I recall one of Johnnie's many rare qualities was being able to live in the moment. His exuberant personality was surpassed only by the glow of his 24 K gold heart. His love was 1st for Wanda, his soul mate and precious daughter, Luanne. I can only imagine how he cherished his granddaughter. Then came his love for life, for country music & the hundreds of dreams he helped come true. I seriously have never known such an honest, compassionate, nonjudgmental, loyal friend as Johnnie. Sweet Wanda was the perfect compliment to his life, to his very heart. She, like him is one of nature's gentlefolk. My time with you all was way back when Luanne was in Chisai's dance classes. We had a blast redoing the old theater, aka 'roach palace' into the infamous Grapevine Opry. Remember when Aunt Susie fell through one of the rotten chairs? Johnnie worked tirelessly to turn the adventure into what it became, a chance for unknowns to showcase their talent. A favorite memory of mine is the rare times Johnnie would talk Wanda into singing with him. So shy, she would turn red but has the voice of an angel not many got to hear. Most amazing to me about this couple is where or how they found time to help SO many people on so many levels! They actually saved my life one fateful day as I lay (literally) dying and that is only one kind deed of thousands they performed throughout their lives together.Johnnie also was a mentor to my 7 yr old son who was being bullied at school. His kindness made an impression on my son for life. I only learned of Johnnie's passing recently, having lived in N.M. for several years. Words cannot reduce your pain, Wanda, Luanna & Ashley but hopefully knowing how highly not only he, but you as well, are thought of will lift your spirits a bit. All who knew Johnnie also knows he won't be truly happy until he is with you again. I hope that last thought came out OK...the way it was intended. He adoration for you was truly spiritual.

I considered Johnnie a very good friend and worked many shows with him over the years. He will certainly be missed.

He will be missed by so many. I have known many that would not be where they are today without this man and his dreams. My prayers to his family. Linda Calvey. Bedford, Texas

Although I didn't know Johnnie; you'rer in my thoughts and prayers at this time and may you always cherish the many memories you have.

Johnnie did alot of good things by helping lots of artists get their start and letting those who were aspiring stars have an opportunity to perform in front of an audience.
