Looking back, I believe I only got to be in Joe's company a handful of times over the years, but I loved him. On this eve of Thanksgiving, I am deeply grateful that I had the honor of knowing him and following in the footsteps of his service in the Marine Corps, 1stMarine Division. I've regarded him as a grandfather, of sorts... A man who had sacrificed and gave of himself in ways that can't be fairly measured, let alone repaid. I want to thank his family for supporting his efforts to be with us, as I watched the impact he had on the young people he spoke to, and there could be no substitute for that. My heart is broken that we couldn't keep him forever, so I can only imagine how much his loved ones are missing him. You have my heartfelt condolences and sincere gratitude. SemperFi, EAC, SSgt USMC
