Mary Jo was a friend, as well as our attorney, and we were stunned today to receive the letter from her cousin, telling us about her death. Not being residents of Columbus, we did not see the obituary in the Dispatch. Mary Jo was a long-time friend of my late aunt, Alice Cave, and became a friend to us during Aunt Alice's later years. Our memories of her are rich and delightful, going back to the 1990's. She will be greatly missed but remembered with love and friendship.

Mary Jo lived life well and showed us by her example how finding the positive in most situations works so much better than the alternative. I served on the National Board Of Trial Advocacy with her when she became the organization's first woman president. She did an excellent job and really moved the organization forward during her administration.

Mary Jo was a trailblazing woman who dedicated her life to the law, civic responsibility, her Catholic faith and community. She set an example for all. May she rest in peace.

Mary Jo was one of those rare individuals who was able to put concern for her friends and her own community ahead of personal interests.
All who knew her have seen examples of her selfless efforts for others.

She gave so much of herself to her beloved community, and it is sad that many do not fully appreciate the value of such a community treasure, until they have lost it.

We will miss her so much, but we are all richer for what she has added to our lives.

Mary Jo was a good friend and a wonderful mentor. As the first woman and youngest mayor elected to represent my village, she provided me with encouragement, advice and amusing stories refelecting her many years of public service. She left the world and her community a better place and will be sorely missed.
