Pamela Hsiu Lo Day, 62, died Sunday evening, April 7, 2013, of complications resulting from cancer. At the time of her death, Pamela was the proud principal of Charles E. Nash Elementary School in Fort Worth. Memorial service: 1 p.m. Sunday, April 28, in the auditorium at the Tarrant County College Trinity River Campus. Friends and associates who knew or worked with Pamela are cordially invited to attend the celebration of her life. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Charles Nash Elementary School or the Nash Elementary PTA. Pamela was born in Calcutta, India, on Aug. 15, 1950. Her parents were Taik Lin Aw and Kathleen Lee Aw. Pamela was born a British subject and lived in Calcutta until the age of 10, when she moved to Hong Kong with her mother and brothers, Harry and Albert. She attended elementary and secondary schools in Hong Kong and was a student at the Hong Kong University when she met her future husband, Wayne Day, at an R&R party hosted for American and Australian servicemen who were fighting in Vietnam in 1970. Pam and Wayne were married at Grand Forks Air Force Base in North Dakota on Oct. 15, 1971, and remained happily married until her death. She moved to Adana, Turkey, when they were assigned to Incirlik Air Base in Turkey and then to Clark Air Base in Angeles City, Philippines. While living overseas, Pamela was employed by the U.S. Department of Defense Education Activity on both bases and worked in adult education at the base education centers. Because her studies at Hong Kong University had been interrupted, she began redoing her college degree once they returned to the United States in 1976. She received an associate degree from Tarrant County Junior College, a bachelor's degree from Texas Wesleyan University and a master's degree from the University Of Texas at Arlington, as well as teacher's certification, bilingual education certification and principal's certification from UTA. She had been employed by the Fort Worth Independent School District as an adult education aide, an elementary teacher, an assistant principal and a principal. Pamela was a principal at Sam Rosen Elementary School before transferring to Charles Nash Elementary about 13 years ago. During that time, she came to think of the staff and the faculty as family, and the kids in the school as an extension of her own family. She cared deeply for the welfare and well-being of her students and her teachers. Nash achieved exemplary status during statewide accountability reports several times during her tenure, and she always put the credit on her teachers' and students' shoulders, saying that she was merely a guide to help them find their way. Though she was not born a Texan, Pamela proudly adopted Texas as her home. She was an enthusiastic Rangers and Cowboys fan, and loved to watch various sports events on television. She was an amateur radio operator; she held a technician's class license with the call sign of W5PHD and enjoyed operating the ham radio on her travels outside the United States. Pamela loved practical jokes, and her staff at Nash Elementary was often on the receiving end. She loved to laugh and had even gone through clown training at one time. Pamela was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma cancer in March 2012. She had received treatment at Texas Oncology in Fort Worth and at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, and was greatly appreciative of the care and comfort from both. Survivors: Her husband, Wayne; son, Jason and his wife, Courtney, and grandchildren, Kennedy and Briley Day, of Fort Worth; "adopted sons," Elzan Sampson and Ezekiel Wizell of Highland Village; and brothers, Harry and his wife, Jessie Aw, and niece, Deborah Aw, of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and Albert Aw and his wife of Osaka, Japan.

Dearest Pam, it hardly seems real that it's been 9 years. So much has happened... just yesterday I found a note you'd sent me after you, Courtney and I took Kennedy to Disney on Ice and memories of that day came flooding back. Our little princess is finishing 8th grade and will soon head to high school. Briley is the sweetest boy I've ever known. You would burst with pride to see them today.... and oh how I wish you could. You're still sorely missed my friend.... your absence still leaves a hole that can never be filled.

She was such a gift!!! She loved her students, teachers, staff and families and gave her all for them. She made me feel like a part of the family the moment I was hired, supported me, guided me, and mentored me to be a better teacher and math coach. She helped me feel like I could do anything. Even after I left for a different school, she was there for me. I will miss her stories, her laughter and her

It seems like only awhile back we were laughing together in the infusion lab at 12th Ave Tx Oncology...we joked about your hair falling out before mine!! You fought an awesome fight. I am blessed that my daughter was in your presence at Nash. I am assured that you are at peace and still smiling. Nash has an angel now. ~~Rest in Glory~

Once upon a time, when all the world was young, I worked with Pam, who was like a big sister to several of us at Linotypographers. "Respect my gray hairs!" she would tell us, waggling a finger, and we would laugh. She was all of 35.
On a girls' night out, she introduced me to my future husband and kept a benevolent eye on our courtship. Finally, she was the matron of honor at my wedding.
Time went by, and we fell out of touch. I lived abroad, and Pam embarked on a glorious career. I can imagine the joy she brought into the lives of her students and fellow teachers. She brought great joy to my husband and me (we have been married for 25 years now).
So many memories, and now no way to seek Pam out. I can't believe she's gone, and I will always miss her.
Love you, Pam.

Wayne, Jason, and Courtney thank you for sharing Pam with us. I worked with her at 3 different schools. I loved the energy she brought wherever she was. She would stay calm whenever everyone else was frantic. She used to say "Be a duck. Stay calm an cool on top, but paddle like crazy underneath." My husband and I both loved her and will miss her very much. God bless you Pam.

Pam,
I will always cherish the past 24 years. I believe in my heart the Lord picked you to be my friend. Memories will forever be imprinted in my mind of the first day I met you at TCC Northwest Campus the summer of 1989. Never knowing that within two years we would share the next 22 years working together and an unconditional friendship filled with lots of love. I'll never forget the first Thanksgiving you and Jason spent with us in the Hill Country at my father's home, your first year teaching and the many family events after that. Over the years you were no longer just a friend; you were more than family. I admired your perseverance, your ambition, and your drive. You went on to do amazing things for yourself and all of the people and children who surrounded you. You touched so many with your beautiful smile and your humble heart. As we were separated doing different jobs in the education field we were both passionate about, you were always there no matter where we were at the time. There are so many many things I will miss, but most of all our late night phone conversations. I know you are in a peaceful place, and no longer suffering from the inflictions caused by cancer. I love you, beautiful woman and I will miss you tremendously.
Wayne, Jason, Courtney, Kennedy and Briley I will be here and I love you very much.

I was inspired everytime I spoke with Ms Day. Her smile and her kindness is what I will remember. Even when she had to stop a student in the hallway she would do it in a way that left the child knowing she cared. I am sorry you had to leave your earthly family, your extended family at Charles Nash, and those like me who were blessed by just knowing you. They say heaven is a community with no pain, no sorrow, just sunny days surrounded by joy and peace. So I know somewhere in heaven there is another Charles Nash elementary who is welcoming you into their loving arms.
May God bless you and your family. Rosalinda Mendoza

Dear Day family,
On behalf of The Al-Radaideh family our deepest sympathy, thoughts and sadness are with you. It is with profound heartfelt sorrow that I feel with the finding out of her passing. It was as if everything paused as soon as the car door opened and my kids broke the news. I sobbed immediately, as I looked around to see parents with their children grieving about the loss that has effected the community - the loss of Pamela Day.
She was always so generous to share her love, and knowledge and in such an enthusiastic passionate and lively way. She brought so much as she touched each and every one of us, with her dedication, her major contribution in making sure her children received those scholarships. Which to me she continues to give and her memory will forever be remembered.
Charles Nash will never be the same without this great remarkable person that we ALL loved so dearly,

We arrived on the Charles E. Nash campus as very nervous prospective kindergarten parents. Not only did Mrs. Day reassure and welcome us, she spent two hours with us. She showed us every inch of the campus and introduced us to anyone who would stand still. The pride she radiated for Nash infused that visit and every day we've been lucky enough to be part of the Nash family. Children and families thrive at Nash and we owe that to Mrs. Day's leadership of the fine team of faculty and staff that she assembled there. Our love to the Day family and to the Nash family at this most difficult of times.
