Kristen & Katherine
My sincerest condolences during your time of mourning the passing of your mother. It has been years since I have seen the two of you, but I fondly remember the both of you when you lived in Laredo. Please be assured that your mother is now at peace with God and you will always have her memory with you.
May God guide you during this time of your personal loss.
My heart-felt condolences to you Katherine and Kristen. My condolences to the entire family. "Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal."
Forever she will be in this broken heart
Memories that will never depart
Sister, friend, and teacher to me
Like her I wanted to be
Pictures of her give little relief
From this tortuous grief
For her we did unite
To say our solemn goodnight
With praises and joy we did weep
For now with the angels she does sleep
Vesta was a dear long time friend. I treasure so many memories. She will always have a special place in my life.
December 18, 1945-March 1, 2013
Most of you know me as Katharine, some of you know me as mini V, but I am Vesta's daughter.
You are here today because my mother touched you in some way; My sister, Kristen and I thank you for time and support
Last Wednesday I was making mothers famous chicken soup, she got up to do something and collapsed, I asked her if she was ok and she smiled at me said "Well..... No". She closed her eyes never to speak again. She passed away on Friday morning with close family at her side listening to Amazing grace and the Lords Prayer
Whatever she suffered in her short 67 years was released in her passing; she is now at peace
She had style, grace, an infectious laugh, and loved unconditionally.
Groomed for theater as a child, she was educated at Marymount, Hockaday, and the University of Texas. (Kappa) She earned a sharpshooter designation in riflery at Camp Waldemar; she played the piano, fished and hunted. She was brilliant at watercolor painting, bridge, backgammon, jeopardy, and wheel of fortune.
Exquisite taste and threw extraordinary parties, but simple and straight forward
Coleen Murray, her veterinarian said it very well “ she was a no-non sense, straight to the point kind of lady”
She had an affinity for the finer things in life and a very unique sparkle in her eyes.. You knew she was so cool.
She could have done anything with her life, she chose to be a mother
She was fortunate enough to have two great loves; my father Brad Galo and my step father Lamar Norsworthy. I thank them today for taking care of her and
Providing the means with which she had the freedom to live life on her terms.
She loved animals, nature, history, culture, art and architecture but she really adored her family and her grandchildren Claudia and Mac. She had a really special beautiful relationship with her brother David Greenleaf. They watched Sunday football together and we often had dinner at whatever the Mexican food restaurant du jour was. Always Mexican Food
Mother and Kristen had an amazing bond; their had their own language, I didn't have the dictionary. They would just look at each other and know what the other was thinking and then there would be a one-word confirmation for the whole conversation only leaving me to wonder what just occurred. They could finish each other's sentences
Set the standard for class, sophistication and refinement. She didn't gossip and never judged. She taught me not to worry what other people thought and always had an amazing sense of self. She never marginalized my ideas and opinions; She let me make my own decisions and was always there to laugh about if they turned out to be ridiculous. She didn't criticize but there was that look
Respected everyone, didn't care who you were. She treated everyone the same from Her loyal housekeeper Alma to her handshake with the Pope. Never passed judgment, loved purely and without condition.
She touched too many people to mention, you all know who you are, but her greatest loyal confidant was my Aunt Judy Norsworthy. Thank you for your presence in our life.
She traveled the world and always knew what she wanted to see. She took my sister and I all over the globe making sure we saw as much as we could in any given day!!! She made sure we got to experience what she loved. I remember my cousin David Jr quizzing her on where he should go next.
Every meal was an event-presentation was very important to her; her photo albums are speckled with meals she ate on her travels. I will miss her chicken soup, green bean casserole, and Bloody Mary's.
She had an uncanny quick wit and sense of humor- we laughed every day. Her one-liners…… always at the appropriate and sometimes inappropriate moments.
She was honest yet was cunning at the art of omission, she let you know only what you needed to know and I swear she had eyes behind her head, I called her hawk eye, she knew our every move, thought or feeling
We could always count on her, her generosity was unrelenting (she gave Kristen and I mink coats when we were in our yearly teens……. when we lived in Laredo Texas), She listened she was our pillar, when she didn't have the words to comfort she always had a one liner to make you laugh
She forgave with ease and didn't hold grudges, so amenable and easygoing, even in the worst situations. Could play possum better than anyone; Mother played the game of life with cards close to her chest, nobody could penetrate her intense privacy
One of her dear friends Susan Ferguson summed it up very well: She was a wonderful Mother, a great friend, and a talented artist-cook-gardener, who had great taste in everything. She lived in elegance, because she herself was elegant and graceful. Gracious. A gem.
She is now crossing Rainbow Bridge with every animal she cared for during her extraordinary life
Please honor and celebrate my mother because she really did not like fussy mopers
My darling 'sister' Vesta was a wonderful Mother, a great friend, a talented artist-cook-gardener, who had natural style and great taste in everything. She lived in elegance, because she herself was elegant and graceful. Gracious.
A gem. And so funny! I treasure so many memories.
I loved her dearly.
May her heart find Peace now in the arms of Heaven.
Fare Thee well, my dear and beautiful friend.
I will miss you terribly.
Our love and prayers are with you.
