Growing up, i had the pleasure of knowing, flippo the clown. I was friends with his son, jay. We played little league baseball together ,and talked to flippo many times. His car was the greatest!!!! May you rest in peace and continue to make others laugh.
You brought joy, laughter and happiness in to so many lives, more than you ever knew. Thank you! Rest in Peace!
My dad played saxophone wth Mr. Fishman at Ohio State University School of Music. I stumbled on his obituary today and it brought back great memories of watching Flippo as a child. Nothing like growing up in Central Ohio in the 60's and 70's with great shows such as Flippo!
After all these years, we still talk about you. You made me laugh and smile as a kid. i thank you for those wonderful memories.
I grew up in Columbus, Ohio and loved Flippo. I entered a drawing for a new bicycle at Sandy's (a fast food restaurant) in the early sixties and won. I won and got to go on the Fippo show for the announcement. I was scared to go but my dad knew Flippo and he told me not to worry that Bob Marvin was his friend. My dad was a theatrical agent and musician in Columbus, Louis Posey. Sorry to learn that he passed away.
Growin' up in Ohio would have never been as cool without Flippo! Miss ya buddy.
Dear Flippo, you made my college years so much brighter and happier! Thanks for all the smiles!
Gone but not forgotten. "I Wish You Love"
RIP FLIPPO, you are the greatest. I enjoyed watching your program, i made sure i was home from school to see FLIPPO the clown, a child back then could not ask for more. 2bad we could not record your show back then. LUV U FLIPPO. DeWitt
Gone But Not Forgotten, Thank You for the joy you brought to my life, All My Love, Teri Byers/Haning
Forever in my heart. Even at 60.
the very finest days of my youth were spent watching Flippo the Clown...and to this day, I tell my Grandkids about him.
When I was young I would run home to see "The Early Show" little did know I would I'd be working with him at Qube. And the funny with still there. I remember after America Goes Bananaz wrapped up I seen him one summer,I was a young man no tee shirt at The Ohio State Fair he looked at me didn't miss a beat and said "Wow you are still black and all over." and I said yea and you will a two toned white clown, he laughed so hard. The funniest human I've ever met.
Love ya Clown

Bob, you made the world a better place.
You are still remembered with more affection and respect than you can imagine.
Hope to see you again....
Flippo, you practically raised my little sister and me! We were Latch-Key Kids and you were our afternoon entertainment. You delighted us 'til one of the parents came home. I have fond memories of you, Flippo. Thanks for being there for me! God bless you!
I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER YOU ! I WOULD SIT AND WATCH YOU ON THE AIR, AND YOU BROUGHT LAUGHTER TO THE WORLD. YOU WILL MISSED, BUT WELL-KNOWN AS FLIPPO..
remember you well always enjoyed your show you capt kangaroo lucys toy shop but you were my favorite miss you flippo
RIP Flippo. You brought much joy to my life. In the third grade, I was on your show, donating monies collected from my fellow Groveport Elementary 3rd graders for the Heart Fund. You asked me in the interview how I came to have money to donate; I explained that my mother paid me a nickel to practice the piano. Not missing a beat, you replied that your uncle used to pay you a quarter NOT to play the saxaphone! :) And I still remember that witty reparte nearly 47 years later. Thank you for a life well lived.
I loved the days without worry and being a kid - my brother James (Jason) Abdon, would fight over what to watch - it seemed to alternate between Flippo and the Mouseketeers - when he was into flippo - I wasn't as much and vice versa - but, we both loved him and the show was just so unique - he was great with kids, showed real compassion - I am now 53 yrs old, my older brother is 56 yrs. old. Will always be in our memories. God Bless!!
FLIPPO was an icon to those of us who grew up during his reign. Our own children would be blessed if we still had him in our lives today!
Time to bring out the re-runs.
My sincere condolences to Mr. Fishman and his family.
He (and his alter ego Flippo) brought me a lot of laughs and joy as a kid.
He was a huge part of my childhood, along with Lucy's Toyshop and Capt. Kangaroo. The three of them seem to be a hallmark of growing up in Central Ohio.
Hey hey, this is Frank Cromer, Da Clown's Right Hand Man, and I want to tell you that if you just got the BAD NEWS, I want you to change yer mindset, FLIPPO LIVES! (he's just changin' coils) So leave yer sweet memories and enjoy flippotheclown.com for your official flippo site... there are plenty of FLIPPO TV SHOWS to come on Cowtown, er, Columbus TV. Love ya, keep smilin' and don't fight! (or so says the grrreat Clown in the Sky!)
Watching Flippo on TV after school with my MOM is one of my favorite childhood memories. My love and appreciation for old movies is thanks to you. We were all so lucky to have you in our lives when we were growing up. Thank you Flippo. You are missed. My deepest sympathy to your family.
Farewell, Flip. Thanks for many, many laughs in my childhood days.
As you used to say when introducing a cartoon, "One, two, three, whoop, BOING!"
I like so many others grew up with Flippo. He was the "show" although the segments of the Little Rascals served as a pacifier while he was not on the air. I once saw him act on a live episode of "Traffic Court" but he couldn't fool me..I knew by the voice that that person didn't really have a speeding ticket. It was none other than the "King of the Clowns." As I grew older I picked up on some of his double meanings and learned to appreciate his humor even more. I sent him an email recently, asking him whatever happened to the sign "I Goofed" that he so prominately displayed on his set. I then just recently heard of his passing. I will truly miss him but, thanks Flippo, for the memories.
I grew up beleiving that "Flippo" was the only clown in the whole world. I am 58 now and will always remember when he came to our elementary school in Columbus, West Mound St, elementary. There will always be a warm spot in my heart for "The King of Clowns". God bless.
I was born and raised in Columbus. Graduated from West. Spent many many years listening to Flippo. To this day, my mother will reference a joke I tell her as a 'Flippo Joke' You will be missed. My prayers from Iraq.
My prayers go out to your entire family, friends and the million of viewers who enjoyed his programs. Recently I read a scripture that says that God is near to those that are broken at heart and those who are crushed in spirit he saves (Psalms 34:18). I was so comforted by the scripture and I hope you are too. My prayer is that you can find comfort in this time of great grief.
My deepest condolences. I used to work in a jewelry store in Heath, OH and Mr. Fishman "Flippo", would stroll right in, and he would stay, untill everyone in the store had a hugh smile on his or her face. For someone whom I barely knew, I will always love and admire him. Gods blessings be with you.
I couldn't wait to get home to watch the flippo show. If you had a bad day he made it better. He will be deeply missed. I will always remember FLIPPO, the KING of the clowns.
Blessings to the family of Marvin(Flippo)Fishman. Flippo, you were a huge part of many baby boomers lifes even if it was a few hours, Monday through Friday. I especially like the shows with Dan Imel. My dad would laugh the whole time.
With the passing of Lucy of Lucy's Toy Shop and now the great "Flippo", I guess we baby boomers are now officially grown up. Thanks for great memories.
I floor directed Flippo's show from late 1971 to about August of '73. It was one of the best experiences of my life. I just sent for one of the DVD's of the show. I can't believe he's gone.
Flippo was the one and only, undisputed King of Clowns. Why local television has become a thing of the past, I will never understand. Flippo was funny, cool, hip and a friend to all kids that grew up in Central Ohio. We will miss you Flippo/Bob Marvin/Marvin Fishman. God bless!
Growing up I loved the Flippo Show especially when it was Gene Autry night!
He touched so many lives and now he can keep Heaven in laughter for eternity.
I, too, enjoyed watching Flippo every day. He will always be one of the fondest memories of my childhood. He would always cheer me up when I had a rough day in school.
Rest in Peace, Flippo
Columbus and television has lost a truly unique person. I'll always
remember watching the Early Show and
Flippo's earlier programs as a kid.
Central Ohio has lost an icon with the passing of Bob marvin. I nor my husband never missed his show while growing up. I remember seeing him at Big Bear(Graceland Shopping Center)many times and the humor and wit was always a part of him. Our condolences to Bob's family and friends. Columbus will never be the same without his smile and voice. Flippo..until we meet again"Keep them laughing"!
He was trully a legend I was on his show 3 diffrent times as a kid growing up and will never forget watching him at home everyday May he always keep God laughing
I could not wait to get home from school every day to watch the Early Show. Flippo was my favorite and if I was "grounded", my punishment was not being able to watch Flippo.
He always made us laugh....he was an original, talented and wonderful entertainer! He will be missed!
Bob will be missed by our entire family (especially by my dad and mom Tom & Marge Enright)! He was one of a kind and gave us some great memories. God Bless! Sincere sympathy to Bob's kids and grandkids.
I grew up in Columbus in the 50's and 60's. My late father, Dick Anderson, and I loved watching Flippo just before supper. My dad was always impressed with Flippo's wit, his laugh, and that perfect comic timing. His genuine love of people and his humility never failed to guide his entertainment. He was able to entertain adults and children at the same time. We especially loved the music he brought us at the beginning of The Early Show (one piece he played often was "Lisbon Antigua," my dad's favorite. I met him once at Columbus Gymnastics Academy when there with my small son, Chris. I heard that unmistakable voice before I saw him and it brought back so many memories. He said, "Gee, what did I say? How did you know it was me?" I said, "How could anyone not know that voice? We appreciate you so much!" We all loved him and feel like a part of his family. Our heartfelt condolences to his children at this time.
I never 'outgrew' Flippo!! I loved his show from the first time I saw it. In later years, my son also loved Flippo. We even got to meet and talk to him one year at the Ohio State Fair. He gave my son a t-shirt with Flippo's picture on it. My son was about 6-7. I still have the shirt. There was never or ever will be another clown like Flippo! He was the best!! I send my love and prayers to his family and friends. God bless.
I enjoyed him very much when I was a child and even when I got older. He brought many smiles to the young and old.
Though I knew him as "Flppo" I best knew him as "Bouncin' Bob Marvin" when he played and sang with Chuck Selby's Orchestra at the old Seneca Hotel. Bob's own band played at the Club Gloria for a couple of "girl dancers" Ginger & Margie during the 1950's. An all around entertainer. He did it all.
Marveen, I'm really sorry to hear about your father, I would watch him on TV I wish they would show reruns of his show so my kids could watch it. I know they would get a kick out of it. I hope you remember me, I'vnt seen you in about 21 yrs. I would like to see you sometime.Like I said I'm sorry to hear about your father. BENITA CHILDERS (BISHOP) GREG'S SISTER. Your family is in my prayers.
Dear Columbus Ohio
It is sad to think that there are so many famlies/children out there that don't have a flippo to come home to at night. Flippo was an inspriations to us all. My children and my husband adored Flippo. Flippo after retiring from the T.V. would sometimes be seen at the UA MCL cafeteria and my husband would see Flippo often and we have many autographs of his.
God Bless you all for being part of his life, we are.
The Boggs Family
Barry and Debbie
Sorry to hear of the passing of your dad. He will always be "Uncle Bob" to me. It so nice of him to come to my dad's funeral last August. Maybe he and Howard "Rookie" are together again, drinking and laughing.
I worked with Flippo at WBNS-TV. Drove him on occasional gigs as Merchandising Director of the Station. One day we parked my big old green DeSoto in a downtown Columbus garage, and the attendent roared down the ramp, sped out onto Capital Street and sideswiped a car. The garage tried to pin the accident on "bad brakes". Their worst "break" was that "Flippo" was my witness in Court. I looked at the Judge grin as Bob took the stand and knew we'd won the case before it was even heard. Funny, talented, warm, sensitive Bob Marvin, you will be missed greatly by us all. Thanks for the ride.
Flippo meant different things to different people. My memory is one of security. When I was 8 years old. After my parents divorced, on visitiation weekends I would go to my dad's house to visit. While traveling from one house to the other, we would pass Flippo's studio. My Dad would say "There's Flippo's house. That always made me feel safe with the new surroundings. Some people are blessed enough to leave a footprint in the sand. Thanks
As a kid growing up in Westerville in the 60's, coming home from school every day and watching The Early Show was part of my routine!! He was someone you could count on being there every day! He was like friend and family!! A Central Ohio icon for 20+ years, and I thank him for all the hours of laughter and entertainment he provided. We were lucky to have been able to enjoy him all those years. (for anyone else needing a fix, like me, of pictures & more info on him him, I found a great website, www.flippotheclown.com)
When the spotlights fade and the cameras stop watching you are left with only the impressions you enstill in others...My memories of Flippo will live on forever as a man who could laugh with the world and always at his own life...this world can always use more clowns instead of so many frowns...let the heavens roll with laughter send in the clown....I'll miss you..
Flippo...you WILL be missed by many!! I grew up in Columbus Ohio and couldn't wait everyday until 4 o'clock so my brothers and sisters and i could watch Flippo! I met him 3 times when he used to do the big shows at Vet's Memorial, along with Lucy and Friends! I know he will be making everyone in Heaven laugh, just as he did the thousands and thousands of kids who watchd him!!
Our thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort.
You inspired so many of us to pursue our dreams and some of us had dreams of bringing laughter to others just as you always have. Down The Road
Flippo will always live with us in our hearts. A good man, his life is a testimony for all of us.
He was always God's King of the Clowns
Thanks for the memories Marv (Flippo). He was one in a million.
There will never be a local entertainer that touched as many lives as you did. Flippo will be missed by all.
Flippo, the most colorfull celebrity that Columbus has ever seen on black and white TV. Those were the true good old days.
Rest in Peace, you were an asset to your profesion and a great performer.
My condolences to Flippo's family. He gave us many good memories and he will be greatly missed. My sisters and I grew up with Flippo--to me his death is like losing family. After reading some of the memories in the guest book, I recall kids sending in drawings of Flippo and pennies being taped to them for charity; laughing at his singing of "fight the girls across the street..."; and the anticipation of just getting to see him on tv.I am thankful for my sister and I being able to finally meet him at the appreciation night at the Ohio Historical Society and getting to hear his friends speak of working with Flippo. Flippo was a blessing to us all!
Flippo - we will never forget "Whoop Boing". You were such a friend to all - even through that big glass tube - you made us all feel like a friend. You will be sorely missed. Kindest Regards,
We grew up with Flippo and he was a very big part of our lives. He was a great person and entertainer. We will never forget him and he will always be in our hearts. Please accept our deepest sympathies. Dale F. Longfellow & Rickie K. Bennett Longfellow
Marvin you are missed by all kids rest in peace.
What a precious, Loveable man he must have been. Especially to provide clean, wholesome entertainment suitable for children to watch and give them good values.
He will be missed indeed!
May he enjoy jammin' with the best big bands in Heaven!
I USED TO WATCH U EVERYDAY . I WAS LUCKY MAY FATHER WORKED FOR WBNS AND HE USED TO TAKE ME ON YOUR SET.I WILL MISS U FLIPPO YOUR THE BEST CLOWN EVERY AND GOOD FRIEND.
Our prayers are with your family. Mr. Fishman brought much happiness into my life and the lives of others. I still have the piggy bank he gave me at the Big Bear in Graceland Shopping Center.
Flippo, I mourn your loss. As I approach age 58, I recall being as young as third grade and coming home from school to watch your delightful personage on our old black-and-white TV. You entertained me and taught me about gentle humor and being a friend. If I ever felt lonely and out of balance, you were my friend, even though you didn't know it. Bless your gift to us all. Now rest in peace.
The last snortenfornorton is gone. Hail to the King.
I don't care how old I am now, when I think of Flippo I'll always be 8yrs.old.What a great guy he was.Being an entertainer in Columbus and always thinking of the kids is what it was and still is about. Thanks Flippo, thanks for letting me be one of your kids. The best to your family.God surely will laugh forever.I will never forget the talks we had.
A huge thanks to the family for sharing Flippo with us. He's the Red Skelton of Columbus. He's the Emmett Kelly of Ohio. His subtleties in humor are akin to the double entendres' of Walt Kelly in Pogo. "Bob" had a way of entertaining persons of all ages and walks of life in all he did.
Oh, how sad. Growing up he was part of my life. I looked forward to his show when I got home from school. I also had the opportunity to appear on his show many times and each visit I made was so very special to me. I will miss him.
Flippo will always be in our thoughts and hearts. Everytime I would see him in a restaurant or club he would always autograph a napkin for me. I will cherish these forever. He always drove that BMW Isetta. The only other person I knew who owned one was the football coach at Lancater High in 1965. Rest in peace clown.
I will never forget the time my father told me what time to be home from a friends house. I was late and said I could'nt tell time.
Dad said,"You know what time Flippo
comes on!" God Bless your family.
I also grew up with Flippo along with my siblings and oh how we loved Flippo. I remember being on stage with him at Southwood Elementary School when I was about 5 or 6 and I was so excited. Flippo was at the Ohio State Fair one year when we were back in Columbus visiting and I took my kids to see him as I wanted them to know who Flippo was. I am sure there is laughter today in heaven. He was an icon and will be missed. I will always have fond memories of Flippo the Clown.
Flippo always gave so much to so many. I'm glad that I had the opportunity to know and work with him. Those memories will always be there! He was a pioneer in the "fun days of television"! One of a kind!!
Thank you for some of the best childhood memories I have. Coming home and having you on TV after school was the best. You were the "King of Clowns".
Flippo was the greatest clown and a super guy. You will be missed by so many of your fans.
My sympathy to the family of Flippo.
Your spirit will live on in all our lifes.
God loves you and so do we.
Thank you for making my heart happy so many times as I was growing up and thank you for all the wonderful memories Flippo. Can't wait to see you again! God Bless you and your family
I remember racing home from school each day to watch Flippo and whatever movie he was showing - it really didn't matter. What a loss for Columbus and all who grew up with his laughter. My prayers are with his family.
You touched so many children's lives, including my own. You made such an impression on me growing up. I loved to laugh with you and watch you every night. You were a big influence on my life. Thank you for making my childhood so wonderful. God Bless you and your family. Thank you so very much for the good times and so much laughter. You are now part of the "Big Top".
I grew up watching Flippo. He brought such joy and laughter into my life as a child. My heart is sad today reading of his passing.
I, too, am saddened to hear of Marvin Fishman's death. I grew up on the east side of Columbus and always loved Flippo the Clown. I welcomed his "Borscht-Belt" humor as a refreshing addition to the often mundane cultural life of Central Ohio. My condolences to his family...
In our complex, commercial society Flippo dared to follow his own muse. He could have continued down the path of Optometry School and had a secure professional life but chose instead to follow his heart, and we all enriched by his courageous choice. He clearly had a positive impact on generations of children and adults alike. I believe his work was uniquely inspired and extremely meaningful. It's easy for some to be dismissive of the role that entertainers play – clowns and comics in particular – but Marvin Fishman clearly was a disciplined, devoted practioner of his craft. I never had the good fortune to hear him play music, but I know that he brought to his comic work all the components of a great musical performance; split-second timing, improvisational prowess, confident delivery, plus the ability to communicate directly and memorably with an audience.
To me, Flippo the Clown is one of a handful of unique Ohio broadcasting talents, along with Oscar Treadwell and Fritz Peerenboom, who brought a spark of worldliness and joy to life in the midwest. And he was funny as hell!
I hereby plead with those who have access to any documentation of his work to make it available online to his many fans!
Last Saturday my friends and I were talking about Flippo and what was his real name.Unfortunatly it was verified the next day in the Dispatch. What a total schock.Although I didn't know him personally,as a kid he was a friend that was welcomed in our livingroom five days a week. You didn't just watch the Flippo show it was something you felt part of because being a local show you could go see him at the fair,be on his show, and hear things that related to your community, something that is lacking in television today. He never talked down to kids, but made us feel important.I remember that some friends and I made some money for a charity the show sponsered and sent it in.It was by no means a vast sum,but Flippo acctually took the time on air to thank us and to a kid that means a lot.Deepest sympathy to all his family and friends. He was one of a kind.
Thank you Fishman family for sharing Flippo with us. Our lives are richer by having the opportunity to grow up with such a caring, loving entertainer. He was such a big part of our lives. I will miss you 'Flippo the Clown'.
I'll always be a "boinger" in my heart. What a great musician too.
Thanks Flippo You will be greatly missed.
My thoughts and prayers are with you. Memories of you has given me much comfort. Your gift of Laughter has healed many. Thank you, for being you!
My deepest condolences to "Flippo's", family. I was born in 1963 and loved Flippo and Lucy's Toy Shop. One day last year I was with an older couple from Powell, and we had just left Villa Nova and spotted, "Flippo's", red car. (license plate). Had I known he was in there, I would of talked with him. The staff later told me he liked to eat there at 1PM. I was hoping this year I would of had the chance to meet him. He made my younger days happy after school. Thanks for your talent and joy for all the children you made happy. I will keep his family in my prayers.
I LIVE IN NEVADA AND WHEN HAVING CONVERSATIONS WITH FRIENDS ABOUT TV IN THE 60'S I WOULD ALWAYS MENTION FLIPPO THE CLOWN, LUCY IN THE MORNING AND FLIPPO AFTER SCHOOL.
MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS GO OUT TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS.
REST IN PEACE FLIPPO
I feel as though I've lost a family member. I will turn 48 yrs.old on June 18th. I grew up in a disfunctional home. But I always always found happiness with Flippo The Clown! Thank you Mr.Fishman for bringing laughter and happiness to my life. If it hadn't been for you, Lucy's Toyshop and Caption Kangaroo I don't know how I would have turned out. I will miss you and may you rest in peace. Now you can entertain the angels. smile
It is sad to lose someone who meant so much to you growing up. It is sad that kids today don't have the icons like Flippo. he will be missed. my sympathy to his family
Thank you for sharing your father with us for so many years. He will certainly be missed.
Sorry to hear about the death of Flippo..he was someone I felt I grew up with and he taught me the word "hamingers". A great guy and truly the king of the klowns! Long live the King!
you were the of the best, thank you. mike parrett age 56
Sorry to hear about the loss of flippo, I as a kid loved to watch his show, and it put alot of smiles on kids and made them happy.
I have such fond memories of coming home from elementary school each day and watching Flippo with my younger brother. Those were much simpler times in Columbus and the larger world and we hung on Flippo's every word. The world seems much smaller to me today and I feel much older.
Rest in peace Flippo.
I have many fond memories of Flippo the clown .God bless.
Growing up I rarely missed Flippo.I liked to watch the movies he showed. There shoukld be more entertainment for children nowadays.Flippo you will be missed by many.....
I grew up watching Flippo - my dad's favorite show. I met him in Lazurus when I was in grade school - I was carrying a school band uniform. He asked me what kind of band I was in and I responded "a rubber band" He immediately responded, "they're better in the stretch". I have fond memories of Flippo and his show.
I grew up with Flippo. I couldn't wait to get home from school to watch his show. (We are talking early 60's) I remember Flippo (Marvin) performing his magic tricks at the Ohio State Fair. I was so delighted when he picked me to "assist" him. I got all wet. I remember him at South Mifflin Elementary school and he listened to me give a knock-knock joke. I am sure he had heard them all. Flippo, you will be sorely missed. My deepest sympathies to the family.
Most sincere condolences to all the Flippo Family and Friends.Often times, we don't realize how important someone was in our lives until they are gone.I truly feel loss today.
What an ICON! truly missed and NEVER forgotten! Glen Miller and Flippo-sweet music! Long live the king!
I grew up watching Flippo and enjoyed every minute of it!
My thoughts and prayers are with "Flippo's" family.
In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.
I remember as a child watching your show with my brother's an sister's . What a GREAT LOSS we have. Kids today don't realize our loss as well as his family's . You will alwys be in my thought's
We grew up watching Flippo and remember the little Isetta he drove around Columbus.
Bob, you were the light of our lives growing up. We watched all of your shows and were better for it. You had the greatest sense of humor and just made everyones day better. I know you would appreciate all the kind words being said about you, but I don't think even you knew what a big impact you made on so many lives. You would get a kick out of seeing what everyone thought about you, and how many people loved and respected you and your work. You were a kind and caring man, with a great sense of humor. Besides being "The Big Jazz Man", I know you loved your family, your music, your "Clowning Around", your large body of work, people, and just having fun. I enjoyed being in your home, babysitting for your family and working for you at your restaurant.
Rest well my friend, you will greatly missed!
My brother and I both enjoyed Flippo. Such fond memories. My condolences go out to the family.
Linda (Chakeres) Lodwick, Scottsdale, Arizona
I REMEMBER AS A KID IN THE 60'S COMING HOME FROM SCHOOL AND WATCHING THE CARTOONS AND MOVIES THAT FLIPPO WAS SHOWING.
My parents and I cried today, moms best baby sitter dies, I remember seeing him in McGuffey,Ohio in 1966
I recently had taken a photo of him, made mom and myself a print, love that clown, I visit his web site often even at age 52 I still need a FLIPPO! Don't you?
You will be missed Flippo. Play music in heaven for my parents and grandparents. They know how much I loved you as a child.
Flippo "King of the Clowns"! It seems like only yesterday those words rang out loud and clear. His smile maker spirit will live forever in our hearts. We hope you find comfort in your memories and the words of all of his fans. Thank you for sharing him with us. We love you Flip!
REMEMBER WHEN? I CAN REMEMBER AS A KID HOW MUCH I LOVED FLIPPO, I HAD TO WATCH HIM ALL THE TIME. HE WAS AND IS THE GREATEST. THIS IS ONE MEMORY I WILL NEVER FORGET.
SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS JUST REMEMBER HOW MUCH HE WAS LOVED AND ADMIRED.
Funny encounter with "Flippo"! I was sitting at Villa Nova in Clintonville just a couple of weeks ago eating and for the second or third time, my roommate and I had spotted "FLippo", eating near us. This day in particular, I was looking at a free local paper and reading an article about Bob Marvin as I was waiting on food order. My roommate, too shy to speak to him, but always pointing him out to me!-- we would always go outside after eating to check out which "Flippo" auto he was driving. On this special day, as we were exiting, I went over to Bob's table, excusing myself for interrupting and asked him for his autograph for my roommate, and realized upon this request that I didn't have a pen or paper and told Bob, and Bob, totally calm said "how about the one your reading" and then I realized with embarrassment how totally stupid I must have appeared to him. I said oh yea, the one with your picture on it and he was gracious enough to sign that paper on the picture with his own pen, "Flippo the clown". So, my roommate finally has Flippo's autograph and I have a fond memory of the Man. God Bless Bob Marvin! See ya someday
marvin (flippo the clown) fishman will truly be missed
Flippo I watch your show everyday after school I had a rough childhood and you always made me forget my problems while you were on.
I remember seeing Flippo on Channel 10 at 4pm everyday & at the Ohio State Fair. He was a great person with a great personality & I will always miss how he made me laugh. May you keep Jesus & all of the angels laughing in Heaven!! Rest in peace & God Bless you Flippo!! I will keep your family in my prayers. Still a fan at "42"!!
I was about 10 years old when Flippo started on tv, and was just about old enough to relate to his style of humor. I have good memories of his band playing at family Bar Mitzvahs, and my husband said the band played at his Bar Mitzvah. Condolences to Marvin's family.
Flippo - I mourn your passing and wish you and your family nothing but the best.
I AM 68 AND A LITTLE OLDER THAN MOST THAT REMEMBER THE 60S AND 70S. BUT I REMEMBER AND ENJOYED MANY MOMENTS ON THE TV. HE IS WALKING WITH ANGELS. REST WELL THY LABORER OF LAUGHS.
Flippo had hip before any of us kids knew waht it was. He was always a class act and man could he brighten anybody's day with that blue get-up and white pom-poms. He rides off on that great little car to play in the big band way upstairs. He was great to work with at QUBE. Keep it real baby.
Marvin Fishman(Flippo the Clown), watching you on t.v. was a must. You will be missed, and thats for sure. A Fan
in a flash i am a teenager again setting the supper table at grandmas and watching the Flippo show. The cartoons, the movies, the antics, the wonderful memories.GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.
Flippo will really be missed. I grew up with him.
Thanks Flippo............for everything
I have only great memories of Flippo the clown. Watching his show at 4:00 every day, seeing him at the Ohio State Fair. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
As a child in the 1960's my brother & I raced home after school to watch Flippo on TV. We had an added bonus because he was was friendly with our parents and came to our house to visit in his funny, little car and enjoyed the Hungarian specialties my mother would make. We laughed especially loud at his jokes. Not many people knew he used real Hungarian profanities on his show, but that was part of his shtick. He was a large part of our childhood and helped teach us what funny is all about. Flippo, we hope you are at peace and entertaining everyone in Heaven.
Oh I'm originally from Washington C.H. and I remember one year in the '60s when Luci and Flippo were the Grand Marshalls at the Christmas parade there. Talk about a kid in hog heaven - seeing live TV celebs I watched every day!
Flippo "King of the Clowns"!...the words ring out like only yesterday. The smile makers spirit still lives within all of us...his television family. Thank you all for sharing him with us.
I was born the year he started at WBNS. He was a part of my Childhood.
Remember his Car with the Door opening in the front I think it was a Iveta?
May God Hold you in the palm of his hand and watch over us.
Until we meet again.Mr Flippo
What beautiful memories I have of Flippo. After school each day we would go home and get ready to watch Flippo before supper. One memory is when I was in my 20's and living in Texas, staying up late tuning in to watch Johnny Carson, to my surprise there was Flippo guest starring. His memories will live with me forever.
I would like to entend my sympathy to the Fishman Family. He will be truly missed but thought of happily by all of us that watched him as Flippo. What a wonderful entertainer!
I love you, keep smiling, and don't fight. Words I have lived by for many years - all thanks to you.
May God bless you. With deepest sympathy to your family.
Growing up in Central Ohio in the 1960s and 1970s, one of my fondest memories was getting off of the school bus, walking into the house and turning on the Early Show with Flippo. I was introduced to his very hip brand of humor, Donnie the Duck and a guy in a clown suit playing the saxophone. I can also say that my fondness for old movies was probably carved watching the Early Show, since there a number of "classics" that aired at this time. Thank you, Flippo, for all the memories, your multi-level humor, and for being a visionary - you were one of the first that saw the future of cable television when you went to Qube.
Flippo was our number 1 clown. When we were growing up we could not wait till he came on. My parent's even took us to see him around town. Also there time when we see him in his car.We got the first picture of him and sign it. Floppo you are missed. Our prayer goes out to the family and tv10 also.
God Bless You Flippo!!! One of the best memories of growing up in Central Ohio.
My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort.
Thank you Flippo for some of the best days of my life. I loved watching you and TV and seeing you live at the Ohio State Fair. God Bless you.
Some of my happiest memories are of Flippo. He was at my dads company picnic with City National Bank in the sixties. I got to go on stage with him and still have the pictures of he and I together. Thanks Flippo.
I am very sorry for your loss. He meant alot to many people. I spent every afternoon when I got home from school watching Flippo.
"Flippo" A One of a kind, we won't see the likes of him again. Thanks for making growing up in Columbus fun and wholesome.
made are days in the 70 will be missed.
You brought much laughter to many people.
First Lucy, now Flippo. Now both of my favorite "growing up" memories are gone. Couldn't wait to get home and watch Flippo. Rest in peace, Flippo.
Thanks Flippo for all the laughs!!!! I'm sure you'll keep them in stitches in heaven!!

LOIS(WALKER)MONROE COLUMBUS OHIO
Through the eyes and ears of my wife Michele (McLaughlin) Oglesbee and her cousin Celeste (Reichert) Friedman I have come to know and appreciate the talent of Flippo, King of the Clowns. Truly there is no greater gift than that of being able to make people laugh and smile. God bless you Marvin Fishman!

I grew up watching Flippo The Clown. I have many wonderful memories. My condolences to the family.
The childhood memories came rushing back when I read the news of Flippo's death!! We'll always have a warm spot in our hearts for the man that gave a generation of central Ohioians years of quality childhood entertainment.
Bob, Thank you for all the great memories. Say Hello to my Dad.
Thank you Flippo for more laughs
than I can remember. Rest in peace.
Thank you, Flippo for bringing joy into my childhood, as soon as I got home from school - I turned the early show on. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.
I feel as if part of my childhood has been lost. I learned English watching his program in Zanesville.
God love you Flippo. You will truly be missed. I remember stopping my play time after school to watch your show. When I was in second grade you visited Linden Elementary and entertained the kids. You had that 3 wheel car too. I will truly miss you. I even enjoyed hearing your commercials. I could just go on and on. Like an earlier entry, heaven is blessed with you, Red Skelton, and Captain Kangaroo.
Flippo brought anticipation, joy and laughter to my siblings and me as children. Thank you for the memories. Sincere condolences to the family.
Flippo....my childhood would have not been the same without you! You are in the hearts of all that knew you...and will never be forgotten. Thanks for being you!
Flippo you made me laugh as a child.

Thank you Flippo for entertaining me as a child . I will forever remember you. What a great loss! I am so sorry to read of his passing . But I am so glad I had the chance to grow up in a time when life was so different and Flippo was a part of it.
Thanks Flippo for being a part of our childhood. We looked forward to seeing you and the pompoms on your clown suit. You made us laugh. "Keep Smiling".
THE WORLD IS A BETTER PLACE FOR MY CHILDHOOD BECAUSE OF FLIPPO MAY GOD BLESS YOUR FAMILY DURING THIS TIME.
I'AM SURE HE IS IS ENTERTAINING UP IN THAT CLOWN HEAVEN IN THE SKY THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR DAD WITH ALL OF THE CHILDREN IN CENTRAL OHIO FROM THE 60'S-THROUGH THE 70'S FOR ME
Thank you for all the good memories that you brought to me as a child. You will be missed. You were one of those icons that everyone of that era will remember. God Bless your family.
Old movies, slapstick comedy - heart of gold. Endless wit and energy - generous in his love. Enjoyed bragging about his kids with friends. I remember waiting for our daughter's birth as he waited for his. Proud Papa he was.
To laugh is to love. That is a legacy. Thank You to his family for sharing him.
It is with wonderful memories that we celebrate "Flippo's" life. I met his two grandsons (I believe from Colorado)at the Columbus zoo a few months ago while we were waiting in the longest of hot dog lines. I realized that his wonderful spirit was passed to these two great little guys. Our wait was a little shorter and more enjoyable because of them. My prayers are with the family and Flippo, "love ya, keep smiling and don't fight."
I'm so sorry about Mr. Fishman's passing. I have many fond memories of watching the Early Show and seeing Flippo every day after school. He made me laugh and I'll never forget him.
The spirit of "Flippo" will forever live in the hearts of all of us who, as children, never missed a day in front of the TV set after school.
May his family members find peace and God's blessings during this time.
I had the privelege of working with Mr. Fishman when I was about 12 years old as part of a music show at Grandview High School in the mid-seventies. He was very funny onstage and off and was also very humble even though he was the star of the show. His humor and his humanity were a treasure to Columbus and the world. He will be greatly missed.
My brothers and I used to love watching "Flippo" on afternoon TV as kids. Thanks for the fun and the memories! We extend our condolences to the Fishman family.
You were your childhood, you made it so easy and fun. We all rushed home to watch Flippo, and we wouldn't fight because you said we shouldn't. I hope your playing your saxophone on a cloud, I'll listen for it.
God Bless you and all you did for Central Ohio.
You were my afternoon comfort as a freshman at OSU. I was so home sick but you made in seem okay.
Thank you and god bless.
To Flippo and his family,
Thank you, Mr. Fishman, and your family, for making my childhood in the 50's and 60's in Columbus such a wonderful experience. I still sing the Flippo version of Jingle Bells every Christmas and it reminds me of care free days before I grew up. According to my wife (Columbus born and bred) I guess I am still waiting to grow up, and I think Flippo was the same way.
Let's see if I have it right...
"Jingle bells, chocolate shells, rabbit tails away, oh what fun it is to ride in a four door Chevrolet."
Thank you, Flippo, for some great memories! May you join Glenn Miller's Heavenly Band when St. Peter greets you.
Still a Flippo Fan at 55!
My grown up children and I have been fans forever! You let us all be kids, through hard times and good ones, and we thank your family for sharing you with ours. You knew that laughter is a form of love. You will be missed.
I was born in Columbus and spent my childhood there. Flippo the Clown was what I always watched on TV. Thanks Flippo for being a part of my life and God bless you.
I am saddened by the loss of a one-of-a-kind, The Clown. He meant much to me while I was at WBNS-TV. His audience thought I had to be a part of his real family for putting up with all the "grief" he gave me on the air. We were not related...it was just some more of his "shtick" to make each day of The Early Show work. Not just anyone could do that kind of a show and make it work. Flippo did!
Goodbye Flippo. You brought laughter into my childhood and gave me happy memories for my adulthood. My sincere condolences to all your family and friends.
When my childhood TV friend, Flippo, became an adult friend, Bob Marvin, I was honored to play jazz drums with him on many occasions. We will all miss you, Bob, in our own sweet ways until we're all together, "One more time!"
May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
Oh my! I am so saddened by this news! I watched Marvin as Flippo religiously and enjoyed it emensely. I must tell you a funny story. When I had my wisdom teeth removed as a woman in my early twenties my face swelled so large that I couldn't get the shirt off that I wore to the surgery. I remember watching Flippo that day and he made me laugh so hard that I thought all my stitches would burst. I've remembered that all these years (as well as my sisters) and when I've always felt down and out, I remember Flippo driving around in his little car and entertaining me and making me laugh.
God Bless Marvin/Flippo and his friends and family. He will be sorely missed.
May God bless and comfort your family. You were truly a blessing to my childhood and my children's childhood. You, Red Skelton, Captain Kangaroo; what a shame we are running out of good guys! You will be missed by us all!
Flippo, you were part of our lives and you embodied everything good about middle America. Thanks, old friend.
I feel like I lost a part of my childhood,Flippo U will always live on in our minds & in our hearts! U were truly the King of Clowns & Columbus icon. To the family my thoughts & prayers are W/U
There will always be great memeories that will never fade away. Now he will be laughing from above. God bless you and your family...
Heaven is a funnier place today.
Thanks Flippo !
Thank you Flippo for entertaining me as a child and finally "getting" it as an adult. I will forever remember Flippo. They must need a funny, kind, talented Flippo in heaven, make 'em laugh Flippo, make 'em laugh
What a great loss! I am so sorry to read of the passing of Flippo, but I am so glad I had the chance to grow up in time when life was simpler and he provided a tremendous value for many kids. Thanks for sharing your dad with the rest of the world.
My condolences to the family of Marvin Fishman. Flippo provided great wholesome entertainment for our community.
I remember when Flippo would come to my fathers company picnics and do magic tricks for us kids.I loved Flippo. I would always rush home from school to watch him on tv. I have a lot of fond memories of him.
I am so saddened by Bob's passing. He was such a part of my husbands and my childhood and it feels as though another part of my younger years is now gone. I used to see him at Big Bear(Graceland Shopping Center)at times and he was always smiling. His wit, humor and love for all will certainly be missed. Many memories..many laughs and fond rememberance are now a part of his legacy. We have lost a huge part of Columbus history and until we meet again, keep them laughing Flippo!
We watched Flippo on tv for many years. He was a very important part of our lives as we grew up. He was a great man and a legacy!
May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
College kids crowded the T V Sets in the Ohio Union to see him.
MANY FOND MEMORIES OF THE CLOWN I GREW UP WITH. HE WAS COMFORT FOOD.
GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTON.
All of us who remember his laughter ,his jokes and having a show that we could watch after school we will always have alot of fond memories. Our prayers are with the family.
The world is much more than a little-bit-emptier for its loss of the indisputable King of the Clowns. May God rest and keep his spirit and bless his family with the happiness he bestowed upon the children (of all ages) of his kingdom. Whoop...boing!!! Goodbye, Flippo...
Flippo was an institution, a 'must see' after school.
Thanks for the memories.
We will miss you Flippo. You were such a gift to our childhood.
Whoop Boing will never die.
Tom & Janet Taylor
Flippo was our afterschool treat; so great a part of my own growing up. I was on his show with my Bluebird group in the 1960s. Now, cartoons are over, the clown is gone... WOOOOP-BOING!
God grant him eternal rest. Amen.
WE ARE ALL BETTER THANKS TO FLIPPO'S HUMOR, KINDNESS, AND MUSIC
YOU COULDN'T BE SAD AFTER BEING WITH HIM ONLY THE JOY OF A FULL LIFE.
We will miss you Bob. You were a long time friend of our family and an unforgettable character. Hope you are with Glenn Miller now telling old band stories.

Marcy Kirchner English
I am one of many members of a generation who grew up watching the Early Show after school every day and are very sad today. It is ironic to me that Flippo died on my mothers birthday. My sincere condolances.
I'm very saddened by the passing of Bob Fishman. As a pre-teen becoming a youngman, I truly enjoyed his humor and really enjoyed watching the movies with my mom. We both enjoyed our time with Flippo! Stuart
As many baby boomers did I too ran home from school to watch Flippo. His smile is forever etched into my memory and even though I didn't know him personally I felt like I did. My heart goes out to his family during this difficult time cause know he will be sadly missed.
I loved watching Flippo as a kid was great family show.and what a joy it was when my husband and I met him at the fair.what a wonderful person.my sympathy to his family .a fan
"Flippo" made my childhood happy and as an adult remained a joy to my son and my family....He was always friendly and was kind enough to "break bread" with the Strokers Rod 'n' Custom Assn. at the indoor car shows at the Ohio State Fairgrounds....Marvin will be missed but never forgotten....Thank you for sharing him with all of America....Lynn Gulley, TJ Tomlin & Strokers Rod 'n' Custom Assn.
My childhood memories of Marvin Fishman as Flippo will always be with me - he will be missed by family and friends I'm sure. I was living in Gahanna in the 60's.
I was so shocked to hear that "Flippo the Clown" had passed away over the weekend. He brought hours of laughter and learning into our lives when we were younger. His 3 wheeled car and his uncanny wit, & comedic nature was unbelievable. I loved his westerns with Randolph Scott who Flippo would say: "Hotsie Totsie it's Randolph Scottsie"! My wife liked it when he did commercials for Bosco. He would say after you stir your milk and Bosco you throw away the spoon, no you lick it! I'm glad my sons got to meet him (Bay's IGA Lithopolis) and see him on TV even if it was for only a year. They two loved him. God Bless and watch over the entire Fishman family during this time of sorrow. Flippo and your family are in our prayers. God Bless Marvin Fishman, aka. Bob Marvin, Flippo the Clown. I hope Glenn Miller saved him a chair in his band. Thank you for the memories Flippo.
Mr. Fishman, "Flippo" will always be remembered as the one who "took care of us" after school until our mother got home from work. My siblings and I watched his show every day. May he rest in Peace.
Flippo was the only clown show I watched. He was the Best and great with kids. Flippo was loved more than anyone will ever know. Thanks for helping so many kids grow up. My sympathy to your family.
So many times when we get to talking about old movies or cartoons, like Popeye, the name Flippo comes up. "Oh yeah, I remember seeing that movie on Flippo!" And then the thrill of having Flippo show up at our pool in 1962 when we got our swim lesson patches! A sad time today but many happy memories. What a wonderful legacy! God bless you.
My earliest TV memories are of Flippo the Clown. Growing up I never missed a show. Then when I got to Ohio State, there he was again on TV entertaining college kids with the Early Show. What a guy!!!
I do not know if you remember me or not but we worked at Wendy's together. I am sadden by your lose and offer you and your family my prayers and condolences in this time of need. As a child your father brought me many moments. I know he did the same for you as your father. Give me a call sometime and maybe we can have lunch.

I worked with Bob on the QUBE cable show, "Flippo's Magic Circus." I live in China, and a few months ago, I tried to get into Bob's web site. The chinese government had it blocked! I thought Bob would find this hysterical.

Thanks for all the years.
I'll always remember the seven fun years working with Flippo at QUBE. Columbus has lost a true television legend and a wonderful entertainer. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, and also to his greater family of friends and fans.
Watching Flippo on TV after school was one of my favorite childhood memories of the Sixties. I had the pleasure of meeting Marvin in 1969 at the WBNS-10 studios while waiting to go on the air for "In The Know", a high school quiz bowl show; I had the pleasure of chatting with him again this past year at a photo signing. He was still a gentleman and a jokester. Rest in peace, Flippo.
I will always have fond childhood memories of racing home after school to watch "Flippo" the clown. What a wonderful program the children of Columbus had back then! I send my sincere sympathy to his family. Terrie Fulk
My old TV pal is gone.My heart is filled with saddness with the passing of Mr. Fishman but my mind is filled with many happy memories of Flippo The King Of The Clowns. My condolances to his family.
