Raymond Beck Obituary

Dr. Raymond Beck LA VERNIA - Dr. Raymond Edward Beck, D.O., formerly of Fort Worth, went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017, at the age of 89. FUNERAL: 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Greenwood Chapel. Burial will follow the service. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in the name of Dr. Raymond Beck to The Salvation Army, in honor of the dedicated work they do. Raymond was born on Dec. 28, 1927, in Lubbock to the late Ben and Jewel Beck. He grew up in Amarillo, where he attended Amarillo Senior High. He served our country as a Medical Technician in Japan with the 11th Airborne Division and 188th Paratrooper Infantry Regiment. On April 14, 1949 he married Joyce Renfro and together they had three children: Gregory Raymond, Valerie Sondra, and Dana Bradford. During their 68 years of marriage, Raymond built a very successful career as a Radiologist. He attended Amarillo College in 1946 and 1948-1950, and West Texas State University in 1950. In 1954, he attended Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine and graduated with a Doctor of Osteopathic degree. Raymond did his internship at the Doctors' Hospital in Columbus, OH in 1954-1955. He practiced family medicine in Amarillo from 1955-1960. Raymond performed his residency at Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine as a Radiologist in 1961-1963. While practicing, Raymond also served as Associate Professor of Radiology at both Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine and Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine. In 1968, Dr. Beck established the Residency Program at the Fort Worth Osteopathic Hospital in Fort Worth, where he served as head of the Radiology Department from 1965, until his retirement. Above and beyond his thriving career as a physician, Raymond was a man deeply loved, not only by his family but also by all those who knew him. Raymond's faith in the Lord was strong. He was a longtime member of Altamesa Church of Christ before moving to La Vernia, where he enjoyed the fellowship with their many friends at Grace Bible Church. SURVIVORS: Raymond will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Joyce; brother, Jerry (Dian) Beck; three children, Gregory (Cheryl) Beck; Sondra (Steve) Kemplin; and Brad (Melissa) Beck; 10 grandchildren, Kristy (Brian) Miller; Chad Beck; Kyle (Michelle) Beck; Valerie Kemplin; Caryn (Brock) Emmons; Amalia Kemplin; Alexandria, Travis, Parker, and Ryan Beck; and four great-grandchildren, Andrew and Ben Kemplin, Jacob Miller and Ava Beck.

Joyce and family, I am so sorry to hear of Ray's passing. I will always be grateful for him taking a chance on me to work with him. He is the only colleague that I ever called "Chief" in my radiology career. I will truly miss him.
