Miss Higby was my third grade teacher, at the Fort Worth - Masonic Home & School of Texas, in 1966. This dear sweet lady, Miss Higby was so special, that even after 46 years, those who she taught and mentored still remember with fondness that special gift she had, and through her hands on methods of teaching, made learning fun. She was the first person who took me and my fellow students trick or treating at Halloween, and we always had a special play each Thanksgiving about the pilgrims and Indians. I was able to speak with Miss Higby by telephone in the 1980's through a mutual friend she attended church with, years after I left the Home in the summer of 1969. We must have talked for an hour concerning our memories at the MH&S of Texas. Miss Higby will always hold a special place in the hearts of all the students whose lives she touched at the Home. We love you Miss Higby and rejoice at the long life of 102 years that God blessed you with before taking you to His heavenly home. May you rest in peace in Jesus presence until we meet again. Thank God for teachers like Madeline Higby. We will miss you and never forget you. Our lives were touched, and for the better, because of precious saints like you.
