Dear Vandergriff Ohana,
Mahalo for sharing Tom with the public. What an impact he made on the community, state, and nation. When I moved to Arlinton in 1982 from Hawaii, the name I heard talked about most was Tom Vandergriff! My deepest condolences to you, as well as us. God's peace be with you. Aloha,

To the Vandergriff Family:

I am teacher with the AISD. I fondly remember his visits to speak with the third graders at Fitzgerald Elementary, many years ago. He was such a fantastic storyteller and such a thoughtful man. He would stand at the door and shake all of their hands. I even remember a time where the students wanted his autograph and he started signing their sheets of paper. One of the teachers stepped in, and had him sign a sheet of paper, which we then copied for the students. I. personally feel, if we had let him, he would have given each one his autograph. He will truly be missed.

May God be with you during this time.

To the Vandergriff Family: My parents (Willard and Lynn Sutton) thought the world of Mr. and Mrs. Vandergriff. They often referred to them as "the first couple of Arlington". The entire community will miss them.

God Bless,

Debbie Sutton
