out is truly remarkable. He will be truly missed. The memorial service on Saturday was beautiful and very fitting for this great man.The whole family is in our thoughts and prayers.

To the High Family,
Johnnie was the person who gave me a chance to sing on stage for the first time. It was my first performance, and I was very honored to have sung for the first time on Johnnie's stage. He gave me my start in performing in front of a crowd. Johnnie will always be in my heart everytime I step onto a stage to perform. I will never forget him and I will miss him so much.

How many lives did Johnny High touch? He gave so many people a chance to pursue an entertainment career, while at the same time provided excellent entertainment that a person could bring their whole family to see. He made everyone feel so special. May God's richest blessings be upon his family, and all those whose lives he touched. May we all live our lives like he did so we can sing with him throughout eternity.

What can I say about johnnie high well I know that he was a loving and caring person that could probably make anybodys day and put a smile on their face. I didn't really know who he was until my grandparents told me about him so I told them I have to meet him so they took me to one of his shows and I loved it. The show was really good everybody who was singing up on stage had really great voices but there was one voice that stood out and it was johnnie high his voice was amazing it sounded different from everybody else.Well I don't want to make this to long so I just have a couple of more things to say I'm very lucky to have met a guy like johnnie high he had voice like nobody else and he could put a smile on your face no matter what he did or what he had to say there was always something he had said or did to make you smile. I will miss you johnnie high. I LOVE YOU

While its hard to imagine the CMR continuing without Johnnie, it will because that's what he wanted and his legacy is so strong and Ashley does a tremendous job as emcee. I have so many wonderful memories from my first performance in 1997 to Christmas shows, cruises, special events...on and on. No matter how many times you performed on his show, Johnnie always made you feel special and a part of the CMR family. I will always remember the great advice he gave me. His honesty and integrity were some of his greatest traits. His love for the Lord was never in question. I will forever be honored by his friendship, mentorship and the opportunity to perform on his stage. My love, prayers and thoughts are with Wanda, Luanne, Ashley and their families. The show must go on and it will with Johnnie watching over it from heaven, where I'm sure he's putting together a great country music show right now. God Bless You Johnnie.
March 20, 2010
Luanne,
You had such a wonderful dad. Heaven is now blessed to have such a talented country singer. My mother died of CHF last month. Would love to catch up with you sometime. I think the last time I saw you was shortly after we graduated from GHS. Bless you, Nancy (Lear) Migl

Trying to imagine " life without Johnniehigh " is very difficult. He was a friend to all he met and tremendous influence and encouragement to so many young people. His enthusiam for the show and Country Music was indescribable. Anyone who knew him knew that his "one wife, one daughter and one granddaughter ",as he often mentioned on stage, were the source of the joy in his heart which came through in his personality onto the stage.

He often said he had a head full of worthless trivia and we loved hearing him tell it even more than once..

We all loved him and will miss him so very much..Wanda, Luanne and Ashley we love you very much and extend our deepest sympathy to each of you. God Bless and comfort you at this time..
March 20, 2010
Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time, may you find comfort in each other and our Heavenly Father. Johnnie will be greatly missed by all.

Little did i know that when I attended my first Johnnie High show at Will Rogers Auditorium I would again years later be going to the Arlington theater to see our grandson, Luke Robinson, perform on the Johnnie High Country Music Revue. He has sung there for many years and I am thankful for the influence of such a fine man as Johnnie High and all the other good people there. When our son called on Wednesday evening and told us that Johnnie had died, it was hard to believe that we would not see him on stage again in his bright jackets and with so much enthusiam and love for the show and the performers. Once, during a rehearsal, I saw him call across the stage to someone I could not see..."You sure are a fine looking woman, your husband must be very proud". Then I realized it was you Wanda, he was talking to. I thought that was a very loving thing to do, and I always held him in high regard. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and all his family and close friends who loved him so much.

Good bye to his mortal body, but his memory and inspiration will live on in all of you. Through out the years he will live on in your hearts, and he will never really be gone.. He will be there, right there where he has always been, right there in your hearts... close your eyes, and you will find him smiling at you and laughing the way only he could.... God Bless you all...
March 20, 2010
He was a flame that will never lose it's spark.
March 20, 2010
Ashley, and family, I know this is a sad time in your life, but try to just remember how much he loved you, and remember the smiles even when your tears start to fall. He would want everyone to smile and go on with life. Arlington, and the world lost a great man, but the world gained inspiration and lessons in life from him that will never be forgotten. He was a legend in his time. He will never be forgotten. God bless you all.

March 20, 2010
"Be not afraid...." This was my favorite song at my dad's funeral in October. He too was 80 and died of heart disease in Michigan. So I hope the words comfort you as it did our family. I will always remember our Saturday nights at the Opry and the night Kimi finally got to sing! But it is Johnnie who helped shape Kimi. Her persistence to sing paid off and now she sings for the Army (Iraq and Germany)while she serves our country. We SALUTE YOU Johnnie High, for giving so much of your heart that God had to take the final piece. God Bless your family in this time of grief and a huge THANK YOU. I am attaching a photo to be a symbol of gratitude and appreciation to Johnnie in all that he did for all of us! It is Kimi (who adored you Johnnie), and her brother, both in the Military, saluting their grandpa.I FORWARD THIS SALUTE TO YOU Johnnie, since we all cannot be there physically but in spirit. God Bless you Wanda, LuAnn,Ashley and the whole Johnnie High Family. May you be lifted up to Him and be strengthened not by grieving for the past, but in knowing you shall be reunited in the future.

He will be truely missed.

March 20, 2010
Thank you for your passion and for being an encourager to so many for so long.
March 20, 2010
Many years the C.M.R. has been a big part of our lives. We have been attending your shows from the beginning and have never saw a bad one. We never missed a show because if you did you might miss the one where that special act was found and Johnnie would bring them on stage and let them perform. We have memories of many; but I guess Danny Cooksey stands out more than any. He sang there's a tear in my root beer because Johnny didn't allow anyone to say beer or any other slang or foul words in songs or otherwise. Your passing will leave a void in our hearts. God bless Wanda,LuAnn and Ashley as they continue to carry on Johnnie's legacy. Love you all. Thanks
for the memories.

Wanda, LuAnn, and Ashley, I am sooooo sorry to hear about Johnnie. He truly was a wonderful man and so self-giving to many, many others. Remember, "the wounds of sorrow always heal clean when the grace of God is applied in its abundance." That is a quote from Brother Lester Roloff, who I used to work with in Corpus Christi. and he would try to comfort others with those words. God be with all of you. Wanda, you've been such a blessing to so many others also. Hang in there. Johnnie will be greatly missed, but we know he is in an awesome place where there is no sorrow and no pain. I am so sorry to hear of your great loss. I will always remember Johnnie with a smile on his face, a song in his heart and a kind word or "gesture" of affection for you. As a kid it always made me giggle how he would tease you.
My most cherished times is when all of you would come to our farm in Krum to go dove hunting. Johnnie nicknamed me "bird dog" because the men would send me out in the field to gather the dove after their successful shot hit the mark. We would later enjoy our feast with gravy and biscuts.
I pray that many wonderful memories will provide some comfort in this time of grief. .......Garmon and Nancy Tindle Smith (Ada, Ok)

To Wanda, LuAnnn, Ashley, and the whole High family. It is hard to believe that the man we thought would live forever on earth has gone "home". He is no longer in pain. He will now always be young and healthy and remember, this was just his temporary home. We will all see him again when it is our time. Prayers to you all.
March 19, 2010
Dear Miss Wanda and Kids, my heart hurts for you. I only wish that I had been able to tell Johnnie thank you for his incouragment and direction he showed me early in life. It has given me a wonderful life long career as a fiddle player. What a wonderful friend and gentalmen that my Lord and Savior has called home, Johnnie High will be greatly missed, Eric Tull & Family
March 19, 2010
I will never forget when Johnnie came to my house in Waco and sang a few songs for a party. The occasion was my return from military duty overseas. I think my father put him up to it. It was so kind of him to do that. This was about 1968. Wanda, I am related to you in some way; a 2nd cousin, I think. I also remember seeing him a couple of other times; I think at family reunions. He was a fine man. I am very saddened to hear of his passing.
March 19, 2010
You'll be missed

Dear Wanda and LouAnn,
Lee Ann called early this morning to tell me about Johnnie. So many fond memories of years ago came to mind. My deepest sympathy to each of you; and may God's love and grace be with you during these coming days.
March 18, 2010
I was grieved to find out today that Johnnie had passed. I appreciated so much the opportunities that he gave me to showcase my vocals on his stage in the 90's. I had to cancel one of my performances in 1996 because of some emotional struggles I was having at the time, and just didnt feel up to it. Johnnie called me at home the next day and said "James, we had you scheduled to lead off for Leann Rimes", and I told him that if I would have known that I would have tried to do it anyway. Johnnie you were a great man with and incredible vision and desire to help others succeed, whom we all will always appreciate and miss!

Wanda,Luann, and Ashley, Our family was very saddened to hear about Johnnie's passing. Wanda, you and Johnnie were so gracious to take Seth into your home for those weeks during the Christmas show. You'll never know how many memories were made from all those road trips to Arlington every weekend, and all the fun times had. Johnnie was much more of a legend than he probably ever realized. Once in a lifetime do people come into our lives that give totally of themselves, and truly enjoy doing it. He was such a John Wayne, and Seth and I have spoken of him, and those days often. You are in our prayers, and please have some measure of peace knowing what a legacy he left.
March 18, 2010
Wanda and Luann, My deepest sympaty goes out to you and your family. I remember the days of the Grapevine Opry and going every Saturday night. Johnnie was a special person, always taking the time to stop and say hello. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I CAN'T BELIEVE JOHNNIE HIGH IS GONE. I'VE ALWAYS HEARD ABOUT HIM EVER SINCE I WAS A CHILD. HE WAS A MUSICAL HERO AND AN ICON. I REMEBER ONE OF THE TALENTS HE HAD ON HIS SHOW, TOO WAS CHISA CHILDS. DON'T THINK I SPELLED HER NAME RIGHT, BUT HER ROUTINE OF DOING "AHAB THE ARAB" ON HIS SHOW WAS A RIOT. I'LL MISS HIM, HE WAS AN ORIGINAL!

I was attending college at TCU when I first saw The Johnnie High Show. I was working my way through school as a DJ at KXOL, and Johnnie was so kind and encouraging to me. Thirty+ years later, and I'm still involved in country music--as a producer, writer and journalist in Nashville, TN...and I hope I still do my job with the same PASSION that Johnnie always did his job...with a smile on my lips and a song in my heart. Johnnie will be missed.

I was a member of one of the first southern gospel quartets to perform at The Grapevine Opry, The All-Star Quartet, and just wanted to say it was a privilege and honor to be able to say we performed on one of Johnny's shows. He was truly a legend in the country/gospel arena and will be greatly missed. May God give his many friends and family strength during this time of grief. I know he's already putting together his next show for all the saints in Heaven!

Death leaves a heartache that no one can heal. Love leaves a warmth that no one can steal...Johnnie's passing into the arms of his Lord and Savior has left many people with heartaches. The love that Johnnie showed everyone leaves the warmth that softens the heartache. My Prayers go to Wanda, Louann and Ashley. Johnny will always be there in our minds and heart smiling down on us from his Glorious throne.

In the summer of 1992 my car broke down on the Loop 820 access road. It was well over 100 degrees and several years before cell phones were commonplace. The nicest gentleman stopped and offered assistance. He insisted my daughter and I sit with his wife in his air conditioned car while he did everything possible to get me back on the road (ruining a shirt in the process). Truly a good samaritan. When I offered to reimburse him for the gasoline he bought, he declined but said I could repay him by coming to his show sometime and handed me a brochure. I don't know much about country music, but I recognize good people. I'll always be grateful for Mr. and Mrs. High's kindness on that day.
March 18, 2010
Dear Wanda: You and your family are in my prayers. I was thinking about you two last weekend and wondering how you were doing. Johnnie was a wonderful and generous man. He will be missed by many, many people. love, Sue Franks

Wanda, Luanne, and Ashley, sending my love and my deepest sympathies. I was given a great blessing from God for having Luanne as a friend and for knowing Wanda & Johnnie. The memories are flooding back - the days at the Old Grapevine Opry & at Will Rogers Coliseum; my first husband, Bob Monaco, who was a member of the gospel group Daybreak who performed many times at the Grapevine Opry & Will Rogers; the street dance; the narrow stairs and tiny dressing room at the Grapevine Opry and so many others. For Luanne: "Gee, your hair smells terrific!" Johnnie was an incredibly talented and gracious and giving person. May God's Grace and Peace be with you all.
March 18, 2010
Johnny was one of the most unselfish men I know. All he ever wanted was to help others achieve thier stardom. I have respected Johnny. He created more happiness for more people then we will ever know. He will be sorely missed

Heaven just received one more Angel!

My husband and I went to a few of the shows which we really enjoyed! He was a truely remarkable man. My grandmother worked and volunteered up there for years (Mary Harper). You are all in my prayers...Always remember he is never really gone but all around when the lights on the stage light up and the music starts...

Dear Wanda and LuAnn,

I am so deeply sad to know that Johnnie has passed. I will never forget our Tuesday night fun and him taking me to school in his convertable on Wednesday mornings with a load of Jergins lotion in the back seat. He treated me as his own. LuAnn, you and I were always the beat of friends and Wanda, you were like a second mother to me. Johnnie has always had a special place in my heart and always will, as well as the both of you. My prayers are with you and may God be in your presence during this journey. I love you all!

I send my deepest sympathy to Johnnie's family and friends. My late husband, Bob and I were great fans of Johnnie and Wanda. We attended many of his shows and my husband so enjoyed driving Johnnie and the members of his show to various locations while with Dan Dipert coaches. We actually saw our first Johnnie High Show in Grapevine and followed him thru the years and after he found his dream venue in Arlington. Johnnie will be greatly missed in our community.
Thanks , Johnnie for all the good music.
March 18, 2010
My heart is overwelmed with sadness at the loss of such a great man. I have known Johnnie for 21 out of my 28 years of life. I am proud to have known him and called him my friend. I know without a doubt that I wouldn't be the person I am today if it weren't for him. I spent most of my life on his stage. The first time he ever heard me sing, I was 6 years old singing a Celine Dion song at Casa Manana. He was there with Margaret Ray to hear LeAnn. He said, "Hillary has a great voice, but I don't think country music is where she belongs." I am proud to say that I proved him wrong and spent over 10 years as a regular on his show. I love you Johnnie and I know you and Paulette are putting on one heck of a show in Heaven!
March 18, 2010
Johnnie High! What all couldn't i say about this man! He gave me, and thousands of other people their very own stardom at the Revue and he was just all around a fabulous man. You will be missed sooo much Johnnie!
March 18, 2010
I had the honor and privelege to twice perform on Johnnie's show. A great showman and gentleman, he will surely be missed. He was a blessing to many local entertainers, giving them their chance in the limelight! I will forever be grateful for the opportunity. My family's prayers are with him and his family.

March 18, 2010
I used to sing in a southern gospel group called 3 in One several years ago and I really loved Johnnie very much. He was always a wonderful person inside and out and truly cared about people. So professional in all that he did. I know I will see Johnie again, next time on those streets made of gold. May The Father richly bless the family and friends of Johnnie High in this time. See you on the other side Johnnie!
March 18, 2010
He was a sweet and wonderful man and neighbor when we lived in Colleyville back in the early 1970s. My brother, Kevin, was in Luanne's class at school. When I turned 18, I was invited onstage with him at the Grapevine Opry where he sang "Happy Birthday" to me. It was very special. A few years later, I accompanied R. Binion on that same stage. Very nice memories. GOD bless you, Wanda, Luanne and Ashley. I know your heart has a large hole now but may you find peace and comfort in our LORD Jesus.

Johnnie was a very unique man he will be missed
March 18, 2010
There are so many things I wish I could say to Johnnie now. I feel as if I never really showed him the amount of gratitude he deserved. Johnnie did more for me and my music career than almost anyone else I have encountered in my nineteen years of chasing a dream. And to think that I was only one of so very many on whom Johnnie had a tremendous impact. Not only did he give artists like myself the invaluable opportunity of performing with a live, (extremely talented), band, he was an encourager, a friend, and a source of endless wisdom when it came to the business he loved so much. I am so very thankful for the years that I knew Johnnie and all of the wonderful family and friends that made the country music revue possible. I only wish I had known him longer. Johnnie, you have left an incredible legacy and you will be missed greatly.
March 18, 2010
I was so sad to learn of his passing from the newspaper today. It's truly the end of an era. We started attending the shows back in the 80's. When I think of the wonderful talent he assembled--Blackie Guidry, Chisolm, Joey and Jill, The Shoppe, The Brooks Brothers, Gloria Gilbert, The Texas Playboys, even Larry Gatlin popped in one night, I don't know how he did it. We had such great times over the years attending his shows. He certainly leaves a big hole in the industry. Our condolences to the family.
March 18, 2010
We have been attending Johnnies show in Arlington for 22 years. and we drive an hr each way from Decatur. It meant that much to us. We got our CMR fix every week. He was a unique talent. always could talk his way through anything and make people feel better. And Wanda was there to back up all the ideas & promises he made from the stage. We love you all. The Lord worked it out so that Johnnie was kept away from the show slowly so the show could operate without him, and they did now everyone knows it can go on . Johnnie's example will reign. Heaven was glad to have him.
The legacy he left will live on.

I was fortunate to be on many of the shows over the years in spite of the fact that I stood on stage using my crutches. A polio survivor who Johnnie encouraged. He believed in me and therefore I believed in me too. His show is the most professional and taught me a lot about how the pros do it. My condolences to Wanda and the family. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

The Man will be missed. He has given artist a place to show off their talent. He has put on a great show for many years. Rest in Heaven in God's arms.
March 18, 2010
Johnnie,
Thank you for letting me work for your 'baby' back in 2001-2002. Being my first job, it helped me become that hard working young adult, that I now impose amongst my subordinates in the Air Force. I also thank you for allowing me the chance to be involved with the behind the scenes aspect of the show, it showed me how much work is done by your staff and performers to bring shows together.

You will be missed by countless individuals you've come in contact with, especially the ones you've helped launch successful careers. May God continue to bless your family during this difficult time, may he allow continued success of your Country Music Revue.

Johnnie High contributed much to the music industry and Masonry in Tarrant County. He was a great supporter of the Masonic Home and sponsored several benefits for the children who lived there. Brother High was an inspiration to those of us who knew and respected him for the man he was.
The world will be a dimmer place by his passing.

Mr. High was a special Christian man and a great entertainer.
He gave many young people a jump-start to careers.
My Granddaughter, Meaghan Brown, was so excited to sing on his review several years ago.
May God bless his family and keep his memory alive in their hearts.

I grew up in Arlington. Mr High's revue was a source of entertainment for my parents for many years before they passed away. I was even allowed to perform in a show with a local group about ten years ago. Mr. High was a true gentleman and gave of himself every day to all people about the subject he truly loved, Country Music. My sympathy to the family and to the thousands of people he touched and encouraged through the years.

I was very sorry to learn of Johnnie's death. We worked together for many years at the old Grapevine Opry and were the best of "sidekicks". He was a great entertainer and my sincerest condolences to Wanda and his children.

Johnnie will wow them up yonder with his class and charm. What a gentlemen he was. I first met him through the introduction of Kevin Bailey, one of his longtime friends and inhouse musicians. Johnnie said..."Well, any friend of Kevins is a friend of mine." He will be missed by many. Thank you Johnnie for a job well done.

I was lucky enough to be invited to sing in his shows twice in my early teen years, and it has been and always will be a highlight in my life. Thank you Johnnie for creating a place for people to come and express their art, and live a dream. You will be very missed, but not forgotten.

We will always be thankful to Johnnie (and Wanda) for letting our sons work at the music hall and for his friendship over the past 10 years. Our sons saw and learned the great work ethic and Christian values of Johnnie and his friendship of everyone involved in the shows- from the lighting people to the concession people to the singers and band. We'll sure miss him but know that God will have him setting up shows in heaven with Johnny Cash, Elvis, and the others up there. Love ya, Johnnie.

Johnnie High supported the dreams of many, many up and coming singers and, in my case, fiddle players...and encouraged us to pursue our dreams. With his sweet spirit and smile that would light up a room, he was a wonderful man and a wonderful friend. Thank you, Johnnie, for all you have done for so many of us...you changed many lives with your love of music! My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Words just cannot adequately express the pain in my heart at the loss of Johnnie High. My prayers go out to Wanda, LuAnne and Ashley, and the entire CMR family during this most difficult period in their lives. I'm so very sorry for your loss. Johnnie High was a great man. Johnnie taught me and many others what it means to experience true joy onstage. The desire to perform he instilled in me as a teenager would've faded long ago if not for his wisdom and encouragement throught the years. Johnnie High, I love you and will miss you. You changed the course of my life and I am forever grateful.

Our kids grew up behind the scenes and, thanks to Johnnie, on the stage. His influence inspired our kids to expand their vocal horizons & become more--just like he did for countless others. He will be missed!

Was proud to call Johnnie a friend. You couldn't ask for a nicer man to know. Kind to everyone, he loved seeing young people succeed. They just don't them like Johnnie any more. I can only hope to live my life as honestly and as good as he did. What a great example!
