Although Jack and I rarely ever "saw" each other, he was a vital contributor to the instructional process in my classroom. For 25 years, our professional interaction was through phone calls, written notes and in more recent years, voice mail and e-mail. Consistently, Jack was an eager and reliable source of support for the learners of our community. He truly showed a servant's heart. At times, I felt as if he were my guardian angel helping me to locate and improve the furniture and fixtures in my classroom. Jack's efforts contributed greatly to create a learning environment that helped school-aged and adult students find value in knowledge beyond the traditional school setting. I will forever cherish Jack's encouragement, effort and support.

Jack was a big part of my childhood memories. Though he was only a few month older, I got a kick out of calling him Uncle Jack. We were truly childhood playmates. I have wished for years for a chance to sit with him and recall our many escapades, but the time was never there. Now it will not come on this green earth.
I guess like I use to tell his Dad and my grand-dad I may someday soon catch up with him in earthly years. What a laugh Granddaddy would have over that statement. His most often ask question of me during our childhood years was, "Berta, now who is the oldest?" like he did not know the answer, and then have a big laugh at me when I vowed to catch up one day.
So sorry for the loss of my oldest friend, my Uncle Jack.
