Ouida there is not a day that passes that you are not thought of. Living here in your home has become the one of greatest joys of my life. Wyatt wakes up at night, will go and get a snack and just hang out. But I know he is not alone, you and Papa Pete are keeping him company. I always thought you were slightly crazy to have all of these windows with no curtains but guess what I get it :) always surrounded by the beauty of this wonderful piece of land. So there are still no curtains and not sure if there ever will be :) I believe us purchasing your and Papa Pete's homestead was just the completion of the circle and was always meant to be. We fill your home with love and laughter like you always wanted. I still greet the boys with a 'Good Morning!! Good morning!!!', when I wake then up in the mornings. Your passing has created a hole in the Peterson family that I hope one day will be mended. You were the glue that held us together and now that you are gone we are lost. I hope you and Papa Pete are proud of what Wesley, the boys and I have created here at The Middle Age Spread. We see it as an honor to continue our family's legacy here on this place that y'all called your home till you left this earth. Till we see you again, I love you and miss you greatly. By the way, there are still days I walk in the door and it still smells of you and then I know you are still with us.
~Your loving granddaughter
Ouida would have made ACA very entertaining! Sure miss that special lady!
Ouida, we really need you here now to help us wade through all the ACA legislation and regulations. You continue to be missed and you are the subject of many, many fond conversations. Love, Shirley
I have read the guest book once again, and, with all of you, I still miss her very much!! I know she is smiling down on the place, because Wesley, Sunni Hope, and their 2 precious boys have made the place their own, and have done a lot of the things you wanted to do yourself. The cows are gone, but there are many goats, and Sunni is a good little farm wife, even makes cheese!!! The boys love being close to Nana and Pappa G, and they all work together. Its really nice to see. We all still miss your smiling face, and love you very much!!!Waiting til we meet again.
She was simple the very best.
I am just now learning of Ouida's death. I decided to look her up on Facebook tonight and this is what I found instead. Very sad indeed. What a great loss for all of those fortunate enough to know her. She was not only an inspiration but "the" funniest woman I have ever had the privilege to know (and to work & travel with). Dearest Ouida, I'm sure you are keeping the angels in smiles.
Thanks, Pamela, for keeping this open for us all. Ouida is sorely missed and reading the messages about how she affected others is special. There are so many times when I am reminded of her loss - especially in January when she normally spoke to our DAHU members about COBRA - she had such a talent to make it entertaining and could hold our attention like no other! Wishes for her expertise is mentioned often on the TAHU Cafe! It was a pleasure and honor to call her a friend! Our many visits during conferences and meetings were memorable. I loved hearing about her family and her garden! I, too, miss her bubbly personality and the love she showed for everybody she met!
Knowing and loving Ouida is a blessing and I too think of her often. There will never be another like her and I am sure all who knew and loved her will never forget her. I know I won't a picture of her is on my mantle because I was honored to have received my Hollis award with her. It will always remain in a place where I can see her smiling face.
Thank you Wanda Spears for your kind words & thoughts of Ouida! There's a great family loss for my family & a giant hole that will never be filled by anyone else like her! We have such vivid memories of her & her Love for Stephen, myself, her grand kids & great grands too! Thank you for Loving her as we did! Life is not the same w/o her & never will be again. Love & hugs always to our friend!
Ouida is always in my heart. Just yesterday I was on an enrollment and found myself telling another agent about how special she was and what a loss to so many. Such a blessing to all who knew her.
Ouida, I thought of you today and my heart smiled. As I have said so many times, you hold a very special place in our hearts. You sit there permanently. Never forgotten and always loved.
March is quickly approaching and I find myself remembering our dear Ouida. Every year Ouida, Jane Smith and I would plan her trip to California to do our semi-annual road trip. COBRA updates were always a highlight for our Northern California brokers. January and February would find the three of us sharing emails about the meetings we would plan all over Northern California. We would usually start our first week in Fresno then quickly pack the cars and travel on to Modesto. Finally ending in Sacramento. Ouida would fly home for the weekend and we would start the following week above the Golden Gate Bridge in San Rafael. We would again frantically pack up and travel to Concord and then on to our final destination in San Jose.
She was always full of energy and life. Making our brokers laugh while educating them. The evenings would find us laughing and caching up on our personal lives. She, always telling us about her wonderful family! Her family was her anhor. Jane and I felt we knew everyone personally.
Putting her on the plane was always difficult because we knew we would have to wait until October to see her again.
The one thing I remember is that great big smile and her even bigger heart. She would always remind me to "stop wearing those patent leather high heels" (as the doctor suggested), and add "Yeah, like THAT is goingto happen!" Then give me a big old hug and whisper "take care of Ralph for me. He is certainly THE special one God has given you."
And off she would fly. On to her next city and another adoring crowd!
I felt compelled to post today when she crossed my mind. Touching my heart from that special place she sits. (as she always will.) I blieve March is the beginning of re-birth with the trees starting to bloom and the daffodils here in Northern California starting to peek through after a long winter. We don't need a re-birth of memories with Ouida, our Earth Angel, because she will continue to peep through our hearts forever. I know for Ralph and I she is firmly planted in our lives and heaarts forever.
I want her family to know we continue to think of her often and send our lovig thoughts their way.
In loving memory,
Who would have believed a year has passed without you in our lives? I have read the entries in your guest book. I know there is nothing extra that has not been said, but I felt compelled to tell you in my own way how very much you are missed.
I know how difficult it must be for your mother and the rest of your family to read the entries in this guest book which is a beautiful tribute to you and your wonderful giving ways. I am sure it has made them cry but also sure it has brought them laugther. I know for myself, just reading the entries and which mentioned some of your wonderful expressions brought a smile to my heart. I can still hear you saying when I told you how much we apreciated your giving of your time and energy at 100% the way you always did "Aw shucks, it ain't nothin any of y'all wouldn't have done. No big deal!" I am here to tell you that you were (and still are) a very big deal!
The tears and laughter are a tribute to your life and how you chose to live it. I have always referred to you as an Earth Angel! God sends his Earth Angels to us on loan for a while to spread love and joy and happiness. To reach out and touch our lives in too many ways to count. We thank God for loaning you to us. I know you and Pete are looking down on your Middle Aged Spread and still smiling. Just as I am convinced you are looking down on all of us. Still making us smile remembering your love and kindness, never expecting anything in return.
How very much like you!
Thank you dear Earth Angel for continuing to still give freely of yourself. I have carved out a special little place in my heart where you will continue to reside
All my love,
I can't believe it has been a year without Ouida. In our office we still talk about her and agree that there will never be another Ouida.
Gayle = Houston, TX
It is good to hear that Ouida's Mother and Aunts spent time remembering Ouida with old stories and laughter. Her spirit continues to be a blessing to everyone who had the priviledge to know her. Her spirit continues to live in us all. Hope your holidays are a little more special, as is mine, because we knew her.
My sweet Ouida,
I will miss you until I come to be with you again. You had such a loving spirit. Bob and I always enjoyed visiting with you. Bruce and David, were so proud to call you cuz. I am so thankful you chose my family to belong to. Love, Sue

It was just the other day, that I thought of Ouida and her family. I pray that you all are coping with the loss. I know I still want to pick up my phone, or email her asking her questions regarding COBRA, etc. I miss her so much, as she was a great "encyclopedia" I could always turn to, and she was always there! Thank you Ouida!
The family would like to thank everyone who signed Ouida's guest book. We have read all 67 pages of tributes, from all parts of the earth. It has helped us get through some difficult times, and has been a comfort to her Mother. Thanks to all, once again. The Family of Ouida Finch Peterson
Ouida touched everyone she met. She was a woman of many distinguished characteristics but I loved her laughter, knowledge and kind heart. I feel blessed to have known her and I feel extremely special to say she was my friend.
There are not enough words. To come close to describe Ouida is something I can not do. To be able to give back 1/2 of what she gave, would be a lifetime goal.
Quida was a radiant beacon of light, teaching us how we should treat others, how we should enjoy life to the fullest, and how to be the best person we can be. She touched the lives of many people, and will forever be missed. Thank you dear Quida for your friendship…..
Ouida had a way of making everyone feel welcome and special. She was so warm and easy to talk to. I always enjoyed her stories about her family. She will be missed!
Ouida was an amazing woman and a tremendous asset to all of us in the health insurance industry...she will be sorely missed.
I first met Ouida at a Rotary Luncheon in Beaumont in 2000 where she and I were both speaking. From that day on I counted her as a good friend and always looked forward to seeing her. I'll miss her a great deal.
Ouida would meet you once and make you feel like you were the most special person in the room. She did not only educate us, but enriched our lives. You cannot speak of Ouida with out smiling or outright laughing. Even while she was teaching us life lessons on COBRA (UGH) - her storytelling made her lessons memorable and unforgettable - just as she is. She gave of herself endlessly and blessed all of us who were lucky enough to know her. Ouida will live in our hearts forever.
Ouida just made me and everyone around her feel Good! I will miss her smile and quick wit.
Ouida was one of a kind. She was always smiling and laughing at every event that I attended. She knew how to take a complex topic and turn it into something fun. She was full of life and enjoyed each day filled with love. She will be missed greatly by all. She has touched many many lives though the years. I was blessed to hear her play amazing grace at the last CE in Lubbock. Ouida was WOW. Thank you for sharing her with our industry. CE will never be the same.
Quida was a very special person and friend to all that knew her. She had a unique sense of humor and you could feel her love in everything she did. I will miss her greatly and know that she is telling God about all about COBRA!
Tina Durand, Corpus Christi
Quida was an industry ambassador, educator and welcome wagon all wrapped up into one very warm, funny and personable ball of energy. She was a beautiful person and I always found her a joy to be with.
Ouida was one of the lights of my life. Always positive, fun, funny, and great to be around. She was a great friend to me and to the insurance industry as a whole. She will be greatly missed. Her faith was strong, and we know she was not alone when she died. God bless her.
Ouida was a "go to friend". She was always willing to listen and offer help if needed. Her positive attitude and her caring and kindness to other people, whether strangers, friends or family, always motivated me to be a better person. I'm so blessed to have seen her in October to catch up and talk cookbooks, one of her favorite hobbies. Many of my wonderful memories are of traveling with Ouida for business and pleasure. She'll be missed by all who knew her and those who didn't have the opportunity.
Ouida was a delight to anyone who met her. Her love of life and sense of humor made everyone feel comfortable and right at home. Ouida will be missed by the many who loved her and the many who learned from her easy manner of explaining difficult topics. I have no doubt that she has the angels laughing now.
I was less fortunate than many, having known Ouida for only 5 years. My first experience was sitting next to her at dinner and enjoying 3 hours of her wonderful stories. The next day I was treated to 3 hours of CE on a subject only Ouida could make fun; Cobra/HIPPA. East Texas AHU will miss her annual visits, her knowledge and her friendship. God Bless
Ouida was a great story teller. I did not see her often, but I always looked forward to her humor, her love of family, and her entertaining stories of church, food, dominoes, family, etc. She was a sweet, loving and funny gal that will be missed by all that knew her.
- Lynda Roten
Ouida always took the time to greet everybody personally. She made each and every person that she met feel special. In my mind, she was the very special person who took the time to make me feel good. Everyone wanted to be her friend, and everyone she met was a friend of hers. She was the only person I know who could make a difficult or technical insurance seminar fun and fresh. Her Texas-isms were uniquely Ouida's own and I never tired of listening to her speak. She helped us learn to watch out for the small details and to ask the right questions; she taught us to be more competent and knowledgeable. She was an expert in compliance and made the particulars come alive with personal - but anonymous! - stories. Who am I going to call or email now when I have a difficult question? No one will be able to possibly fill her shoes. Truly, the mold was broken when Ouida was made. I was blessed to have known her and blessed that I had the opportunity to listen to her seminars for so many years. We will all miss her... but we know she is in heaven with Pete in their ranch in the sky, smiling and laughing with her always sunny and real "attitude".
Ouida was unpretentous, outgoing, very intelligent, comfortable with all and an incredible example of great success when you put one foot in front of the other and own every step of your journey. Her friends and her industry will greatly miss her.
Beth Ashmore Lubbock, Tx
Ouida was full of wisdom, which she generously shared with all of us over the years, helping enhance our knowledge of the intricacies of health insurance. Equally, or even more important, she taught us that everything can be fun. She was an inspiration to all who knew her, and even some who didn't. I know she and her beloved Pete are having a great good time herding Heaven's cattle.
Ouida's smile, jokes, knowledge, personality and influence will live on forever. I met Ouida probably 20 years ago and remember all the fun times we had at insurance events, board meetings and traveling. She was an awesome mentor and teacher that made it easy to learn with her story telling. She always was willing to give of her time and expertise to all that asked. I still can't believe you are gone. I miss you, Ouida! God must have needed you up there! May God bless your family.
Ouida's light will continue to shine here long after she is gone. She had that effect on everyone she met. It was a blessing having had the opportunity to know her and to call her my "friend". She is a treasure and I just know that she is at a piano making some music...raising the rafters with praise and I am sure making someone laugh out loud!!!
I fell in love with Ouida the first time I met her and never changed my mind through the years. She never failed to bring a smile to the face of anyone near her. I shall miss her always and never hear COBRA without thinking of her.
Bobby and I had the honor of having dinner with Ouida the night before her last CE presentation in Lubbock. We have been friends for many years and spent time telling old stories and laughing. Ouida was a wonderful person and we miss her deeply. Thank you for sharing your family member with her TAHU family.
Ouida was a wonderful friend and collegue. She will be truly missed.
She left us way too soon. But I know her light is shining way bright up there! Always willing to offer advice and intelligent input regarding insurance and COBRA matters, Ouida always made us think harder about the issues and encouraged us to always ask more questions before answering. I think that must be her legacy now....don't answer too quickly and keep asking more questions! We all in the insurance industry will forever miss her quick wit, jovial attitude and smiling face.....
What a wonderful life she shared with us. I've known Ouida since her days at Blue Cross. She managed to deliver technical information with such confidence and humor, you couldn't help but love her!
This world was a much better place because of a special friend named Ouida. I first met her while working at BCBSTX and the friendship began...God broke the mold when he made her, so full of life, laughter, love, knowledge, integrity, guts, grit and truth! She was known throughout the country as the COBRA expert...so many lessons we can learn from her time on earth. Heaven is now rejoicing! We love and miss you girl!
When I first heard of Ouida's death, I was immediately overwhelmed by the huge loss ... to the insurance industry, the HR community, the Texas Association of Health Underwriters, and to me, personally, as a friend. I am honored to be among the many that considered Ouida to be a friend, and will miss her sunny, smiling face, quick wit, and knowledge beyond words.
A deep loss for all of us in the Texas Association of Health Underwriters (TAHU).
She was a wonderful mentor to so many. Being with Ouida brought so much joy and laughter. I know she is with Pete now, but our lives are a little emptier.
I was very sad to learn of Ouida's passing. I attended several of her COBRA seminars and always found her to be entertaining despite the difficult subject matter. Her contributions to the HR community are incomparable and she will be greatly missed.
Ouda was always there for us whenever. When we started our company in 1996 Ouida was instrumental in our growth ans success. I had the privilege of knowing Ouida from her first years a Blue Cross, a rare individual and dear friend.
Terry Sellers The Woodlands, Tx
Ouida has been in my heart for 35+ years and will remain there until I join her in heaven.
Lois Doan (Plano, TX)
Being Ouida's friend for over 31 years is one of God's greatest blessings. She had so many God given talents. She did let her light so shine. Her love, joy, knowledge, support, laughter and steadfastness will be missed every day. But knowing that she lived life to it's fullest, was a contributor and a giver everyday and is now with her God singing praises forever is comforting and inspirational. We can all only hope to be a better friend to each other. Go out and have a "Ouida Day". She will live in my heart forever. May God walk close to all of us as our hearts mourn her loss.
While Ouida was with out question, the best COBRA expert in the country, those of us lucky enough to have known and worked with Ouida personally, know the true meaning of love, grace and devotion to God and her friends. I had the pleasure of working with Ouida at BCBSTX for many years and became fast friends with she and Pete. I remember their many visits to our home and meals we shared. The parties we had and watching she and Pete dance to the wonderful Texas music. They were meant to be together and once more, they are. Ouida brightened my life. You couldn't help coming away from talking to Ouida, a little happier and alot smarter. Smarter about life and living. She lived life to the fullest and she shared that with her friends and colleagues each and evey day. As Wanda Spears has said to me since Ouida's passing, go out and make it a "Ouida Day"! God bless you Ouida and thank you for blessing each of us with your wit, wisdom, love and dedication to God and your family.
Ouida and I worked together at Blue Cross for many years. She was truly a blessing sent from above. She never met a stranger and was the kindest, caring and most sincere individual you could ever know. As you can see from all of the entries and tributes, she touched everyone she came in contact with. She will be missed, but not forgotten. I am sure she is entertaining the Angels!
How blessed we are to have known such a remarkable person as Ouida. She was truly one of a kind. Her laughter and humor was infectious. When Ouida made a friend, it would be unconditionally, forever. Prayers go out to her family, especially her mother. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
The biggest smile, greatly missed, loved forever!!
The biggest smile, greatly missed, loved forever!!
I was very saddened by the sudden loss, the news was such a shock. Ouida was my sisters mother in law and my brother in laws, step mother. I knew her before her and Pete even married. Afte they married, she always treated Mike & i as if we were her family. She was so witty, funny & genuinely kind. she loved to play the piano & always opened her home to everyone, including me. I will miss her smiling face, and her-hello, hello comment when she saw me. My heart goes out to all of her loved ones I pray your pain is eased by knowing she's with pete & other loved ones in paradise. she will be greatly missed.
I know you are in a better place and maybe someday I will get over the ache of not hearing your jokes or trying the results of the new recipe you found, or singing with you playing the piano. You were special from the day you were born to the last breath you took. Grandma Reasoner and Mama loved you so much. You added the very thing we needed to our lives with your positive attitude and sense of humor. I know you are visiting with Pete, Edna, and your Dad, and all those other loved ones. I thank G-d that you were part of my family. I hope to see you again someday.
You are treasured, you are sacred and you are missed...we love and miss you dearly!
I just heard this very sad news and am so sorry! Ouida touched so many people with her wit and humor. As many of her fans have already written, Ouida's was quite the entertainer and had a way of teaching people about the most complicated benefit laws that you could remember. She would always tell people her cell# and email address and encouraged us to let her know if we ever had questions. I sent her several emails over the years and was amazed that she really did answer them. Ouida really liked hearing about the sticky situations; she said they may some of the best stories during her training sessions "she didn't have to make stuff up"! She could turn a room on it's head with laughter. I will miss her kindness.
I am drawing on sixty years of sweet memories that we shared, so much goodness and joy. That old song, Brighten the Corner Where You Are...you did that with such a flair and your love of life was so obvious. I believe that you are in heaven creating that same kind of joy.
A few days ago, we celebrated Mayo Christmas. You were right there with us in spirit, as we sang the beautiful songs of Jesus' birth. Attitude is Everything..and our attitude will be, we lift our voices in praise of our Savior, and for the priviledge of having walked in the world with you by our side. Until we meet again...Pam (McQueary), Aunt
My dear niece, you brought joy into our lives, and we will forever be grateful for that. Your smile, your laid-back attitude is something we shall not ever forget. As I look back on your life, from birth to death, I remember all the good times we always had, even the time I scared you when I baby-sat you. You were the apple of your fathers eye, no doubt about it. We shall strive to make the way easier for your Mother, and do for her what we can, but just know this, your departure left a huuuuuge hole in our hearts, that shall never be filled in this lifetime. RIP, dear one, and we will meet again, someday. Wanda Thornton(Auntie)
Ouida was one of a kind. Her was always smiling. What I know about Cobra, Ouida was responsible for putting it there. She had a lot of great sayings. The one I loved the best was "build a bridge". I will miss her very much.
Ouida was a remarkable person and is missed by many. What a testatment it is to Ouida to have so many people, from so many different places, say such wonderful things about her.
I always enjoyed Quida's presentations, she could make the dullest subject fun and she will be missed by all who were lucky enough to have known her.
Dan O'Brien(San Diego-Santee CA)
I had the privilege of attending several lectures by Ouida and I will always remember her humor, loving personality and wonderful pictures. She was truely a great person and apleasure to have been associated with.
Joan Rette, Broker - Mission Viejo, CA
What a lovely and lively lady Ouida was! She had a beautiful spark in her, the gentleness of a Southern lady, and she was always so helpful with all the knowledge that she held. I will miss her teaching us about the Cobra ins and outs because she made a drab subject come alive with her wit and humor. She will be greatly missed. May God bless you at this sad time. I am praying for the family. Marcia Cotter (Murrieta, CA)
I only met Ouida once but those who know her know it only takes one meeting to fall in love with Ouida. She was a rare combination of humor, expertise, and compassion. Her seminar was so memorable – she actually made COBRA comprehensible. I remember her telling us a story about how she taught her dogs to howl every time she said “COBRA”! It was all I could do to keep from rolling on the floor. I was so looking forward to our second meeting next spring. Oh well I guess I'll just have to wait a little longer than I thought. :) Goodbye Ouida, you will be greatly missed. We love you!
I had the honor of knowing Ouida and the awesome experience of working with her twice a year in Northern California for the past 5 years. There is no one I know who can hold a candle to the way she presented and conducted her seminars. She made you laugh, think and feel truly smarter after every one of them. But what was most important to me was how she made you feel as a person. She was the most loving and non judgemental person I've known. We spent hours talking about family, life and politics, she never made you feel like you had to defend your position or beliefs, she just accepted them as yours. I am so fortunate to have recently spent 6 days with her during her last speaking tour in N. California. My sympathy and condolences to her family. Thank you Ouida for your unconditional love, truly a remarkable person, rest in peace.
•We are deeply sorry to hear about the death of Ouida Peterson.
Wastech Controls and Engineering, Inc.
I attended Ouida's sessions many times and always learned something. She was a great teacher and lecturer and will be missed at conferences for years to come. I will miss hearing her talk about benefits!
I'm still in shock. Ms. Ouida and I were emailing back and forth on the Monday before her passing. I absolutely enjoyed her seminars and trusted her judgement 150%. She will be missed dearly even by those of us who only communicated with her a couple times of year. She left some big shoes to fill. She was so knowledgeable. Rest in peace, Ms. Ouida. I'm glad I got to meet you.
Wow, this still hits me every time I see a reminder. Ouida was such a special person who had the ability to make you want to learn. I always enjoyed her seminars and she will be greatly missed.
Ouida could make COBRA actually understandable and funny. She had that rare quality of mixing her dry Texas humor with equally dry facts to create a seminar that was unique. I will miss her very much.
I had the honor of calling Ouida my friend. We spent COUNTLESS hours together, traveling to various seminars and tradeshows. Our relationship quickly developed from co-workers to that of an aunt and niece. I wish I had enough space to write about all of the wonderful memories, the laughs and tears we shared. From freezing in the rain drinking Shiner Bock beer at the Texas State Fair to making so many potty stops up and down Highway 99 in California we truly enjoyed one another's company. She was one of the greatest people I've ever been blessed to know. She will forever live on in my heart. And as I get dressed every morning I can still hear her say, "Remember ladies, lift and separate!"
The photo I'm sharing is of Ouida's very first In-N-Out Double, Double. We Californians talked so much about them that she finally had to have one. I had the great pleasure of buying her her first (and maybe only) one.
I will always treasure you my dear friend.
I'm so sorry for your loss. She will be missed. She was a great mentor. i loved her!
I'm so sorry for you loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Ouida had a zest for life that came across in her presentations on some of the driest of topics. I am thankful I was able to meet her and hear her speak a few times in Colorado Springs. She will be missed.
I know Ouida from attending her seminars, and being around her was like visiting a dear friend! She was always a breath of fresh air, and I loved talking to her about her ranch. She infected us with her joy and humor, and her influence is enbedded in my heart. My condolences are with you for your loss.
As I read the entries in Ouida'a guest book, I thought how much she would have loved to know about all the friends she has made over the years. But somehow I know she is looking down from heaven and smiling on all of us. I loved her dearly. She was not only a co-worker, she was a dear friend. We traveled together when she came to Northern CA to speak at our seminars. She was truly an earth angel. She loved her God, her family and her friends. She will be forever missed but not forgotten. We all have so many wonderful memories of her laughter, her love and her kindness. Go with God dear friend and may you rest in peace. Our condolences to her mother who she loved and talked so much about, and to her family who we all feel we know from her many stories over the years. Goodbye to our Texas Rose!
With many warm memories,
Jan & Ralph Mesa
Im very sorry for your loss, she will be missed!!!!!!!
She will be missed, really enjoyed her education to our Insurance seminars. She made a bored room come to life, it will be very hard to replace her speaking nd love for life. So sorry for your loss.
Quida made me laugh while I learned. That doesn't happen often enough in our business. Usually after about 10 minutes into her seminars, I realized I was not as smart as I thought and it was good to be learning something practical I would use with clients. You will be missed!
Quida had such an obvious zest for life. She could lift your spirit just by entering a room. I did not know her on a personal side which is my loss. But I did hear her speak a few times and I have repeated (many times) her comment....."do you you know what the plural is for y'all??? .....it's All y'all :-) I have family in the south that smiled when I told them this! It brought a tear to my eyes to hear of her death.....but she left a solid impression on everyone she met. I thank her for all she left behind....we will see her on the other side.
I two have attended her seminars over the years and she took a really boring subject and brought it to life.. She will surely be missed... I was sorry to hear about her passing, may her family know they were blessed by a very special person.. God Bless all the family..
I am very sorry for your loss. She was a beautiful woman. I didn't know her personally but the comments that i have received from Humana, makes her sound exceptional!!! Lillie Lutrick-Lutrick Insurance
The agents in our office are extremely sorry to hear of Ouida's passing.
She was one of the best educators in the insurance business. We always looked forward to her seminars on COBRA. We always learned a lot and had a great time. She was a great lady and will
be missed by all who knew her. A REALLY SAD DAY!

Ouida was such a blessing to be around! I had the privilege to meet her in 2001, at a NAHU convention. We all loved her so much that we wanted her to talk about COBRA at all of our JAHU events. She always made a very boring topic seem so interesting at our Symposiums and seminars haha! No one could relay the message like Ouida! She was also a mentor and special lady to me. She will be missed. Prayers for the family during this time. I'm thankful that we know there is another Angel in Heaven smiling down on us!!! :)
How fortunate we all are to have known such a great lady. What an inspiration she was to our industry, setting the standard for excellence. I will certainly miss her wit and positive attitude. I can't imagine anyone will ever be able to fill her shoes. She will be greatly missed.

You were my inspiration and you set the path for my career. When you told me I should take the job at Protective rather than join you...it created a life-changing event in my life. You've always been a mentor, a leader and above all else a friend. When I look to stars in the sky, I'll say a prayer and know that you'll always be there.
May ALLMIGHTY Bless her soul & give the remaining family strength to bear the loss.

It is rare when you go to a seminar and hear someone present that you will never forget. Ouida is someone I will never forget. She had a great sense of humor and always made the day fly by. I did not know Mrs. Peterson, but I work with the Scott & White Health Plan in Waco, Texas and was notified of her passing. She sounds wonderful and amazing and I wish I had the priviledge of working with or meeting her. I pray for her friends and family to find joy in her meaningful life and memories. Smile and laugh from fond memories if you knew this special lady.
I did not know Quida well, but attended some of her seminars over the years. We never talked about the Lord or her faith, but by her her very nature and attitude you could see the Lord in her ever moment. I look forward to seeing her and getting to know her better in glory. PTL!
OMG - I am SPEECHLESS. This is just so SHOCKING! Condolences to her family. I hope ya'll all know how very special she was to all of us in the COBRA/HIPAA world. Our continuing education classes will NEVER be the same. She had a unique way of teaching us in an entertaining way that few speakers have.
"Ouida stands on the top rung of people I've enjoyed knowing in my life. She will be missed by many especially me."
My heart was broken when I heard the news of Ouida's passing. She had a way of lighting up a room when she walked in. I loved hearing the stories of her beloved ranch. When her laptop had been resting for too long during one of her Cobra Seminars her personal pictures would scroll by - I just loved watching to see what new pics she had posted! This is a woman who loved her life, her family and her God. I know the many friends she has made will sorely grieve her loss.
I've attended several work-related speaking engagements she presented over the years and ALWAYS looked forward to hearing her speak. Not only was she knowledgeable on the subject matter, (her business), but very personable and put a "human touch" to everything, making her presentations so understandable. She always spoke of her family, the ranch, and her dog. She was a great lady and will be missed in the Human Resource Community.
As the sorrow passes may Ouida's family and friends take comfort in the knowledge she was an inspiration to all who knew her. Ouida's friends at NAIFA-WA will miss her. God bless you all.

I first met Ouida in 1994 and have considered her a wonderful friends ever since. In my travels, I frequently would meet people who had met Ouida, attended one of her seminars, etc and they all loved her. She will be truly missed by all who knew her. Her time came too soon!! May she rest in peace and know how much we loved her. Joan McEntyre (Waco, TX)
We will miss Ouida's annual trip to Wichita Falls and her as well. She was inspiring in a way you don't find with very many. God bless her family.
I just attended one of Ouida's seminars on October 18th of this year! I'm in shock! She was her usual energetic, sharp minded, witty self. I was always amazed at how quickly she responded to my emails knowing how incredibly busy and "sought after" she must be. I became a Ouida "groupie" always finding out when she'd be in town and clearing my calendar so I could attend one of her seminars. I am so sad for her family. I do hope their knowledge of how much she was loved and respected comforts them.
So sad that Ouida is gone from our lives! She was an incredible lady with so much warmth and intelligence. Even though I had only met her in passing, she always greeted me as a friend.
Ouida... I can't express how much you'll be missed. You have always been a true light, so selfishly helping others. Rest in peace, Ouida...
She was a fantastic lady. Will definitely miss her and her knowledge in the Cobra industry.

I knew Quida for about 5 years. We met through her seminars in Las Vegas. She was a joy to listen to because she made a very dull topic fun and interesting. That is a rare gift.
I recently ran into some issues with a prospect and COBRA and she was gracious to offer her assistance and when the issue became very difficult, she was on top of her game and came through with the right answers.
She will be missed. Please extend my sincere condolences to her family.
Las Vegas, NV
Ouida was truly awe-inspiring. Her passing is an astonishing event, the impact of which to so many people cannot be overstated. Sincerest prayers go out to everone who loved her.
I am sure that this comes as a shock to many. Pat and I were just talking to her by phone in early November. In fact, we had talked about visiting her ranch in the future. While we all know of her expertise in the area of insurance, I had some great conversations about her livestock. Tom and Pat Gingerich
Quida was always a joy to work with. I never had any doubts about referring clients to her. She will surely be missed by many.

Ouida "made a difference" in so many ways and with so many people.
I met Ouida more than 20 years ago through NAHU. What a gift she has been to our industry and to my life! I had the privilege of enjoying a professional relationship with Ouida that evolved into an amazing friendship! Ouida and I often shared stories and experiences on many industry compliance topics, and the personal events of our lives.
I feel blessed to have so many memories with her, that often included humor and laughter. Ouida touched so many lives with her caring heart, her wisdom and her creative sense of humor.
Ouida's faith was such an important aspect of how she lead her life. I am confident Heaven is a better place with her presence.

It is hard to believe that Ouida is gone. She had a stunning vitality about her. It was easy to feel like you knew her your entire life because she was friendly & kind to everyone who crossed her path. What a loss for all who knew & loved her & for those who will not get that opportunity. My deepest sympathies go out to her family. Christine Buras / Atlanta Assn of Health Underwriters
In a business rife with mediocre, and sometimes worse, Ouida was an inspiration to all of us in the industry to raise our competency, emphasize our commitment to ethics, and to open up to our clients with understanding, empathy, and dignity with the utmost professionalism and no small amount of humor.
I think what made Ouida so special was that everything she gave, she gave tirelessly, willingly, happily and selflessly. I am afraid we won't see many like Ouida pass our way anytime soon.
I am sorry to hear of Ouida's passing, I always enjoyed her presentations. She made very tedious subjects much more pleasant to hear about, she had such a gift of sharing herself from the heart. My condolences to those she left behind.
Ouida was a great friend, associate and fellow member of NAHU and her humor and her smiles will be sorely missed! My thoughts and prayers of sympathy go out to her family!

I am sorry for the loss of a very nice person whom I have enyoyed talking with and attending her seminars over the years. Ouida will be missed...
I once saw Ouida speak during a COBRA presentation and I was excited to know she was presenting on another occasion some time after that. She was a dynamic speaker, a real spitfire, full of energy that made her incredibly memorable. I can only imagine her life made a tremendous impact on those lucky to be more involved with her than an occasional seminar.
My sincerest condolences to all who were touched by Ouida's special brand of personality. She reach was long and she will be missed by many.
Ouida, You were the Best! I don't think I can make it through a COBRA Seminar without. I will miss your laughter.
I worked with Ouida at Blue Cross and Blue Shield many years ago. She always had a smile on her face and a positive outlook on everything. Her spirit will live on through all those her remember her. I'm sure she's entertaining the angels as we speak.
We loved Ouida in Louisiana. Ouida always finished every seminar by saying "take care of your family". Ouida will be missed greatly.

Such a special person who had a positive and lasting impact on all of us. Thanks for the lessons. Thoughts and prayer to family and friends. Oudia will be missed.
Reading all of the entries, it is so very apparent Ouida, not only touched so many lives, but she lived every aspect of her life for an appreciation of the gifts which God presents each of us daily. Every life which she touched on a professional or personal level was enriched by her presence. Truly she lived her life Honoring God's stongest commandment, to Love One another. She did so by living her life in such a manner, that each and every one of us who were touched by her life, were lifted to an awareness that we were in the presence of a very loving, wise, extremely complicated, Godly woman. Yet she made it seem so very simple. Chosing to share the most important aspects of her life, her family, ranch, and her love of the part of the world where God placed her. This was one of Ouida's many gifts,to transcend the complications of our world, and bringing into focus the simple, basic most important aspects of our lives. She loved and was grateful for all of God's gifts. She truly lived her life simply to the fullest in every sense. I Thank God for giving her so much energy and sharing her with us, before taking her home to be with HIM.
Quida touched many hearts and was such a blessing to the Albuquerque broker community. She will be missed!
Ouida was such a joy to listen too. My condolences to her family members. It was a blessing to know she was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ. May God comfort you in this time is my prayer.

Ouida's positive impact on the lives of others will live forever.
Although Quida wouldn't remember me as well as I remember her. She did her part in making learning fun and having such an ebullient personality. We will all truly miss her and nobody will take her place, just her space.
May God Bless her and her family.

I never "met" Ouida face to face but participated in a "webinar' she gave for our company, Brown & Brown Insurance. She was a generous teacher to those of us who needed help translating some of the intricacies of governmental regulations affecting our customers. Enormously helpful with an infectious good humor. I have great sympathy for her family, friends and business associates. She wil be greatly missed!

To Ouida's family:
Ouida made the days brighter for those who knew her. A caring, sharing and loving lady. No one was a stranger after the first introduction. She was a blessing to those who had the good fortune to know her.
Thank you for this lovely lady.
Ouida was one of the most interesting and personable speakers our Association of Health Underwriters has ever had present to us. Her knowledge level of her area of expertise was beyond measure. Her willingness to share that knowledge, and to do so in such an entertaining manner, made her a rare jewel indeed. I am sorry for the loss to our industry - but I am so saddened for her family who was so loved by her.
My condolences. Ouida was an inspiration to me not only in my health benefits career and honing my career but an inspiration in being a better person altogether. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends that feel this extreme loss.
My only meeting with Ouida was at a cobra seminar here in Santa Barbara a few years ago by webinar but one I will never forget! Her enthusiasm for the subject was amazing. She put spin on the cobra subsidy going into place that made me feel more confident talking about it...and then there was that laugh! Our insurance family sends your family the deepest condolences for the passing of a most tenacious spirit. She will be greatly missed.
I did not know Quida well but I did get the pleasure of seeing her a few times at the COBRA presentations that she gave. She was really a wealth of knowledge and her vibrant personality made the seminars actually enjoyable.

My deepest condolonces to Ouida's family! This came as a huge shock to me, I wanted to share with the family that she literally saved my father-in-law's life! He was wrongfully offered COBRA and I emailed her for advice, her many emails, follow ups, and help to me with his ex-employer got him the coverage he needed and he just finished his round of treatment for his cancer diagnosis. Had he not received his COBRA coverage he would not have had the surgery and be here today! Her knowledge and willingness to help others was like no other! I will miss her greatly and am glad she is with her hubby now! All my prayers to the Peterson family!

Ouida was a wonderful inspirational entertaining person. I hope I recognize her when I get to heaven! I met her in several seminars and talked with her many times on the phone. she will be greatly missed!
She was a lady who was easy to love. Hope to see her in heaven some day. For now we will miss her. Mary Joyce Murray (Houston)
Ouida and family, we are all so fortunate to have known you and had you share your charm, grace and knowledge so generously. Thank you.
A big thank you to her family for sharing her with us. She has been a blessing through the years and I revel in the fact that now she will be with the LORD. May he bless you through your mourning. Sandy Forsythe, FTF Insurance Services, Buena Park, CA.
Thanks for bringing your own down-home humor to this crazy business. Your light will be greatly missed.
This is terrible loss for CONEXIS and for us agents; I loved OIda so much, she made COBRA fun and was always ready to help others understand it! She had passion, wisdom and gave so much to everyone; I called her several times and she was always ready to help and educate. I tried to attend all of her seminars, she was dynamite! I am deeply saddened and don't have words to express;... May GOD be with her and her family and loved ones at this time, LUcia da Silveira (San Diego, CA)~
Ouida was so unique and she will be missed by so many all over the country. She brought humor and fun to the classes she taught. May your wonderful memories of this great lady comfort you at this sad time.
Ouida has stuck in my memory from the first time I saw her COBRA presentation back when I was in my early 20's. Her character always made the topic enjoyable and she was such fun to learn from and share with clients. Her dedication to helping our industry regarding COBRA was unsurpassed. All of us out in N. Cal will miss her greatly. Praying God's merciful blessings on her friends and family. There is no one like Ouida!
Ouida was a bright shining light in the otherwise dreary compliance world of COBRA. Her stories were great! After listening to her, I always came away with more knowledge and armed with important information for my clients. She was a wonderful person and I will miss her.
What a wonderful woman, her family is so fortunate to have had her in their lives. She will be greatly missed. In all my time in this industry, her passing hits the hardest.
I remember each time I saw Ouida her smile would light up the room, her pictures of her family, animals, her ranch and her pugs. I will truly miss her. With all her travel I am glad that she passed at the place she truly loved and enjoyed on her Ranch.
We will all miss her and Cobra just won't be the same without our Ouida.
I have attended at least a dozen of Ouida's seminars and enjoyed her shared photos of family and the "Middle Aged Spread". She is a delightful soul. I will miss her vivaciousness that helped get the hours passed faster.
Several years ago I attended what I expected to be a very dry, boring, dull seminar on COBRA. Ouida made the subject matter very entertaining and informative and anthying but what I had expected. Though I only met her that one time, I have remembered her and am saddened to learn of her passing. My condolences to Ouida's family, but there is now a sunnier spot in Heaven.
Ouida was such an inspiration to anyone she came in contact with! She has touched so many lives and we will miss her. You all are in our prayers.
Rest in Peace, Ouida. It takes a special person to connect with as many people as you did. You made everyone feel at ease. You will be missed.
Rest in Peace Ouida. I have been in the insurance industry for almost 33 years. I had the pleasure of attending many many of her seminars. Ouida is the only person in history that could make Cobra fun and exciting. I will miss you. My colleagues will miss you. The entire insurance industry will miss you. God speed to you, my friend.

This is such a shock and a great lost to our industry. I had the opportunity to sit through two of her lectures...COBRA and HIPAA. Each time I left with a different awareness on each subject and a joy in my heart from the laughter while learning.
My sincere condolences to the family!!
She sounds like a great lady. Our codolences and prayers go out to her family and all those she touched in life. Sounds like Heaven just got another angel.
What a truly awesome woman. She leaves behind a legacy and will be missed. I finally had the privilege of meeting her earlier this year, when she spoke at our local NAHU meeting. My sincere condolences to her family.

Her knowledge and expertise will also be missed and the captivating way she presented her message. My thoughts & prayers are with the family . . . Ryan Thorn, Utah
She will be missed for the person she was as well as the gifted speaker. She was the COBRA education and knowledge Queen. I remember calling her after a workshop and receiving valuable information for a client. I sat through several of her seminars and learned more than I ever wanted to about COBRA and it was still fun. What a great woman and what great loss!
I didn't know Ouida personally but I did have the pleasure attending one of her seminars and she was amazing. I am deeply sadden to hear about her passing. My heart and prayers go out to her family and friends during this difficult time. She will be surely missed!
What a wonderful, positive life Ouida lived. Those who knew her were all rewarded by the experience. We were blessed by her friendship and will miss her.
There are no words... only time will help to ease our sorrow, truly a loss - of colleague and friend. A go to person always making time even when she didn't have it. My prayers reach out to her family and friends. May God Bless you all.
One of my favorite peoples. She would have been the dream co-worker, but in many senses, she was already that to us in our industry. My condolences to her family and friends.

May God bless the family and friends in this time of sorrow. ...Angela Caro (Santa Fe, NM)
I've never met someone so fill of energy and knowlege about her subjects! CE classes will never be the same. I won't be able to send off an email and get a quick reply to the complicated FSA/HSA/COBRA issues that I"ve done so many times in the past. A great Christian women that all others could look up to as an example. She is with her Heavenly Father and in a much better place! Will miss her and I'd like to extend to all all her family my personal condolences. You are in my prayers.
David C. Angel
Quida could make COBRA fun. Such wonderful stories. God will certaily be entertained.
I am saddened to hear of Ouida's passing. What a joy of a person she was to be around! D. Scott LIttleton, CO
The staff at Parisi insurance will tryly miss our "go to lady". She made a dry subject interesting and put the color back in the face of my terrified agents who had a difficult question. It was amazing how she could be able to respond so quickly to our inquiries. It was our pleasure to know her.
I had the honor of meeting Ouida through my involvement with the National Association of Health Underwriters. I will always remember her smile, strong will and loving personality. Prayers for her family and friends and God's blessings to all. Doug Young, Raleigh N.C.
Ouida was a special person. Although I only got to see her and talk to her during her swings through Northern California while educating us about COBRA, she always made me feel like a friend. Her knowledge of COBRA and skills as an educator were only surpassed by her extraordinary zest for life. Her humor and warm heart will be missed. May her family be comforted by the knowledge that so many people loved and appreciated Ouida.
Ouida will be missed by many, she brought so much FUN into learning. She will continue to be with all of us in spirit and guide us with her humorous wisdom and stories for years to come. My sincere condolences to her family during this difficult time.
This is a total shock to me personally.
I would attend every seminar Ouida gave in the San Diego area to be able to simply say hello.
A more personnel professional would be hard to find. In addition to her wonderful personality was a deep commitment to quality and integrity. I am going to miss this young lady greatly; I am proud to call her an associate and friend
My deepest condolences to Ouida's family. We have learned so much from her over the years, from her seminars, to her giving her personal email address and phone number to help folks with questions. She seemed to love life and I'm sure heaven is lit a little brighter with her there!
I will greatly miss her. She was my to go person when I had a Cobra questions. She was so full of knowlege. My heart goes out to all who knew her.
Ouida will certainly and sorely be missed in the professional world. Knowing her professionally, I can only imagine what her personal relationships must have been and how much fun they were. I think she made a friend of anyone and everyone she met. Prayers for her family and her associates.
Ouida was one of the brightest people I've met, and a fountain of insurance knowledge. I will greatly miss her assistance and her humor.
Very sad to hear of Ouida's passing she was a favorite in our office and any presentation she was part of was guaranteed to be interesting and informative no matter how dry the subject matter.
Very shocked and very saddened. Ouida was a joy to be with and learn from. I was priviledged to see her just a month or so ago in Fresno. She will be missed.
I had the privilege of working with Ouida in the early days at CompLink (now Conexis). She was always positive, laughing and smiling. Even after I left CompLink to enter the consulting world, I could still call on her and she would always share her knowledge usually mixed with a little wit. I am sure Ouida is already 'making 'em laugh' in heaven. Elizabeth Klein
What a great lady and inspiration to our industry. You will be greatly missed...Prayers go out to the family.....God bless. John Funkhouser KY

What a beautiful lady and speaker, I always looked forward to her coming to town. She will be missed, she touched a lot of people with her knowledge and humour. Lisa Garcia, Employer Benefits
To the Peterson Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. My heart felt condolences.
Ouida was a friend, colleague and inspiration to many of us in the Insurance industry. Her extreme knowledge of Cobra/FSA/Sec. 125 and the like, was immense. She was always upbeat, and available to educate, instruct and assist her colleagues in the industry. She was Funny, Outgoing, Entertaining, and made her classes fun, easy and a pleasure to learn from. She will be missed and irreplaceable in our industry. May God Bless & Be With You All in your time of grief.
Ouida you'll be missed.
Quida most certainly mastered the art and heart of giving. She was and will always be a true TREASURE; her attitude was amazing to say the least and while she's no longer here in body; her infectious laughter and smile will always be with us.
Sincerest Condolences to Quida's family and many friends.
Ouida was such a gift to those in our industry. I recently had the priviledge of seeing her a final time in Fresno. She will be sorely missed but will be welcomed by God in Heaven.
I was saddened to hear of Ouida's passing. She was in Fresno, CA recently doing a seminar and was cutting up (at my expense). She was a joy to be around. Our industry and the world will miss her! Wellman Shew
I was fortunate enough to hear Ouida present a two hour FMLA CE course on November 18th. She was so knowledgeable and funny, too. God Bless, Judith Welker, NMRGAHU
Ouida was a guest speaker for our Benefits Symposium this May and was an absolute natural and joy to listen too! Very saddened to hear of her sudden loss. Prayers to the family.
Ouida was a very special lady who will be missed well beyond her working relationships. We laughed together and shared our love of quilts. She was everybody's friend and encourager. If there's anything I've learned from Ouida it is to live life to the fullest. Indeed, she did.
A GREAT..... loss to all around her ,both business and personal.....Bob Fiorendino
Ouida was such an inspiration to those in our industry. In the past 16 years, I loved being in the audience of many when she presented at our local DFW meetings. Her presentations would always reach maximum capacity. She was such a wonderful educator that was always willing to share her knowledge and ready to help without hesitation. She was always there for all who needed her and made sure to give out her cell phone and e-mail address to those in the audience. I recall her saying that if we were not sure about a COBRA or FMLA situation to call her before making a mistake (a chuckle would always follow). She would respond or call back to advise about the situation. She will be greatly missed. Rest in peace Ouida, you made a huge impact to many.
My sympathy goes out to her mother, extended family and friends.
She was the most entertaining and educated trainer on COBRA. We at Conexis will miss you much. She was well like by our company and just always had a smile when she came to Dallas.
Oida was the source of knowledge for COBRA and HR. We will all missi her.. Patrick Freeman
While once visiting McMurty's bookstores in Archer City, I encountered a couple of books by Maria Louise Ramé (pen name Ouida). I purchased them and at the next California seminar, gave them to Ouida as a surprise. The entire audience then got the wonderful story of how she got her first name (plus, one of books was not in her already-extensive "Ouida" collection). With family in Comanche, Brownwood, Stephenville, and Rising Star, I felt right at home every time she came to speak. More importantly, my clients thought she was the scariest speaker they had ever heard ("COBRA isn't that insurance law...it is that EMPLOYER LAW!!!). David is right that Ouida is going to enjoy listening to Ouida's HIPAA and COBRA updates as much as we did. Gone too soon...way too soon. My deepest sympathies to her Mom and for all those wonderfully cute kids we all enjoyed in her screensaver before each lecture.
I first met Ouida when I went to work at BCBSTX. She was already a legend. Her presentations filled with all of the "aw shucks" delivery kept all engaged and smiling.
I left Texas for over a decade. Upon my return I had the occasison to reconnect. Well, you can imagine that it was as if we had seen each other just yesterday.
I think once anyone met Ouida they just became a part of the Peterson family. That says it all.
Common sense just lost a gifted advocate. I saw her speak many times and always learned something and always laughed.
I had the opportunity, on occasions, to share the stage with Ouida at conferences, and every time I did, she stole a piece of my heart with her generosity, her humor, and her love for TAHU. Although her passing is a big loss, God is smiling, because I know she is updating Him every chance she can on HIPAA and COBRA.
I am one of Ouida's work friends in California and am broken hearted by the loss. She was such a wonderful lady and an inspiration to all who were blessed to know her and spend time with her as I did over the past few years.
I was fortunate to have visited her Ranch or as she called it “the middle age spread” just this past June and had Friday table with her aunts, uncles & a few family friends. I was welcomed as part of the family. Ouida played the piano and everyone sang hymns – I will never forget this wonderful memory and the time we spent together on our drive to San Antonio for the NAHU Convention.
Her bright light now shines down from Heaven on all of us. My sincere heartfelt sympathy goes out to all her family and friends. May my dear friend Ouida rest in peace.
Ouida was a champion presenter and friend in our eyes. She presented for the NTSHRM annual conferences and did so graciously every year. We were excited to hear her cheerful, enthusiastic, and fully energized presentations on COBRA and FMLA. She was the best and made learning fun. She will be truly missed by all. Our heartfelt condolence goes out to the family.
Words can't describe the void that will be left without Oiuda. We will all miss Ouida not only for who she was as a person but her willingness to share her knowledge. No one will ever hold a candle to her! Karen Robinson, Friesen-Strain Insurance, ETAHU
Ouida didn't know me, but I knew her as anyone that may have seen her speak, or just her presence in a room. What a delight. I think those that have had Ouida in their lives were lucky. She's surely going to be missed.
What a loss to her family, friends, TAHU members and the world! She will be missed. Marty Bunce Houston, TX
Ouida was the first person in my insurance career who made an impact on my understanding of the level of professionalism and assistance that was readily available to all of us. She was one of a kind, and an original, and a blessing to know. Thanks for the memories and the knowledge.
Tom Cottar (Baytown, TX)
I remember the first time I met Ouida. I was a brand new insurance agent listening to one of her famous COBRA classes and it totally blew me away how much of an amazing teacher she was. I thought all COBRA teachers would make the subject as fun and non boring as she did. Boy was I wrong. There was only one Ouida. Her smile, her laughter, and her hugs will be missed. Anyone who knew her was blessed. My prayers to her family and loved ones.
Ouida was such a unique and valued part of our national education initiatives. She would chide me about being the "tall talkin' girl from Michigan" and I would ask her where her overalls were before she got up to speak. She always had a smile and we always joked that we were COBRA/HIPAA arch-nemeses. I will miss that smile and bear hug immensely. Karen
Working with Ouida was a priviledge. She will never be forgotten, Not only did she have the gift of words, but she impacted those around her by actions of kindness and a constant positive attitude. Thank you Ouida. Ligia.
How blessed I am to have known Ouida and enjoyed her vibrant personality. I will always remember her big smile and her energy.
She will always be remembered for her kindnesses. Paula Drabek
Ouida will be greatly missed but never forgotten! She always brightened up the room with her smile and captivating personality. Truely an AWESOME, AMAZING & INSPIRING lady!!
I was lucky to have worked with Ouida for several years during her tenure at BCBSTX. She by far, had the best personality and kindest heart of anyone. After she left BC, she was very succesful in developing a much needed niche in the insurance marketplace. She will truly be missed!
Paula Harper, Murphy, Texas
Ouida was the first recipient of the NAHU William Wetzel Excellence in Speaking award. An award so well deserved. She was in the heart and soul of so many people and will be missed by everyone. Our hearts... thoughts and prayers are extended to her family and friends..
What a large space will be left in our lives without Quida being with us each year at our symposium. She was one of those rare people that you can't wait to see after meeting her the first time. I looked forward to each meeting where she was the speaker. Our hearts are saddened by this loss. God blessed all of us by allowing us to spend time with her at least once a year. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family. God has added a beautiful "Texas" rose to his garden.
It has been many years since I was working in the same vicinity as Ouida. I will never forget her. She brought unquenchable joy with her to the workplace as well as professional excellence. Her clients and coworkers were fortunate indeed, as well as friends and family. Condolences. She was loved by all.
Ouida is the only person who can take an otherwise boring insurance related topic and make it a work of art. She will be sorely missed. I met her 15 years ago via our insurance ties and she was one of those rare people that you are drawn to - her energy - her love of learning - her Christian spirit. Gosh she will be missed but boy, God sure got him a precious soldier. Michelle Fuller, BancorpSouth Insurance Services - Hattiesburg, MS
Ouida accompllished what many of us strive for - she made a difference - and in doing so, earned the respect of her peers. Make room, God ... Ouida's coming.
Ouida will be greatly missed. She was an AWESOME, AMAZING, and INSPIRING lady. She is one of a kind. (Latonia Eldridge, BB&T- J. Rolfe Davis Insurance, Maitland, FL)
The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name' sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: For thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies; Thou annointest my head with oil; My cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever.
Rest in Peace Ouida...
Quida was a wonderful person and always had a smile on her face. I used to call her trouble because every time she came over to our unit she had a problem for us to fix. I worked with her at BCBSTX for several years and she was always laughing. The good thing is that she is in a better place in heaven. My condoulness to her family and god bless them.
I had the privilege of both working with Ouida and hearing her presentations. What a delight. Even though it's been a few years since I spoke with her, she will be missed.
Ouida will be greatly missed and her impact on our industry will be forever marked. She was a wonderful, knowledgable, and caring woman that ALWAYS made us laugh and learn at the same time. I credit Ouida with helping to shape and mold the world of insurance and we will forever be grateful. Our sincerest sympathies for her family and friends.
I grew up with Ouida from Brownie Scouts on to high school. Even though I haven't seen Ouida in years I shall miss her greatly. She always had a smile and a twinkle in her eyes. I'm sure there is a big parade in Heaven for Ouida. My sincere condolences and prayers for her family.
QUIDA WAS A GREAT PERSON SHE WILL BE MISSED BY IS ALL BUT THE GOOD THING IS SHE IS IN A BETTER PLACE AND IS IN HEAVEN WITH BROTHER AJ I WISH I COULD HAVE MADE THE SERVICE BUT HEALTH WISE I COULD NOT MY CONDOULNSE TO ALL CHARLES PETERSON
There are those people whose light shines so bright that even when they are gone you still see it. It makes me smile to think of some of her stories to get thru to all of us and enjoy learning. She is a very special lady
I first met Ouida in 1986 when we both worked for Blue Cross. She was a awesome educator and dear friend. She will be missed by the many lives she touched and I will cherish her memory always. Love and prayers to each of you during your loss.
Ouida was amazing! I only knew her on a professional level but Ouida could light up a room. She is truly a diamond in the rough and will be deeply missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of her family and friends! God picked a good one!
You will live forever in the lives of everyone you touched so deeply.
I miss you already.
It is truly an honor and a blessing to have known Ouida. She was such a warm and wonderful person; I will miss her dearly.
There are no words to describe how I feel over Ouida's passing. I attended every class she taught in Ft. Worth. Ouida always made me sit in the front of the room so she could pick on me. I so enjoyed it. My thoughts and prayers are with her family at this difficult time.
I just heard about Ouida's passing and had to express my sympathies to her family and friends. While I knew Ouida only professionally, she made an impact like few others. Not only was she a knowledgeable and gifted educator, she was one of the warmest and most giving people I have ever met. I was truly blessed to have known her.
I had the pleasure of attending one of Ouida's COBRA presentations this month. Before our lunch break, she sat at the piano which just happened to be in the room, and played a stanza from "How Great Thou Art". It was beautiful and it shared with me another talent that she had which I would otherwise not have known. I can't say that Ouida was in "rare" form that day as she was always an upbeat and inspirational person but she definitely had her game on. I will miss her greatly.
My heartfelt condolences in the loss of Ouida. Anna Lou, let all those good memories bring you comfort during your time of great grief.
While I didn't have the pleasure of knowing Ouida as well as I wish I had, I knew her well enough to admire her and aspire to become more like her. Besides being the top in her field she was a giver and she was kind. She helped me several times over the years and I knew she had a wonderful heart. She enjoyed people and helping them. When she gave a seminar here in San Angelo November 10th I wondered then what will we all do when Ouida quits? Little did I know we would all have to find out much sooner than ever expected. I have been grieving since I heard of her passing and I feel that I have lost a friend. My prayers to her family.
That smile, wisdom and knowing of how to answer that just so so questions keeping us all in compliance with a good ole belly laugh. A friend, colleage and mentor of the minds. Ouida, you will be deeply missed. I know Pete was there to greet you with loving arms. Thanks be to God! Tamela Southan
I only met Ouida a few times but she had the personality that made you feel like you knew her a lifetime. She will be missed. My thoughts, prayers and condolences to her family. Thanks for all your help Ouida. Mike
We just returned from the Sunday visitation for Ouida
It was good to meet her lovely mother and family members
Who made us right at home just like Ouida......
It is hard to think of this world without Ouida Peterson,
i grew up with ouida in duncanville and through high school lived around the corner from her. my wife met ouida at mt. view. we will miss seeing her at the gathering each spring as always enjoyed visiting with her.
I grew up with Ouida and we shared so many fun activities together. I am so sorry to hear that she has passed. My deepest condolences to her mom.
Whether sitting next to each other in school, standing beside each other in a GA Pageant, sharing a seat as the bus rolled down the highway on one of our many summer church choir trips, dressing up for our Saturday morning Rainbow Girls meeting, or just hanging out...Ouida made each moment special. There was always a twinkle in her eye and a smile on her face. Though in later years we wouldn't see each other that often, when we did it was as if no time had passed. Ouida truly was an earth angel whose loving and unselfish spirit touched the lives of all who knew her. I will forever cherish her friendship. Soar high, Sweet Friend.
Thanks for all you did for the DFW health insurance association, fellow agents and the people you served. There will never be another like you. We will miss you greatly. Jim & Debi Bowman Plano, TX
How can anyone find the words to appropriately describe how wonderful Ouida was. She was such a great friend, teacher, mentor, and loved by all. I've never met anyone who loved life as much as she did and who did so much for others. I'll miss her very much! She was one special lady!
If I had to name a single person who has had the most impact on my professional life, it would be Ouida. She is so well described as funny, friendly, loving and inspirational. Ouida gave with charity, she loved without bounds and accepted others as Jesus did. That Ouida and Pete are together again gives me joy. I suspect she is loving the beauty before her today. Carolyn Goodwin, Dallas
We are remembering Ouida's ministry to us this morning. We are grateful for the gift of music she so freely offered to us and to her Lord. I'm glad to have been her pastor and friend--Dale Pugh
You always made me laugh. You knew the right things to say at the most appropriate times and had such a special way of saying them. I will miss your smile and your presence. You will always be in my heart and I am blessed to have had you as my friend. I know you are at peace now with your beloved Pete. Love you always.
To know Ouida was to love Ouida. From the day I met her many years ago she was like a sister to me. She was so much fun to be around and I never ever saw her in a bad mood. She was always there to help anyone she could. Her smile and wit and compasion will be missed by everyone who knew her. I still struggle with the fact that she really is gone. But in a better place and making everyone laugh.
We will miss Ouida so much: a beautiful, loving, fun, smart, giving, caring, loving and Christian lady who made everyone welcome and happy. She loved Uncle A.J. (Pete) and he loved her and they are together now as they should be. May God keep her close and comforted as we remember and keep her in our hearts forever. We Love You Ouida. Jim & Zona
